I don't like using the MacBook air, it doesn't have the retina display and the speaker sounds like it is muffled

Right, see I always use external speakers or headphones when I want to indulge in music. The rMBP's speaker may be better than the MBA's, but they are still laptop speakers. If you get a less expensive laptop, you could spend the saved money on proper speakers or headphones, which will allow you to truly savour your music. :)

Your current MBP doesn't have a retina display. Most laptops don't.

Is it necessary for what you're doing?

If you're on a budget, you'll either have to wait until you can afford it, or compromise and get the best you can afford, as long as it will do what you need to.

My first portable Mac wasn't a Mac at all. It was a cheap arsed PC laptop that I had hackintoshed. I ended up putting Windows back on it as it wasn't any good as a hack book. I wanted a top of the range 15" MBP, but couldn't afford it, by 2009 I could afford a white macbook, and it would suit my needs, so that's what I got. I still have it as a backup.

I found this one, but it shipping, it's a 15 MacBook pro 2.3ghz and 16ram and 1tb for 1200, it sound to good to be true.

The email I got said

"It has Mac Office 2011.
I live in Lethbridge, AB and I've listed the laptop in the Ontario
area because I know it will get better visibility here.
If you are a serious buyer, I'm willing to send it via FedEx Priority
Overnight( next day delivery, shipping fees included in the price)
with the added option of inspecting the laptop before sending payment.
I will mail all the details if you are still interested."

Then I asked for details

He responded

I'll send the laptop first via FedEx Next-Day option, contact 3V(which
will be used as secure payment system) and they send you an invoice
confirming our transaction.
According to 3V policy, while the laptop is still in delivery transit,
you must prove that you have the money ready to make the purchase by
buying 3V vouchers and email them to 3V.
Once you have sent the vouchers, you will receive an email
confirmation along with the tracking number to check the status of
your shipment.
After you receive the laptop, you can check it out/test it and if you
decide to keep it, you send me the 3V vouchers as payment.
If not, you can ask for a full refund from 3V.
If you decide to make the purchase I'll need your full name, phone
number and delivery address.

I would back out but he said

I think that, when it comes to shipping, trust is very important and I
am willing to send you a copy of my driver's license so you can verify
my identity.

What do you guys think?

Reads like a scam to me. He contradicts himself several times. I would steer clear.

I think your best bet is to check the Apple refurbished store every day. You will be protected money wise and warranty wise with Apple.

I've seen these scams on Craigslist before, they usually involve a '3rd party' (3V in your case) which is actually in cohoots with the scammer because they will refuse to return your money when it comes time for you to demand a refund (and you will, because that laptop will never come).

NEVER, ever pay for a laptop in this way sight unseen.

Has any one bought a used macbook before?

Yes, the MacBook in my sig is in fact a used model which I got for $1600. It didn't have AppleCare and its screen has some faint scratches but everything else about it was 100% fine.

Has any one bought a used macbook before?

Whilst I haven't bought one on the second-hand market, I have sold 2 Macbooks before. I'm incredibly careful with my machines, not only because I want my stuff to remain pristine for my own sake, but also in order to keep the resale value in a lucrative realm. I'm sure many other users have it the same way and there are plenty of secondhand gems waiting to be discovered. Just stay local and don't transfer money for something you have never seen. :)

Thanks for the advice

I've found two used retina MacBook pros which one should I go for

First one got is This is the 2012 model 15 inch macbook pro with retina as well as 16gb ram and 500 gb SSD. It is in great condition and comes with the charger and the box. This also has applecare on it until summer 2015 also 2.7ghz

For 1400 maybe talk him down

Second is this

Processor: 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 Turbo Boost up to 3.7 GHz
Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Storage: 512 GB PCle-based flash storage

For 1550 already talk him down

I believe its a late 2013, but no box

What do you think, like the 2012 but it's already second hand and it doesn't have haswall but it's got Apple care and 103 cycles

Like the late 2013 but it's got like 200 cycles, no Applecare, and no box, but it's got the haswall

Which one would you go for?

Which one would you go for?

2.7GHz are only mid-2012 (2.3, 2.6 or 2.7GHz) or early-2013 (2.4, 2.7 and 2.8GHz).

For late-2013, there's only 2.3GHz and 2.6GHz

So I think you got it wrong, it's actually a 2.6GHz late-2013 with PCIe. Does it have a dGPU?

For future proofing's sake, the late-2013 would be far better, considering that it's got PCIe storage and that screen retention problems are largely nonexistent.

Has any one bought a used macbook before?

Yes, I purchased my MBP 13 inch late 2011 model (built early 2012) when it was about a year old. This was from the Trademe web site in New Zealand. The seller had a good selling reputation/buyer feedback and he allowed me to pick it up from his shop and I paid him then.

Near perfect condition.

But when some of these deals sound too good to be true, they probably are.

I bought two off of this forum.
No complaints at all.

I also bought a broken MBP via Craigslist and I met the guy in person so I could check it out for myself.
