You're fooling yourself. That was ridiculously awkward.

You're right, I wasn't able to do any of the things in the video in one take with no trouble. I certainly don't use it all the time with one hand and not even worry about it. I'm completely delusional. Thanks for the heads up!

You didn't do any of them well.

Cmon man, we get it... you used the phone with 1 hand. But you're not going to be doing it often. You can tell by the effort it takes to use that thing with one hand.
If anything this video has convinced me to go for a 6 rather than a 6+

Completely agree with the gym comment.
Not going to lie, I laugh inside when I see someone at the gym with a Plus. I leave it at home when I go to the gym, just does not look right in my gym shorts...
Going for a run? Forget about it...

why use it all for the gym? i still use my nano watch and bluetooth headphones. works perfectly

I use my Plus one handed a lot. I've been using two hands to type for awhile now, so that hasn't changed, but a vast majority of my usage is with one hand.

You were struggling in that video. You were juggling that phone like it was a flaming knife.

Now let's see you do it while walking down the street with your $900 phone dangling 5 feet above a concrete surface.

OP: Thanks for this. I can't believe some people are bashing you for posting an informative video that might actually be helpful to a lot of people. Yeesh.

Seems like too much of a hassle to get to the top portions of the phone. Having to double tap each time can get old quick.
I got news for you: If you want to use even the regular iPhone 6 one-handed, you're going to need to use that double-tap function to comfortably reach the top of the screen.

I originally wanted the 6+ but couldn't score one on release day, so I got the 6. After reading so many negative things about one-handed usability, and knowing that I *DID* use my iPhone 5 one-handed quite a bit, I started to think that maybe I should stick with the regular 6. The 6 still makes things less comfortable to do one-handed vs the 5 (or earlier) but the 6+ will undoubtedly make things somewhat more uncomfortable/dangerous. So I'm still mulling it over. But thanks OP for the video!

Why don't you just use your nose to press the buttons on the top quadrant? Still one-handed.:)

Hope this puts some of the questions to bed.

It sure did!

You trying to use the 6+ one-handed looked incredibly awkward to me. A couple of times, when you're shuffling your hand around just trying to do some basic functions (which are easy on normal sized phones), it looked like you were about to drop it

No way I would ever go with the 6+ after watching that video, as I have even smaller hands.

You're fooling yourself. That was ridiculously awkward.

This ^

One handed use is definitely possible. I have smaller hands but i can still use the phone one-handed. However, i still find one handed used kind of burdensome. The Plus is a much better device when used 2 handed imho. I'm starting to miss the utility of having a smaller footprint. Also finding that when i'm home I prefer my iPad Air and when I'm out and about I miss my 5S (or wish I had the 6 as that is a great form factor imo). But for some reason, I'm having trouble justifying exchanging the Plus for a 6. Just not ready to make a decision yet.

I'm in the same boat. :(

No problem! Yeah, the response here has been kind of odd. I'm not trying to change anyone's mind about which phone to get. I just wanted to get some visible evidence of what using it one handed actually looks like.

Forumers: OMG ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO USE ONE HANDED!

Other Forumers: It's not so bad, some things are difficult, but it's doable.

Forumers: YEAH RIGHT PROVE IT!

Dookie: Okay here you go! (Posts video using it one handed)

Forumers: Yeah, well... YOU LOOK REALLY UNCOMFORTABLE DOING IT LOL

Dookie: <facepalm>

I don't care what people pick honestly. I could rebut most of the arguments people are making against it here, but what's the point? In the end it all comes down to personal preference. I personally have no problem using it with one hand, though most of the time I still use two hands anyway because that's usually how I used my iPhone 5 and my iPhone 4 and my Palm Treo and every other phone I've ever had. But people can do whatever they want.

The video was just to help others thinking that that the mantra of "Cannot use iPhone 6+ one handed" was the only opinion out there. It's a counterpoint, that's all. Not trying to change anyone's mind or poo-poo anyone else's view. I hope it helped someone.

Thanks for the post and video.
I have a 6+ on order (not released yet here in Norway), I´m still on my iPhone 4 (gave the 5 to my wife)
I use my phone one handed all the time, in the car (yes I know that´s not too smart), etc.
I´m worried it will be too big, and I can see it´s doable, but it won´t be as unobtrusive as with the 4.

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend using it in the car, but I know tons more people do it than will admit to it.

OP, I want to see a video of you quick replying to a message that drops down from the top of the screen or quick marking an email as read that also drops down from the screen.

Also, accessing the Notification Center from the lock screen and also pushing the sleep button on/off but while still being able to access the Home button one handed.

;)

Good god your mits are huge
hubba hubba :p

As they say, everything is bigger in Texas.

Alternate joke: It only appears that way, I trim the hair back at the base to make them look bigger.

:D

Okay I'd better stop there.

You mean like the drop down notes from notification center? I mean, obviously it would be impossible to reach them without using the gesture, but it wasn't exactly easy to do even on the 5/5s. Generally if I saw the notification, I'd just tap on the messages or email app in the dock at the bottom and reply that way.

But yes, you've got me there, if I absolutely needed to do the quick reply to a notification drop-down it would likely be next to impossible, as would accessing the notification center itself.

As for the sleep button, I doubt anyone would be able to push the sleep button with one hand while still being able to reach the home button unless they are Andre the Giant or JJ Watt. That said, was this something you could do on the iPhone 5, or even the previous 3.5" iPhones? Honest question, I don't have my old one here in front of me so I can't test it, but it seems like it'd be a tough thing to do even on those models, especially since the sleep button is up on the top of the device.

For me, the real crux of the issue isn't "Can I do everything one-handed", but is instead, "Can I do most things one-handed?" For the most part, I'd have to say yes. It is perfectly functional to use one-handed in most every day tasks. I personally will still use two hands as often as possible because that's just always how I've used my phones since smart phones became a thing, but in a pinch, one-handed use is not a big deal.
