If you sell it, what are your plans when they bill your account for either the service or the phone?

Think of it this way:

1) You sell it
2) Buyer activates it
3) ATT shuts them down so buyer complains, ATT tells them its a missing device
4) Buyer produces reciept or proof of purchase from you
5) You go to jail for insurance/mail fraud

Just send it back bro..

Its up to you, man. Is it really stealing? Even if it were, it would be from a multi-billion dollar company that bribes politicians, lies to the public and extorts money from its customers wouldn't be a tragedy.

I ask whether it is really stealing because either way, AT&T will make money back because you'll be playing full subsidized pricing for service on their network.

Maybe this reply belongs in PRSI, but...

Has the concept of ethical behavior completely died?

You don't do the obviously right thing because of karma, or possible punishment from God (or other mythical punitive parent figure), or because you might get caught.

You do the obviously right thing BECAUSE IT IS RIGHT!

We're not talking about a gray ethical issue here - we're talking about stealing.

Just saying...

Guys, don't waste your time.
OP is full of **** and just joined today.
This is fake. Even if this was true, it's not like he's going to give it back.

something smilier has happened to me and a $10 book. Because of the hassle I just kept the book. But a $600+ iPhone should be returned

First off, where did you order the iPhone from? AT&T will only deliver via Fed Ex. I have never heard of anyone or any legetimate company shipping a 400.00 plus item through the US Postal Service.

i call fake too, since when the hell does a restaurant ask your name?

Unless you're Abe Froman :p

maybe a first name not enough enough to redeliver mail for USPS

He never mentioned them asking for his address. He said he went to the place for lunch and gave his name and they ended up saying they had a package for him. Not sure if it's true, be that's what he said.

Most of you guys that are saying to return it, my bet is that you would probably keep it yourselves if it ever happened to you..I mean who wouldn't enjoy a free iphone?;)

This guy is definitely trolling us though

Exactly! And the people against it here are acting as if they've never done anything 'wrong' in their whole life. Either way if the OP is serious about it just let him do what he wants, it's not going to affect you so why get so worked over because of it?

I've done things wrong in my life, but I would return it. Not for AT&T's benefit but rather for mine. It is an expensive device and does not legally belong to you. If your morals will allow you to keep it, more power to you but I like to think that the standards I set for myself are a lot higher.

Return it because if you signed for it they will have your signature for the phone and they will bill you for it. Do the right thing and return it and so you don't have it on your mind.

Thank you! That's the problem with a lot of Americans today. They are opportunistic thieves and that partially why prices increase at stores because of theft. I'm not perfect and I'm not saying that I've never done anything wrong. But I have never stolen anything or been an opportunistic thief. The only thing you're doing by keeping that iPhone is contributing to the problem which is theft. Stop trying to twist reality into making it seem like you're doing something right by keeping the phone. Thats what I hate about most people...they try to make lame excuses for their actions.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

Resist temptation and do what is right.

Is this fact or myth?

And why is this thread even a question, it all comes down to the person if they want to take the opportunity its not like he was intentionally planning this scheme to steal an iPhone
Some would return it and others would prefer to keep it
I think this thread is better off closed.

Good point!

OP have you thought about this?
I dont think AT&T would automatically charge you for an iPhone on the account you set it up on..they could never know who actually took it..
