xTorrent is my favorite at the moment. uTorrent would have to be pretty durn sweet for me to switch.

Well, utorrent is good for its incredibly small memory footprint and size.

But it won't have the pretty interface of xtorrent though, nor any of the other features with itunes and appletv. It does just one thing and that thing extremely well. Of course, it has all the necessary functions, such as encryption, individual file selection, automatic ratio and rate adjustment, nat, upnp etc.

And it's free.

Here's a link to the latest round of changes to v1.7 beta:

OH MY GOD. I've been waiting for this FOREVER. I know it's just a torrent program, but it's easily the best one out there.

What are peoples opinions of Vuze?

Azureus is extremely heavy (RAM, CPU). Vuze is even worst.

I've switched to Transmission, couldn't be more happy except selective file downloads and torrent creation (which should be in the next version if the nightly builds comments above are accurate).

umm yeah.. uTorret pretty much is azureus with out the huge memory foot print. On my PC used to run Azureus until I learned about uTorret.
I like Azureus when I used it. The only problem was it was a huge memory hog and was a drain on my system but it was a small price to pay for all the other things it allowed me to do. uTorret gives me all those things and a much smaller memory foot print.

Except that David Watanabe, while a brilliant UI designer for the most part, is a GNU code-stealing *******. He steals it, sells it, and then hides bug reports. I will never buy anything from him, aside from the fact that I would never pay for a torrent app to begin with.

Xtorrent is buggy, not free (wtf), and based on crappy old transmission code. It's also banned on any good tracker.

I've been a transmission fan since I new what a torrent was...

Now that it is useable on my favorite trackers and has selective downloads all other clients have been trashed.

uTorrent is nice, I will most definitely by downloading it...but Transmission will be tough to beat..IMO.

oh I can't believe what I'm reading.

utorrent blows all mac clients (except azureus) out of the water feature-wise...

and i'm not sure if I'd be so happy about utorrent coming, as it's closed source and that has been a point of slight worry for many people since ut's inception.

I'm very happy with Transmission, but I'm always on the look out for something better, so this'll be interesting if it happens.

when you get the nightly builds of transmission, is there an easy way to have this update be automatic?

i'd rather not have to do a manual downlaod everyday.

is uTorrent Seriously better than azureus? is there a way to tell?

Well, Azureus has a TON of features and settings. However, the average user (i.e. me) never has any need for them, and Azureus even suggests that most people leave most of those settings untouched for optimal downloading and seeding.

On the other hand, utorrent has fewer "features", but they're all the average user will ever need for best performance.

Vuze's RAM footprint can go into the hundreds, while utorrent starts at what..413KB? Of course, this may go up to like 10MB as you add more stuff, but almost never more than that. Supposedly utorrent makes more use of your cache though.

Speedwise, there's not much difference.

Last I heard, they lost the developer working on this (again?) and hence the project is on standby indefinitely.
