i agree...but why would they need all employees around just for an OS update that will be done via app store---there is no need to go into the store.

Employees need to be trained and brought up to speed on the features of the new OS and how to demonstrate them.

I'm confused. The quoted article says that it's a 3rd party that offers support for Apple products that is enforcing the blackout. Maybe they anticipate the upcoming ML release and need the extra staff to be on hand to support if people call with questions or whatnot?

It doesn't sound like Apple employees have a blackout, so I don't get what the big deal is.
