The last Vaja cases I purchased was way back when I had the Palm Treo's.

Always loved the smell of the leather when first opening that Vaja package from FedEx. :p

This case looks very interesting. What holds the phone into the case?

sticky stuff!!! probably like surface pad, which i thought was solid.

Looks to be much better than surface-pad which I returned. My only concern is removability.

Surface-pad was really a one-shot use. When I pulled it off it really did not look to be in reusable shape.

If this is Vaja quality it wont be removed, I hope!

I have the Vaja grip case for my iPhone 5 and it's my favorite case. Always very unique and very high quality

If the phone sticks to the back of the case can the phone be removed without any sticky residue or damage to the back of the phone?

I would assume yes. The surface pad left zero residue. It seems that Vaja is working with casemate now. Wonder how that relationship came about. But it is a good thing for Vaja to have that exposure.

It's been a long time since I purchased something from Vaja. The first time I did I think it was for a Sony PDA. They have improved their shipping methods. I ordered this new cover in black on Friday at around 3:00pm PST and it shipped the same day from the US. They used to ship even their standard cases from Argentina and it took a lot longer.

One benefit that the Surface Pad has that this doesn't is the micro fiber inside of the front flap that keeps the screen fingerprint free because it rubs against it in one's pocket. I can't really tell if this one has a similar feature.

Never did that for me. Besides, i dont want the cover rubbing the screen

Got mine. They use a rubber insert that smells awful.

No great leather smell.

Forced to return ot as they are unwilling to make right.

I'm not quite clear. You are returning the product because you don't like the smell of it?

The smell of that rubber insert has permeated into the leather and is overwhelming to me. It stinks.

Since I am sensitive to these kinds of checmical smells, I have no choice.

Besides, this is an $80 item, and its is not unreasonable to expect it to smell like a leather product.

Better than SurfacePad?

Different. No Stand.
Thin and nice leather but ruined by the odoreous packaging.

OK, if the smell isn't the issue, which one do you like better?

For me yes, I didn't care for the viewing stand of the surface pad, leather is of a much better quality and it lays flat when closed. Just wish they offered color choices for the inner lining

How about some more pictures and thoughts????

Very happy with this case, less protection than the surface pad, but That's not a concern of mine. The vaja quality leather while keeping the overall iphone form factor makes it a winner for me.
