Valve Software today announced the release of an update to Left 4 Dead that brings Mac support to the popular game, which now joins Left 4 Dead 2 on the Mac following the sequel's release earlier this month.

Valve had noted when it announced the Left 4 Dead 2 launch date that the original game was seeing a few delays but that they hoped it would be available before Halloween, a target the company met with today's release.

As a promotion coinciding with the Mac release, Valve is offering 50% discounts on several Left 4 Dead packages: single license ($9.99), four-pack ($29.99), and Left 4 Dead/Left 4 Dead 2 bundle ($14.99). As with all of Valve's other Mac releases, the Steam Play functionality allows users to purchase each game only once, yet still play them on multiple platforms.

Performance for left4dead 2 on mac isn't that great at the moment so if left4dead has better performance it might be a better option for mac users until left4dead 2 is fixed.

In boot camp I could run 1920x1200 2x antialiasing 2x antistropic filtering and vertical sync pretty smoothly, on mac os I can barley run half that resolution with all of that switched off.

Nice to see L4D for Mac

good news for all mac users, but i am questioning how well L4D plays on Mac. I know L4D runs like nightmare on my AMD Athlon II x4 + 4670 1G graphic card (around 30 fps). I runs lot better on my Phenom II x4 955 BE + 5770 1G (still around 70 fps). All iMacs doesn't equipes Radeon 5770 level or higher graphic card. I think L4D would run semi-OK macbook Pro (should be around 30+ fps, playable, but not a good experience). Overall, Mac isn't a good for gaming...

This may be changing a bit with 10.6.5, but for now, our graphics drivers are terribad.

Good news!

Great news. The fact that my PC Steam games are free on my Mac makes the move much easier!!! Thanks Valve for not making me pay twice!

What if we already purchased LFD2? Can we get the bundled discount when purchasing LFD1?

Not only am I thrilled that the Mac is getting all the games from the best developer of the last decade, but we're getting them at such incredibly generous prices. Seriously, go Valve!

Valve.. Thank you !!!
just wished apple stepped up on the game side also but thank you Valve for working hard to bring all this to the mac side.

Since TF2 release on mac, I haven't started bootcamp.. not even once ... :)

I think 10.6.5 will have some graphic surprises in it. Blizzard already showed that something is up in the next update with the massive lag issues in the WoW 4.0 update which could be caused by it partially depending on 10.6.5 but made to still run on 10.6.4.

Any one know the Specs on these? Think they would run ok on the new 13" MacBook Air? 1.86Ghz with 2Gigs RAM.

Doesn't have to be highest res and perfect, just not a slide show, $15 is affordable enough for just playing every now and then :)

on my macbook pro (mid 2010) core i5 GT 330m, i can play L4D2 with all settings maxed out including res, except AA@2x and shaders@medium. get a smooth steady 30fps which, in all honestly, you cant even feel any lag. no drops or anything.

very playable and performance is great

on l4d1 i expect it to be around (or at least close to) 60 with everything maxed out, or with same settings as above.

L4D2 is playable on my MBA 13 with the settings on low, but the fan runs and it heats up quite a bit.

Does anybody know if it is possible to use a Xbox 360 controller on a mac? I know you can do it on PC.
