This is mine... it costs $25 one time fee, nothing extra annually here in Iowa.

I've had "GALLEY" South Carolina plates since 1989. They are $15 extra per year. :)

Dang, vanity plates in Kentucky are $40 the first year but nothing extra thereafter. When you renew your plates every year you can get just the sticker or a whole new plate (not a new phrase) for no additional fee.

I have GREG 88 on the Blazer, but nothing on my Cobalt. I wanted COBALT for the Cobalt but it was taken. I considered getting CBLT LS but really didn't want to pay the extra $40 (taxes were enough).

I have had "KAZE" (the Japanese word for "wind") as a vanity plate for well over a decade now, as my cars have all been Japanese sports cars (Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo, Toyota Supra Twin Turbo, Acura NSX-T). It is on a Lexus LS 600h L at the moment, but that thing flies like the wind, as well.

Best personal plate I have seen so far is a hot twenty-something trophy wife driving a Porsche 911 with the plate "12BEATN" - "One to Be Eaten". At least she was honest about her relationship with the guy who bought it for her. :p

Number two is "W8N4SUN" - "Waiting For Sun" - which is fitting here in Seattle.

A buddy of mine has VOID PTR. A car in my parking lot has one I really like, SUDO MV.

You have to be a bit technical to get those of course :).

Personally I don't bother though - I figure vanity plates just make it easier to track me after I commit my crime :p. Nah, seriously, I just don't see the point of paying for them.

Of the license plate jokes that take a little thinking, my favorite has always been
HIJKMNO
I'm sure Noelle got a kick out of having that plate. ;)

On the subject of registration plates being potentially offensive, here in England I've seen 3 with 'KKK' on them in the last year. I hope they were not intentional, but I thought it was funny that they were ever created.

I don't like them because some irrate driver might remember you in the future when your car is parked in the parking lot and vandalize it. People are crazy. I have already had a car and motorcycle stolen in less less than 4 years. The car was recovered but had so much damage I got paid out, the motorcycle was never found.

I have a 25 year old rusty station wagon and to dress it up, I have a vanity license plate rim, my old college and on the front, the license plate rim is a football team. On my back window, I have six or seven skateboard or surfing related stickers.

But as for having a license plate that says something, nothing seems interesting enough for me to pay up and get one. It's kind of like a tattoo in that I have not found anything worth paying so much for that I have to see everyday.

I did have a license plate rim in back that had my law school, but people on the road gave me seriously dirty looks, so I took that one off and gave it away last year along with a baseball cap with said law school logo. :)

Sorry but people who have Vanity plates either do not have enough self esteem or have too much, Either way don't expect me to have much respect for you.

OK jokey ones are OK but why drive around with your name on your plates?

In Sydney you see a far worse crime. They offer rego plates in a German style so you see these charachters in their BMW's or Nissans pretending they are driving along an Autobahrn whereas they are driving on the Pacific Highway in Sydney. Believe me a far far nicer place to be. They should be really ashamed of themselves, that is inexcuseable. Why pretend to be German if you aren't ;

I totally agree with you on this one. The jokes are ok, but your name is plain stupid.

I was behind a car in my parking lot at work who had the plate "omgmove". It did make me laugh.

In California you pay extra each year for registration afaik. I think the OP needs to do some due diligence on his own within his own state to find out if the fees for personalized plates are a one-time fee or a reoccurring fee. In the meantime, there is only one thing that actually is more stupid than having your name on your plates and that is calling them "vanity" plates. No offense meant to the thin-skinned, but really? Vanity? My goodness.

I don't think they're pretending to be German. I think (possibly) they are enthusiasts of German engineering / cars / design, ect... Some of the greatest innovations in engineering / design have been German. (like it or not) My guess is this Bloke who is driving a BMW with German-style plates.... Maybe... (drumroll) He "Likes" German things???

Then again...

In Ontario plates are 4 letters then 3 numbers. I don't know how much they cost... but I want SEAN 001 (My name :p). Then I'd try and tell people, "No, it's not a vanity plate... that's what I was given!" I have a few people I can think would believe it too!

I saw a California plate ending 007 on the freeway today. It wasn't a personalized plate. It's great to get a James Bond plate just by luck.

I decided to give my personalized license plate a turn as my avatar.

I don't normally carry the plate around in my hand; I tried that, but it was rather unpleasant walking through the car wash that way. And I deny the rumor that I adopted the nickname Q because I was randomly assigned the license plate "Q". :p

My dad's is W123 JMW.

W123 - Mercedes W123. The car isn't one but he wanted one...
JMW - Initials.

Bit rubbish really. Can't remember how much he paid for it.

I don't really like private plates. Each to their own.

Prior to putting my Apple sticker on right after I bought my new VW about a year and a half ago:

I think I've seen you driving ... my one and only time ever visiting Charlotte. I could be wrong, but I swear I've seen this car/plate before.
