I noticed the same thing. I couldn't get lte signal to hold on the nexus inside my house but the iPad gives me two bars.

I swapped the Sim card from my Samsung galaxy nexus to my new iPad it gives me an error that it cannot activate cellular network am I doing something wrong how were you guys able to get it to work?

haha kind of made me wish I didn't get the iPhone 4S and got the 4G phone. Now I have till 2013 to get a 4g iphone.

I'm not sure how it works moving your sim from a phone. I used a sim from a mifi. I don't have the nexus anymore so I can't help you there sorry.

So to confirm - I could take the SIM out of my Droid RAZR and put it into my iPad? Right now I can get 10GB of data for $50 a month (it's only 5GB for $50 postpaid on the iPad). May be worth it to swap out when I want to use it.

How convenient/easy is it to swap out?

Crap, I signed up for a data plan on the iPad (prepaid) yesterday.

It works perfectly. I put in my LTE sim from galaxy nexus and works in 30 seconds. LTE signal on iPad.

U may have to restart the iPad or switch cellular on/off first.

So would I be able to use my iPhone 4s Verizon Sim on my iPad 3rd Gen's and get Unlimited 4G internet? As long as my phone is turned off while it's switched for the time type thing.

Update-
Called verizon and they said that wouldn't work(3g sim in 4g device) but could order a 4G sim card to put in a 4g device. He asked what device I just told him I don't remember the name lol. Anyways they are 2nd daying me 4G sim card but he did tell me that in order to use it on the other device I would have to call them to activate it on new device. I'll update whenever I get my iPad see if it works without calling them. Would be nice to have unlimited 4g at the expense of my iphone 4s turned off. :)

Update 2-
Doing more research on this matter it seems in one of the updates they disabled user from changing the APN in settings so in order to update the APN on the iPad you would need to use "iphone configuration utility" from there make a new profile, go to advance settings, enter the Verizon APN settings (which i'll post after this) and just insert the Sim. I think after doing so it "should" work. I'll post my sources where I found such info below as well. Hope this works when I get my Verizon iPad. I heard ATT was stopping iPhone users data plan for a month who did this. Lets hope Verizon just don't care. Unlimited 4G with Hotspot? Pfff. I'd just use google voice, spend $60 for a year of skype, use iMessage with GV for messages and put my iPhone 4s in airport mode. Technically Unlimited 4G for my iPad and iPhone 4s. :)

At any rate I hope this works.

Anyword on if this worked?

Is there any update as to if an iPhone 4S sim can be used?

For the record, I swapped Sims in my iPhone 4S and my iPad Verizon LTE. They are both the same size (Yes, they are) and it didn't work.

For the record, my iPhone 4S was replaced by Apple and I watched him insert a Verizon Sim and activate the phone. However, the phone appears to to work without the Sim.

I want to know if I can use an iPhone 4S Sim into my LTE iPad and get 4G Data. Thanks...

Not going to happen.

U need LTE sim that has ur account info to LTE sim swap. B

Can't do it with non LTE device like iPhone 4s.

I tried the following SIMs in my new Verizon iPad and both work fine:

1. Verizon full size sim, cut down to micro size, from my Verizon 4G MiFi, works great. Account is on a 2GB data plan with a 2 year contract, provided by my employer.
2. Verizon sim from my Motorola Xyboard Android tablet, works great, account is on a $30/month, 2GB data plan, no contract, month-to-month.

When I select View Account on the iPad it says "Account is already active on a subscription plan that cannot be managed on this device". So it seems that any SIM that is running an active data plan works fine.

Also the sim from my AT&T Samsung tablet works fine as well. What an awesome iPad that I can use just about any active SIM!

The iPhone 4s is not a "4G Certified" device so the sim cannot be switched into the iPad for LTE connectivity. For Verizon iPhone users, we may have to wait until iPhone 5 comes out.

So I am also like a few others here with a 4G LTE smartphone (Galaxy Nexus) and was also wondering about doing this. I was originally going to just get a wifi and tether but I'm worried that my Nexus battery won't last long when I'm tethering, which would make the tethering not terribly useful for extended periods of time (unless I'm near an outlet) .

However, it also isn't terribly convenient to be constantly swapping my sim card between my phone and my ipad (not to mention the fact that it will cost another 130 just to give myself the option)

I'm really torn... What do you all think is the most practical choice?

For you, it sounds like tethering from your phone is going to save you $130 and you may also have access to wifi more than you think, thus save battery life on your phone. I love the fast LTE on my iPad, which can be used as a wifi hotspot, so I am thinking of dropping my home internet.

Did you have to do the custom apn with iPhone configuration utility or did you just pop it in and it worked?

Really thinking about exchanging my 32GB wifi version for a 32GB LTE model now that I know this works. I have a galaxy nexus that is horrible for reception in my house. I would love to get some 4G in my house.

Yeah, it's a shame the Galaxy Nexus radio is so bad. That's another knock against tethering thru my Nexus--water-downed 4G because of my Nexus's terrible signal. Don't get me wrong, I love my nexus, but god are the radios BAD!

I did take the SIM out of my Droid Razr this morning and put it into the iPad and it worked fine.

Only issue is that the SIM slot is behind the cover I have on it, so I would have to remove it each time which is not convenient.

I wish Verizon was doing the double data promo for the iPads like they do on the phones. Right now I can go online and change my data plan for the Droid Razr to 10GB for $50. Wish the iPad would be the same!

I know the feeling. I love my nexus but I hate the radio that comes with it. 4G in and out. Stuck in 3g at times. Oh well right! Exactly what I was thinking about tethering with my nexus. One of the reasons why I got a wifi model but its horrible

Full sized verizon sim (from thunderbolt) WORKS!

Just wanted to chime in. I cut down the sim from my HTC thunderbolt (verizon) and it works in the new iPad!!! this is great news as I'm grandfathered into unlimited data.

Does an unlimited 4g sim for. A phone work in the iPad ? Does it change you to a tablet plan?

Yes it does work with the iPad. Nope it doesnt' change to a tablet plan. Bascially it just uses your 4G sim for internet. You won't be able to make and recieve calls from your phone but you will have internet on your ipad.

I have a Thunderbolt on a grandfathered unlimited data plan. If I put the SIM in my Verizon iPad 3, would I be able to use the iPad's hotspot? My Thunderbolt does not currently have the $30 hotspot add on.

But can you stick that SIM back into your phone? If not then how are you going to use the phone.....?

You just swap them back and forth between devices as needed. However, this gets kind of annoying if you are doing it often, especially if you use a case that covers the iPads sim card slot. I think I'm just going to go with the Wi-Fi version for now and tethet through my Nexus.

I cut the SIM card from my Thunderbolt and used it on my iPad. Speed test is faster on the iPad, compared to both tethered and directly from Thunderbolt. I'm using the sim adapter when I'm on the Thunderbolt.

Apologies for cross posting.

I already have a post paid Verizon data plan that I use with a verizon usb551l and my laptop. I cut the SIM card today and made it to a micro SIM. Now, when I plug it into the iPad, it always gives the following error.

Could not activate cellular data network

The things I checked based on the search results.

1. PRL is up to date.
2. Tried reset network settings method.
3. Tried re-provisioning (waited for 10 minutes and then did a reboot).
4. Tried clear all settings.

In order to verify that I did not make my SIM a dud while cutting, I plugged it into the USB modem and it works great on my laptop.

The top left hand side shows "verizon 3G" with approximately 3 bars.

Any ideas on how I can resolve the problem? Thanks!
