Your best bet may actually be to deal directly with the carrier if VZW won't help. UPS will hold it at a distribution center, FedEx will reroute to a FedEx store, both at no charge.

My local apple store had the phone I wanted so I came to pick it up and now I'm waiting for the cancellation of my Verizon order to go through. It was still showing that I had an order with them

I cancelled it myself. It says it's cancelled but it kept showing on Apple's system. A Verizon rep told me it could take 1 to 2 hours. Hopefully not or I'm going to lose this phone

If I know I'd be pushed back I would get the black but I have a ship by 28th of this month. So I prob hold off to see if I get any movement this week. I don't want to jump the gun. So they were able to cancel pre order and activate that one on spot no issues ?

Not sure. Canceled it via phone through an automated system. About an hour later I tried to order on Apple.com to see if I was eligible and I was.
No I cancelled ahead of time. That reserve link doesn't check your eligibility, so I reserved one before cancelling.
There were a bunch on there when I checked but you could see them dropping off. Initially I tried with a 128 but it was taken before I could finalize the reservation. It says they update at midnight, but they had to have updated just before I checked mid morning.
Anything yet? My original date was also 9/23 - ended up shipping on Thursday but 2-day shipping. Scheduled for Tuesday but I hope it gets here tomorrow. 256Gb 7+ Black. I ordered it at like 12:02am on the day they went on sale.
Anyway, I'm sure yours will be shipping soon too. Previous years I have had luck finding them at Best Buy and Target. They would be able to cancel your order and it usually takes just a bit for it to fall off. Something to check into while you wait. Every year it seems like I end up ordering and then it doesn't come in right away, so I start the hunt locally.

Picked up 2 MB 7+ from Apple - 128 and 256.
