Quick question, do you ever use more than 2GB? If so, are you willing to pay for more?

Being able to watch Netflix or Hulu+ while working the graveyard shift without internet access or a laptop is a GODSEND. Every movie I've watched kind of runs around 500MB. Under these circumstances, its pretty easy to run over 2GB quite easily.

For me it doesn't matter if I go over today. It's not hard to imagine that I would go over sometime in the near future as more and more data hungry apps come available.

I'm grandfathered on the unlimited plan, too. I never come close to hitting the limit. Most of my data transfer is at home (WiFi) or at work (also WiFi), but what if I should need it some day? I guess it's the thrill of hanging on to something that you can't get any more.

Exactly. I rarely go over but who knows what the future holds. Once I was unexpectedly traveling for a month and went way over 2GB. This happens a lot in my line of work. Once my home internet went out for a couple days (curse you Comcast) and I tethered the whole time without worry. It's nice to know that I can use Slingbox or the Netflix app whenever/however I want. The peace of mind is worth it.

This debate is so old. How many people use more than 2GB monthly? Last I checked it was 4%. Even of the people who come on and whine (or brag about being grandfathered) I bet 90% never use over 2GB.

ash =o)

PS expect 22 replies, at least one with a grab from ATT, touting how much data they have used

We've had this conversation on this forum before. Do a search. There are plenty of people posting screen-caps of using over 2GB.

And like I said before, I don't care if I currently use over 2GB or not. I might use it next month or next year. The moment I agree to a capped plan any chances of going over without getting charged are gone. So I will be doing everything I can to retain an unlimited plan until I no longer have a choice (upgrading to LTE will probably do it.)

Did you read the article? It says Verizon has decided to leave the unlimited 3G for a LIMITED time and then move to their tiered plans as usual. People who get the unlimited plan will be like the lucky on AT&T who also have it.

With the expansion of mobile broadband to 4x that of the home PC prices should be coming down, not moving up. With more users and better technology being developed every 18 months we should be at the point where the unlimited data plan has an associated cost of $19.95 per month.

The fact that we don't just exemplifies the greed in corporate America.

Teetering is how you easily go over the limit. I've hit 10 GB in a month while heavy tethering out of town. Thank God for unlimited data.

what sucks the most is the fact im using a droid and i did well over 3gb half way through the month.

;) but i have an agent line so mine will never be limited.

Who gives a rat's ass how old this debate is. It will go on as long as their varying data plans with devices that suck up more and more data.

Besides, I up you one and say I have access to unlimited McRibs. And brag about it.

yes i did read the article, you probably should reread though

currently verizon is tiered
they are moving to unlimited
and then at some point down the road back to tiered

so saying they are following att's lead and going the same direction is inaccurate,

i don't have verizon so i can't say for certain but i think they actually had tiered plans before att and att followed them to that pricing scheme. now verizon is going back to unlmited to grabbed customers, and probably depending on how quicly they reach the subscription numbers they'll go back to tiered again

i have an android phone on verizon and it is unlimited for $30 a month.
not seeing where verizon is doing any tiered plans. when i sined up for my plan they had no tiered options available, the only option was unlimited data for $30

Dayum...you had to bring up McRibs. Now I want one. :p

This site is so funny: McRib Locator -- that someone would spend the time to even develop it is a gas. At the bottom of the site, there's even "McRib Sightings" stats section.

(I pulled it from a thread we had back in December when this unlimited McRib talk was going around. ;) )

Yeah, I know. I contributed to the site. :D

Edit: just found out the hard way that my local McD's no longer has it. :(

I remember saying, "A 1GB hard drive?!? I'll NEVER fill that up!" I just bought a 1.5TB drive for backups. I still have the issue of MacAddict where Apple broke 100Mhz. Progress happens pretty quickly, people. Show of hands, who still has a SCSI Zip Drive in a box somewhere? (reluctantly raises hand) Before we know it, 2GB will seem like nothing.

maybe you should visit the verizon site, they have multiple data plans and have had them since last year $15 for 150mb and $29.99 for unlimited, and this has been the case for some time now

3) After the limited time, Verizon will go back to their existing tiered data plans. Apparently their existing data plans are listed in (1) above, so they will go back to the following tiers:
Tier A) $15 for 150 MB
Tier B) $30 for unlimited.

I think the idea is they go back to A and B goes away, replaced with some limit (probably matching AT&T like they do with the prices). The carriers don't want to give you unlimited because of the cost to them as more and more people use data.
