They are consistently throttling back if you are in the top 5% (over 2 Gb a month) I went over that amount for the last 2 months. Prior to that my speeds were always close to 1.5 Mbs, now since the throttling has begun, alway near 0.5 Mbs, no matter where I go. The fact that they say they only throttle back if congested is a scam. To them, one other user on that tower means it's congested and they throttle you back. oddly, my upload speed are now higher than my downloads speeds. And you can always tell when you are being throttled. Run the speed test, and watch it spike up over 1.5 Mbs for a short time, and then drop way down.

thats what kept me from switching to verizon. Here in Chicago, all of the major carriers on average are the same crap. US Cellular seems to have better reception in places the big guys dont, but their phones stink.

I've always been a fan of GSM phones anyways. But at one point, i was so fed up with at&t's service at my fiance's house, i went to scope out verizon after they got the iphone.

Horrible data speed, with high latency. At least if it was 1.5mbps with low ping, it'd be all good.

If we all pool our money together, all the macrumors members can build the greatest mobile phone carrier in the USA!

We'd do things right, and wouldnt get greedy! right?:D

You think thats bad, loo at the sprint result I got a few days earlier.

I'm from the uk and I am used to gsm so had my iPhone 4 on AT&T when I moved. The data was consistently out of service/unusuably slow in the Chicago metro area I moved to Verizon. It's like night and day!

I get 1.5 mbps where-ever I go with Verizon (chicago area). I am also a heavy user so I use about 500MB a month.

By heavy user I mean I use my phone for downloading podcasts, buying music on the go, navigation, reading review sites, surfing news sites, checking e-mail A LOT (business use), and even Skype conversations from time to time (voice over 3G).

I also listen to a lot of music, but thats where playlists and shuffle features come in handy (if you want something random).

I am puzzled as to who can possibly use 2+ GB of data on a cell phone. All it takes is turning Wi-Fi on at home & other known/common locations and being smart about how you plan (i.e. download music you like ahead of time, use shuffle to get random things playing versus streaming high quality mp3s over 3G like in internet radio).

I also have a laptop and I find that most places where I would use it, I would have Wi-Fi anyway.

sucks to be verizon, huh?
Nope not really actually, I would much rather have Verizon over AT&T. Ever used a LTE phone before? Verizon actually has decent coverage unlike AT&T which has it in like what 5 cities? In real world experience I have not seen much of a difference at all between my girlfriends iPhone 4 on ATT and my iPhone and iPad on Verizon.

Unless you live in the boonies, you probably live in a Verizon 4G market by now. If fast data is a priority, get a 4G capable phone.

On at&t in my office, just north of Chicago (where I have just 2 or 3 bars of service), I'm getting 5.21 dl and 1.16 ul with a 138ms latency. I have dropped calls multiple times, but complained enough that I think they are adding towers or increasing signal strength near me to compensate.

I travel a lot with my job and everywhere I have been since I got the 4s has great service and data. Huge upgrade compared to AT&T.

So their speeds are already ****** to begin with and they still throttle if you use too much?? Sounds like this carrier has some ridiculous policies

I was getting about .2/.4 down and .2/.6 up on my iPhone 4s on vz 3g. I want to thank the person who suggested *228 then 2. After doing that my speeds are 1.28 down and .9 up. MUCH MUCH BETTER! Thank you!
