I don't understands why everyone is complaining. No one is forcing you to move to these plans. If you have the Unlimted plan released in February, you are grandfathered in. There are still people in the original Email & Data plan (original unlimted, before data was in demand) so I don't know why people are panicking. This would only affect new customers so I don't understand how this will make people switch carriers. If you find another carrier that better suites your need, switch and stop complaining about Verizon. I like my services to work when I need them, so I don't care if I have to pay more than other carriers. It costs to build and maintain a network. Keep in mind that your needs don't represent the needs of everyone else.

The announcement is that ALL plans will be limited to 720p video on phones and 1080p video on tablets.

This affects everyone on grandfathered plans as well.

Turn off wi-fi assist.

I just slapped my forehead. That's probably it!

quite a few of these cell carriers extoll the benefits of 480p-- "dvd quality", they call it. But aside from the fact that DVDs are quite old, and the marketing has told us to move on-- the streaming services do not regard SD very highly. I could swear that Amazon sources it's 480p stuff from different masters than 1080p/"HD."

A DVD of "Dune" is very different from an HD source.

Go unlimited is $40 a line for 4 lines. Beyond unlimited is $50 per line for 4 lines. And that's on auto pay it's $5 more a line if you don't do auto pay on either plan.

Not $75 per line guess you can't read

What does this look like for a family of four? Is it just $75x4?

Currently with TMO, and generally happy, though my wife has had some reception issues at work which might require her to either get an additional work line (that work pays for but she doesnt want to lose her number OR carry two phones) or deal with it.

We currently pay $120 plus taxes with TMO, but the way iot is looking that would go up to around $160, taxes included, if we wanted to get the new iPhones without paying up front for all of them due to it looking like they require the ONE plan for their "free" deals.

EDIT: Looks like $40 a line for four lines. Wondering if a Best Buy discount is a possibility. This could actually be tempting...

Boy, aren’t you helpful lol. I did read after posting originally but always appreciate the passive aggressive responses.

I even edited that (and you quoted the edited part). Guess you can’t... nevemind.

I was on the 16, 20 GB plan for my Verizon Wireless plan so that several family members could use the data that they wanted to use. I average about 1-3GB/mo max even now with the unlimited plan. So this video streaming thing doesn't affect me at all because I do 99% of my data usage on WiFi.

Am I happy about it? Not really. Too many companies today are backtracking. Microsoft OneDrive used to be Unlimited. Verizon used to be unlimited - when the going got tough they killed it.

What I was paying for 20 GB was more than this "unlimited" plan so whatever.

Really getting tired of Verizon changing stuff all the time. But it is the best cellular provider where I am. Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile have barely any reception here.

With employment discount - it's actually pretty cheap. I'll be staying Verizon for now.

I think if everyone wants to watch HD videos without overpaying companies such as Verizon for it, there's two options: Use a VPN to get around these restrictions or just use Wi-Fi.

Your suggestion to use a VPN or WIFI is great... but it's 2017 and Verizon customers cannot easily watch 1080p videos on their phone outside the home.

That's that's the real crime here. :)

I knew this was gonna happen when the carriers got rid of the data buckets and switched to "unlimited"

It was so much easier when you paid for 10GB and you got to use that 10GB any way you wanted. Or if you paid for 20GB... you got to use 20GB... etc.

But now... they give you "unlimited" but it's actually worse than it was before.

You pay $75 a month and risk getting throttled at any time during the month and you will never see any video higher than 480p on your phone over cellular. Yikes.

But if you pay $85 a month... you might get throttled after you've used 22GB and you can watch 720p video on your phone. Magical.

Boy... that extra $10 takes you from "pretty awful" to "still not great but somewhat usable"

I wonder what they would charge to let me use data in any way I see fit?

Will we ever see unrestricted data buckets again?

I liked The Verge's take on it: "Verizon’s good unlimited data plan is now three bad unlimited plans... Cheapest plan limits video to 480p, and there’s no way to watch 1080p on a phone anymore"

First it was all-you-can-eat true unlimited 10 years ago. Then they switched to tiered buckets. Now they're doing restricted "unlimited"

What else is there? They've tried everything. Yet they can't figure out the correct way.

I can't wait to see what new scheme the carriers dream up next. :p
