    *with full sarcasm intended*

What???? I thought they were announcing the Verizon iphone today???? hahahha. Even the new iPad is dedicated to AT&T. Maybe this will stop the stupid Verizon threads for another six months.

Not only no CDMA iPhone, but a GSM iPad with AT&T the only negotiated service provider! It's delicious, don't you think?

    Thats true.
Even the data plan deal is excellent.
AT&T is offering the service without contract, for $15 a month (250MB of data) or $30 a month (unlimited).
So you get access to AT&T's Wi-Fi hotspots as well. Best of all, it's a prepaid service—no contract. You can activate it from the iPad any time, and cancel whenever you want.

Definitely should be enough to shut some people up for awhile. By the way, saw your tagline...congrats on the new 3G tower so close to your house!

Not at all. Jobs specifically said that the 3G version of the iPad would be sold unlocked and without any commitment to any wireless carrier whatsoever. If your wireless carrier offers a data plan that you're willing to pay for, and has the ability to use GSM Micro SIM cards (not sure what they are, as opposed to normal GSM SIM cards) then it should just work with the iPad.

The technical specs for the iPad confirm that it cannot use T-Mobile's 3G frequency. However, it is completely compatible with T-Mobile's GPRS and EDGE technology. So if you happen to find a data plan from T-Mobile that suits your needs, you should be good to go with Apple's full blessing. From that perspective it definitely isn't "dedicated to AT&T".

That being said, they also announced a couple of prepaid, contract-free 3G data plans that AT&T will be offering for use with the iPhone. So I'd say that it "strongly favours AT&T". I'd be interested to see if T-Mobile chooses to compete with AT&T on price in that arena.

However, since Verizon and Sprint use incompatible technologies, they're still out in the cold.

This is very cool (no contract) and enough reason for me to wait for a 3g model. I don't travel enough to need it full time, but for a vacation or work this is awsome. $29 bucks for one month, turn it off till I need it again. I wish ALL data plans were like this.

They sorta are once your contract is over... that's the only caveat, we all want the latest, so we bind ourselves. If we paid full price, we'd be free.

As I understand it, there is not contract required. Data "plan" (for 3G) is month to month. Start, stop, leave as you choose.

ATT's gonna love that. First, they can't handle iPhone data loads and now this, with people starting and stopping.

Yes, the plan is not contract locked. You can pick and choose. Start and stopping is good.

Oh the Verizon tears are so delicious, yum!
