I'd like to give a warm welcome to the Verizon iPhone users. ^_^ I know it sounds corny but I felt like posting this.

Got 2 on reserve for pick up tomorrow at Apple. I've had a pretty good experience with AT&T in terms of customer service these past few months, and have nothing but good things to say about them. Unfortunately the reception issue is driving this decision for us.

In most places around town AT&T gets good reception and good speeds. It's a shame that the moment you turn down our street the bars drop for 4-5 to 1-2. Making a completed phone call in our home without losing signal, break-ups, or drops is almost like hitting the lottery.

How were you able to reserve two iPhones? I was only able to reserve one.

Without a doubt. Twice the US distribution... Twice the digital content consumption. Yet more "gateway" customers to explore fantastic variety of quality products and services. I bought (and kept buying) AAPL when it bottomed out in the high 80's when the market crashed 2 years ago. Now, along with anybody else who did, has seen a $270 per share increase. The party is far from over... Analyst majority has AAPL priced at an average of $467 er share, and rampaging to becoming the most valuable company on Earth, and soon therafter, history's first Trillion Dollar Market Cap company. Doubt any of it at your own expense :p

Not true.

Verizon is, in fact, FASTER. Cnet did a test and it was faster in 14 out of the 16 tests done . I live in the mid-west and it is faster here too. See the Cnet video. And just wait. There will be videos popping up all over the internet comparing the two. What will you say when Verizon is found to be faster overall?

http://cnettv.cnet.com/

CNET is very SF/NY focused....was a VERY SMALL LIMITED test. Here are my sources:

http://www.pcworld.com/article/1895...rlds_second_3g_wireless_performance_test.html

http://www.wirelessweek.com/News/2010/11/Carriers-Fastest-3G-Network-ATT/

GSW drove 950,000 miles in 400 markets....AT&T was 60% faster than Verizon.

Yes, I can't wait for the next set of test results. I hope that nobody calls that Verizon iPhone during the test! (data will stop).

The decision for me was speed / data, vs making client calls (work from home) without dropping calls every hour on the phone.

Since most of my time is spent in WiFi anyway, I chose the "fewer dropped calls" option.

Also, while AT&T is faster, that's only if you have AT&T full signal. All too often I find myself sitting with my current iPhone (3GS) with 0-1 bars, and friends with Verizon (droids) with full bars. My faster speed doesn't help the fact that I still have no signal.

I'd prefer better coverage of slower speeds. Where I need faster speeds, I have WiFi.

Ordered 1 for me, 1 for wife (who wouldn't switch to AT&T) at 3am this morning.

Same reason's here. Ordered mine and the misses this morning around 3am CDT for pickup at Ridgedale (Minnetonka, MN) on Thursday sometime.

Coming from T-Mobile we have to setup the family plan at the store but would have waited until the 18th if that's what it took.

Not caring about the absolute speed of VZ vs ATT, I am just happy that we can now have IPhones as we do not have ATT coverage here at all. As long as I can talk, and check my email, I am content.

Good question. Here are the details:

I used the Apple store app at about 6:30 am EST this morning (obviously). Reserved one, and that was it. Then I went back in and reserved another one. I thought it was strange that it just reserved each one and then it basically kicked me back.

Note: I reserved a 16gb and a 32gb. Out of curiousity I logged back in and tried to reserve another one, but received a pop-up message "Error: You have exceeded the maximum number of reservations for this product."

I'm guessing that it's the different models that allowed me to place two orders.

So funny I just got a text from ATT saying "they're going to help me with my data usage". I called screaming holy murder about wanting unlimited data, threatening to go to VZ ect. Will post if I could actually get unlimited as a IP4 newbie. Will undoubtedly get data overages taken off, and will ask about: tethering, wifi tethering, hotspot, and wireless internet to my laptop for cheap. Really good thing ATT is pretty pliable, and you can really get a good deal after a little fighting. Have'nt heard of VZ being very easy to work with, and secretly really like ATTs service overall.

The guy is in poor coverage to begin with, and he's completely insulating the phone. People who buy this **** are complete idiots.

That said, my mom (58 years old) stayed up and pre-ordered at 2am, and got her iPhone yesterday. We activated it, and I couldn't facetime her because she had an alltel plan that was absorbed by verizon a few years back. She pays a little less, so unless she switches to a V plan, facetime is disabled.

Still the same DB's they were when I bailed for ATT because they had disabled features on my razr (mp3 playback disabled unless music was bought $3 a song from their V store, bluetooth file transfer removed, no custom ringtones, etc) and wanted me to pay extra to re-enable them.

That 6000Sux. With a phone like the iPhone I would hope carriers don't mess it up by restricting it and loading unnecessary carrier bloatware. Hopefully everything gets straightened out and your mom can enjoy her phone.

With AT&T I get 25% off and another $5 off on top off my bill so that's mainly why im staying, VZW is too expensive for my taste.

If someone was selling you a phone and told you, but you only get signal 80% of the time and even when you do you will drop 70% of you calls is that is ok???? That is what some people get with AT&T. Even when I have a AT&T data signal the transfer rates are horrible.

It isn't just in NY and SF that people have lousy signals and coverage.

Individual results may vary.

I ordered mine at 3:01 am (ET) and I also got the 2/18 est. ship date... I hope this is Verizon just covering their asses... I'm too excited to wait another week. I also ordered two through the Verizon site. I ordered two 32gb models... I never received any exceeding reserves message... Weird.

I pre-ordered 2 32gb iphones for pickup tomorrow at the apple store. It will only let you preorder 1 at a time.

Your example is the most important reason for Verizon to get the iPhone. I have long believed the DOJ should step in and demand the exclusivity be overturned for the same reason. Several years ago AT&T was smug and you couldn't get crap from them. Long hold times, billing errors, incompetent customer service reps (how many times I heard "wow, never seen that before. I see it's wrong but can't help). Plus the poor call quality and despite a few press releases not doing much to fix it. I had bills in excess of $600 due to AT&T forgetting my rollover minutes several times, and the call quality only got worse as the added capacity by compressing the voice calls. It got so bad I gave up my iPhone a couple months before the Verizon announcement because I simply couldn't understand the person on the other end of the call.

Since Verizon has announced they are getting the phone, AT&T has really stepped up their game. The DOJ should have demanded that years ago. Competition is good for all consumers regardless of carrier, and it needs to be vigorously protected.

Verizon - Step Backwards

I honestly think a Verizon iPhone is a step backwards.

Slower speeds, no data/voice at the same time, and relying on decades old obsolete technology.

Everyone seems to be focusing on the call quality aspect of Verizon. -- Fine, I'll give you that much. But that network has been in place for far longer than AT&T. Eventually AT&T will catch up in this aspect.

As for data, Verizon data seems to be intermittent, slow, and just basically akin to "dial-up" vs "broadband" for AT&T. -- and just wait till the Verizon network gets flooded with iPhone traffic! It will be like dial-up with a constant busy signal to log on.

Seems people hopping on the Verizon iPhone bandwagon want to buy a "futuristic" phone and travel back in time to use it!

The iPhone is a smartphone, it goes beyond just making a call. AT&T right now is better suited for it and it is where it rightfully belongs.

On a side note.. I'd like to know what carrier Steve Jobs and the top people at Apple are using. I would bet on AT&T hands-down.

First!

Having said that hooray for more people getting a chance to finally own an iPhone!

Good luck, all, at getting yours ASAP! I've had mine since Monday, and coming from a Droid it's a godsend. I love it!

Since your coming from the Droid , could you explain "WHY" the iPhone 4 is a godsend?

What are the major reasons?

Thanks

Interesting thought. I bet Steve (and team) would want an iPhone to work the way they designed it: Multitasking, Speed.

Do not understand all the negative votes for this. Isn't this the news so many people have been waiting for, for years?

Maybe the negatives are for the antenna; I have heard if you hold the phone, completely cupped, in hands that are sheathed in lead gloves, while shuffling your feet rapidly over a wool carpet, within 100 feet of high-tension power lines, there are reception problems.

Butt-hurt AT&T fanboys.

Yeah, I don't get why AT&T people take the Verizon situation personally. It's like the iPhone is cheating on them. Give me a break get over it/get a life. It's a phone. Stop caring so much. Whipping out the 'data/voice simultaneous' argument left and right. Who gives a shitt? I like AT&T with my iPhone but I could care less that Verizon got it. More domination in the market in my eyes aka more consumers aka more response to customer feedback by Apple aka better products by Apple.

Seriously it erks me out when at&t fanboys defend at&t like its their husband. Notice that I said husband. I'm on a horse.

This was confusing for me too; I signed up for a family plan but only selected 1 phone and my reservation was confirmed. I asked Apple Chat what the story was and they instructed me to login and follow the same process to reserve the 2nd phone. Towards the end of the reservation it will show the phone number transferring and they were different, so it must have worked.

My question; does the entire family need to come in to claim their phones? Apple Chat says no. I don't care about transferring contacts from my 4 year old Samsung flip, neither does my wife. Just give me the working iPhones!

What is amazing is that Apple will probably sell a lot more "old" iPhones than "new" Android phones on Verizon's network....especially when everyone knows that a new iPhone will come out in 4 months. What will happen to Droid sales this summer? Prob fall off a cliff.

Butt-hurt AT&T fanboys.

Huh?

Read the post. My comments were positive. I was using sarcasm, while wondering why the Verizon phone was getting negative votes. My post was commenting on what I feel are ridiculous claims of another "antenna gate" for what I feel is a great phone on what I know is a great network, and it has been reviewed as such by even Consumer Reports as number 1. I did not make a single negative comment about Verizon or the phone on their network. So explain to me the "fan boy" remark. Way to throw labels around. If you are so quick to judge, you may actually want to consider your own biases.

I'm currently an AT&T customer who will be switching back to VZ.

I used the Apple Store iPhone app to order. Never had any mention of type of plan and what not. Just made a reservation to pick up each phone. No charges to card, no request to set up a plan, nothing.

I hope that we don't both need to be there to activate. Was hoping my wife could stay home with our child. Nothing like chasing a two year old around a crazy Apple store while trying to check out.
