Has anyone been able to figure out if the Verizon version of the iPhone 6 will come unlocked from the factory for GSM? My work is buying me an iPhone 6 on Verizon, but I am currently on an AT&T iPhone 5S. I'm hoping I can just pop my AT&T Sim inside and I can get it working.

Yes, it will be GSM unlocked.
You can pop in your AT&T sim or any gsm sim and it will work fine.

This is what I wanted to hear :D

But how do you know this for sure? Has anyone confirmed this? Can anyone else vouch for this?

Be sure that you will be fine. I bought my 5s from Verizon with contract for $199 and using it in Singapore right now and has no problem with GSM. I used it in Europe as well.

Hmm sounds more promising. I'm also reading that they will be capable for GSM use right out the box. However, it will only work for international GSM use and no US GSM carrier will be able to use it...

My Verizon iPhone 5S worked with my existing AT&T SIM card right out of the box.

For some reason, Verizon has some agreement with the FCC that requires them to sell unlocked iPhones. They will work with any GSM carrier anywhere if you put in a valid SIM card (even in the US).

All Verizon 4G LTE devices are factory unlocked. I have been with Verizon for 7yrs and I did confirm this with them

Bought my 5S for full retail to retain my unlimited data - it's factory unlocked. Sometimes I pop in a T-Mobile SIM when traveling, because Verizon is so congested.

Yea I have verizon but I have my Cricket sim in my 5s and it works fine. But verizon told me all 4g LTE devices are factory unlocked. It also on their site

Awesome, thanks guys! Work is paying for my iPhone, but the only caveat is that I have to make sure the phone will work with my AT&T sim since the company I work for uses Verizon service.

verizon unlocked phones

not all Verizon 4g phones are unlocked.....apple HTC new blackberrys and LG definitely will work across all carriers except Sprints network. the iphones work the best with all functions working like mms, text, and data. you may not get the maximum speeds given by each carrier but it does work. The other phones will have some or no issues with their feature like mms data etc.

Samsung phones are unlocked globally supposedly but have read horror stories of it not. They definitely do not work with AT&T tmobile or sprint in the US. I had a s3, Note 2 & 3, and galaxy s4 & s5 and it did not work with a tmobile SIM. i think verizon locks them on purpose on the samsung phones.

Do they unlock Verizon iphone 6 right away as soon as you buy it?Now, does anyone know if the Verizon iphone 6 unlocked, will it be able to take foreign sim cards when traveling to that specific country?

I have and work at Cricket Wireless whom AT&T bought... And I have a cricket sim in my iPhone 5s and also my moms Verizon Galaxy S 3 and it works perfectly.

I called both Apple and Verizon to confirm that the iPhone 6 will be GSM unlocked. I'm heading to Europe for a long stint here shortly and wanted to make sure I would be able to use it over there without any problems.

Verizon phones are unlocked out of the box.

The iPhone 6 seems to support a larger number of LTE bands vs. previous iPhones, but you'll still want to compare what bands are supported by the Verizon iPhone 6 (Model A1549-CDMA) or 6+ (Model A1522-CDMA) (link) against the bands supported by the carriers in the specific countries where you plan to travel (link).

Does Verizon sell unlocked iPhones to non Verizon customers? So I buy at full price from them and take it to TMobile? Apple only offers the GSM variant unlocked.

Last year you could delete the plan at the end of the checkout process and still order just the phone.

This year when you you order the "month-to-month" iPhone (i.e. off-contract) through their website, they force you to choose a plan:

Please select a voice share plan or unselect the lines

You'd probably have to go into a VZW store on the 19th to avoid that.

Yeah, I don't understand that part. Is this Verizon MORE Everything a contract based thing or not? On the left it says "Apple iPhone NO contract yadida..." and then I am forced to pick a plan? What does that mean? Am I signing up for something longer than a month even so I picked month-to-month? Not getting it.

I'm not sure what you're asking?

If you're signing up for Verizon service with a new iPhone 6, you still have to have some sort of "minutes+texts+data" plan. More Everything is just Verizon's name for their shared data plan. That's in addition to whatever minutes and texts you sign up for (those are usually unlimited these days).

A contract means you commit to two years of service in exchange for Verizon subsidizing $450 of the cost of a $650+ phone. You can cancel service, but there is an early termination fee (ETF) if you do, because they want some of that subsidy back.

On a month-to-month plan, you can cancel any time with no ETF penalty, because you've already paid for the phone upfront.

OTOH, if you're just trying to buy a full-priced, off-contract iPhone 6 for Verizon to use elsewhere (i.e. no Verizon service), you can't currently do that at verizonwireless.com. You'd have to go into a Verizon store or an Apple store at this time.

So just to update, I can confirm that AT&T sim works in my Verizon iPhone 6.

However, I noticed when I made and received calls, LTE would switch to 4g. Once the call is over it would switch back to LTE. This happens when I call in or out.

Correct.

Unless you're in Chicago or Minneapolis, AT&T's implementation of LTE is data only. On their network, the phone has to drop down to "4G" (which is actually a fast 3G) in order to support simultaneous voice and data for the duration of the call.

So a Verizon iPhone 6 Plus will work 100% with AT&T's and T-Mobile's LTE and 4G data and voice?
