Crunchgear claims that a company called Landor Associates is already working on an ad campaign for Verizon's upcoming iPhone launch.
Ladnor has been working on Verizon branding since 2007 and is, according to a tipster, now hard at work preparing for the iPhone HD launch.
The rumor seems to be consistent with persistent rumors that Verizon will finally get the iPhone this year. We have to assume the original 2012 exclusivity contract with AT&T has since been renegotiated.

Historically, Crunchgear has been an unreliable source of Apple-related rumors, though leaked information through Verizon's ad agency seems plausible, especially given the number of Verizon rumors that have been circulating.

Be interesting to see if/how they work around the whole "Can't do data and voice at the same time over EV-DO", especially since Apple specifically touted that "feature" of the iPhone in one of the recent ad campaigns. I'd have to imagine that it would have to be a hybrid CDMA and LTE device.

Why would Verizon have an ad agency working to brand the iPhone? Hasn't Apple always insisted on doing it themselves?

Uh.huh.

So we're now trusting an unreliable source because it's what we want to hear?

THough what I think many people also really want to hear is Apple saying, "We're launching a NEW open source App Store that lets you install any open source software you want!"

One of those things, when I see it, I'll believe it.

Agreed. No one has been able to come up with a reason for a change in the contract.

No proof of a CDMA phone in the US despite refusing one to China etc. And no proof that Verizon suddenly has GSM coverage

Plus no proof that the 2010 iphone will have LTE and Verizon amazingly having enough LTE ready within the next 4-6 months to support the iphone without falling back on the useless CDMA network

and that GSM/CDMA dual chip that is in the works has faded out without any recent mention that Apple snatched up a ton of them. or even a mention they are ready for prime time

Plus if Apple was about to embrace CDMA after all, why make a GSM only ipad.

But technically isn't the contract with AT&T Mobility for exclusivity for a "Gsm" iphone only? Which would mean that Verizon could carry the iphone without breaching the contract apple has with att?

Yay, another US wireless carrier's network to get bogged down because of iphone data.

Yeah, but that would be ironic, don't you think? Verizon's oh so great network performing just like AT&T's. What would they say then? I'll believe it when I see it, as I don't see Apple making a special CDMA-2000 iPhone for only about a year (or whenever we get LTE rolled out). CDMA technology used in the US isn't the same as that used in Asia, so the special China version can't be used as the base for a Verizon version.

1. Apple makes commericials out of their products, not their carriers
2. 5 years is 5 years
3. if #2 was changed, than when does the "6 month extension" apply
4. Verizon sucks

Until it actually happens, I am not going to get my hopes up. I'll just keep enjoying my current phone as I have another year on this contract.

Finally!

Not that I care for Verizon or I want to get an iPhone on Verizon. I don't care at all. But competition is good!

Does this mean that other carriers will have iPhone too? I am on TMobile, their 3G speed in NYC is quite decent. Not planning to move, a whole family plan with 5 lines locked in and the overall quality is good. Hope see iPhone on every network, that's the way to compete with Android.

Now we could have full scale competion, on phone level, on app level, on carrier level. let the fight begin!

So that makes it front page worthy???

I'm sorry people, but Verizon will not be getting the iPhone this year. Move along, nothing more to see here…

Apple and AT&T make their own ads, and so does Verizon.

There have been no at&t-made iPhone ads. They are all made by Apple. Because this is apparently a Verizon account with an agency I doubt it because it seems highly unlikely that Apple would let Verizon make their own iPhone ads.

And i highly doubt regional managers for someone who subs out Verizon will know anything.

it's very unkind for macrumors to get your hopes so high, but Sadly there will be no Verizon iPhone this year.

Good point... though it may be those "Get iphone data plan for only $29.99 with Verizon" or something like that.
