Apple and AT&T make their own ads, and so does Verizon.

Yeah but I have never seen an AT&T iPhone ad, just Apple. Even when Verizon was slamming AT&T with their "There's a map for that!" commercials. Which was kind of a slam at Apple's "There's an app for that!" When AT&T responded, it did so with other phone models and Luke Wilson.

Apple responded also with a "Can your network do that?" ad with regards to the iPhone capabilities.

So two companies with different ads but targeted against the same entity, Verizon.

Epic FAIL!
Apple handles the iPhone ads, not the wireless provider. This should belong on page 2. Let alone, they're also an unreliable source.
:apple:

You are assuming that this story revolves around TELEVISION ads, and not other media. If you think Apple produces the marketing materials you see in phone carrier's stores, you'd be mistaken. Or do you think Apple produces Best Buy store ads and promotional brochures too now?

There are many forms of media, not just one. If you actually took the time to read the original linked story, you would have read this part:

"Because Landor focuses a bit more on branding – they, for example, created the dual-B logo for Blackberry"

and would know they aren't talking about TV ads.

Hope it does come to Verizon. I'm bored with my BB and tired of doing a battery pull 2x a day. Plus, with RIM releasing ugly **** like the 9670 Flip/Slider and their outdated OS, I am beyond ****ing over this Blackberry nonsense.

I want an iPhone.

I want to change to verizon because they have better coverage up here.
What about tethering?
2 big reasons to get out of my contract.

Not happening this year. You wont see an iPhone on Verizon until LTE is available and widespread, no matter how much you wish it, and no matter who says it's supposedly going to happen any sooner.

1. Apple makes commericials out of their products, not their carriers
2. 5 years is 5 years
3. if #2 was changed, than when does the "6 month extension" apply
4. Verizon sucks

You sound fairly confident about that second one. We saw a clip out of a contract that I'm guessing is more than a couple of paragraphs long. "5 years" could mean 5 years for the entire agreement including service after the exclusivity had expired. In other words, Apple gets to control AT&T's use of the phone even after the exclusivity is over. There would be all sorts of details pertaining to timelines like this.

That said, the truth is we don't know if it's coming, but we do know that we don't know that it's not.

In the UK, the wireless providers do their own advertising in addition to Apple's. I'd imagine the situation is the same in other locations where the iPhone is non-exclusive. When there is competition, it makes sense for the manufacturer and networks to advertise separately - the networks need to compete with each other (which would not be done by Apple advertising) whilst Apple just wants to sell more of its phones (which may not be accomplished by network in-fighting concentrating on differences between the networks - since they all sell the same iPhone). On the other hand, in an exclusive market, Apple advertising will fulfil both roles, since increased iPhone sales = gains for the network.

Once the iphone does land with Verizon I bet everyone's new complaint will be how slow the data speeds are. But hey, at least they'd have more 3G coverage in the boondocks and countryside if they oh so happen to travel there.

I am in the optimistic group that Jobs will announce something, even if the device isn't coming until next year, I want to hear Verizon come out of his mouth June 7, 2010.

As for anyone who states that this isn't happening, or isn't happening June 7th, I wonder if those people are the same ones who stated Apple would never go to Intel lol

Wait, so they confirmed the "iPhone HD" name?

I guess it's as good as anything else they could come up with. Meh.

Yeah, because adding HD to everything this year is well - the norm. Lol. It's not like it took a genius to come up with that name. People on the net came up with it.

This story is a joke. So is the source.

Thank the lord I hope this is true so that Verizon fanboys could finally shut the he** up and stop whining. And so it could free up AT&T's network for those of us who are happy where we are.

How do you know they won't just make the phone LTE capable, sell it as a CDMA phone and with a software upgrade....boom...an LTE phone when the network is ready?

I used to think that they would wait until LTE was rolled out too before adding a different carrier. But that was before Android started nipping at their heels. It's a very different story now. The longer they wait, the more future business they will lose as people start investing in the Android platform and Android apps, accessories, etc. etc.

As the saying goes....."the early bird catches the worm"

I'm not to sure what to think... I mean..
AT&T commercials have stopped using the iPhone in their commercials.. Trying to show off there blackberry and etc.. I see that as a way to let customers know that they offer more than the iPhone and that they don't want to be known as the iPhone carrier.. U know?? And I also see iPhone sales to stop dropping ithe u.s.. I mean if u think about it.c everybody that wants an iPhone and wants to be with AT&T have done it by now.. I see apple and AT&T evening out. Theirs not much higher they can go

I love how so many people post as if they're in the know and are making statements of fact. We're all just guessing.

My dog told me there is no Verizon iPhone in the works, I'd take his advice over the wsj's any day :p

I just want the iPhone on Sprint. Verizon is one spet closer, but until I can get an iPhone on my <$40 unlimited data/text/m2m any carrier plan it is very unlikely I will have one.

I'll upgrade the first day they offer them on Sprint, though.

Speculation

The iPhone "HD" will launch with no mention of Verizon. Then once the initial surge is over, Apple will launch a Verizon iPhone with CDMA and a sim card for international travel. It may support the new network. When it launches it will be goodbye Android according to a recent survey of Verizon users. AT&T earned the delay for the iPad support at reasonable prices.
