I'm on my fifth and everyone has had the issue. My store bad a bad batch of replacement devices, one the antenna, one a bad screen, one wouldn't boot, and the most recent has a bad speaker. The manager is having a brand new device shipped to my house in the original packaging.

Do NOT replace your unit with a refurb if all you hear is a clicking with wifi. A future software update will fix the issue.

Yeah, just like it will fix the antenna issue. :p

Sorry, t'was too tempting.

Would they really have that many refurbs available to replace considering the verizon phone was released last week? I don't know... my replacement phone has no issues so far.

Same issue

Same issue. Clicking noise during calls when connected to wifi. I have turned wifi off in the middle of a call and this solves the problem. Very annoying, especially since I have to have wifi on if I should want to access data during the call.

I went to the Apple store today to get it fixed. The first genius I talked to acknowledged that there was an issue and went into the back to fix it. Came back out and said that there was a metal piece in there that was in the wrong place and that it was fixed now. It wasn't. I connected to the store's wifi and made a call and the issue was still there. So they rescheduled me for another appointment that conveniently was 10 minutes after the genius' and scheduler's shift was over.

The next genius said he didn't hear anything but gave me a replacement....issue unresolved. The new phone makes the same noise. I would have gotten another replacement, but I couldn't hear it on the second phone because the mall was much more crowded for the second appointment.

Any recommendations? It's obviously an issue with the wifi and the main earpiece. I don't hear it on speakerphone or with headphones in while on wifi; just when using it like any other phone.

An Update

After multiple Express Lane calls, I got bumped up to the engineers. They hadn't heard of this issue before, so I think if anyone else has this problem go ahead and call in so that they learn about this issue. The engineers had me troubleshoot some stuff, but none of it fixed the issue. They had me go into the store again where the genius replaced my phone. He didn't think it would fix the issue since it happened on two phones, but the third one does not have the clicking noise. (fyi...the genius mad a test call and verified he heard the noise as well)

For anyone that is having this issue, before you go to the Apple Store, I'd love to know if you did the same thing as me: I didn't take the plastic film off of the back on the first two phones, but the genius took it off the third one before he gave it to me. I'm wondering if this might be the key to the issue. Does anyone who has this issue still have the film on the back? Does taking it off eliminate the clicking?

Thanks

On my second Verizon Iphone

I am having this exact same issue. I have already been to the Apple store once, and they immediately replaced my first Iphone with a second. I didn't realize it until I got home, but my replacement phone has this same issue. Has it been confirmed that apple will be solving this issue with a future update?

I've also had this same problem. I feel as though if you have poor hearing, you may not be able to hear it.

The tech's had also "not heard" of this problem when it was reported. Considering I've read threads like this one, I know that isn't true. I've received the 5th one for various reasons and it clicks so I will be talking to apple again. What I've noticed about these phones is that they all have very similar serial numbers.

The first phone, and the only one with a dissimilar serial number, was perfect...until the ear piece quit working because the sensor in the jack decided to have an issue and I couldn't get it to function properly. I feel like I should have just lived with speaker phone and ear buds right now.

Two of these phones have had the clicking so I know they do not all do it. It's unfortunate. This is my first apple phone and coming from a launch day palm pre, I'm sure you can imagine how upsetting this is.

I don't know if it's related to the clicking, but the phone does like to randomly drop the 3g signal...even if it has 5 bars.

By the way, it is a hardware issue I believe and not software. If you make a call and plug in ear buds, there is still a clicking noise by the ear speaker. I don't know that a "software update" is going to fix that.

I thought I would go ahead and throw it out there. This noise doesn't just happen while a phone call is being made. It's continuous. The only time it's heard is when the phone is next to our head for a call, which is why it seems like it's occurring during a call with the wifi connected.
