Maybe, but once your contract is up and you renew, you will have to pay the higher rates. You dont have to switch your text plan.
You can keep the 200 texts for $5 if you have it now. You will be grandfathered just like the unlimited data plans.

There is NO five gig cap on the smartphone data plan. There just isn't. People who say there is one are simply and completely wrong.
Utterly incorrect. There is no cap, soft or hard. Just don't be a complete idiot about things (which is true with anything in life). I have exceeded five gigs several times. Never a problem. Read the terms of service - there is no cap.
Every damned thread somebody brings that up, completely bereft of any actual knowledge, but dammit THEY READ SOMETHING ON THE INTERNET SOMEWHERE.
I will bet you that verizon offers free tethering with the iPhonethey do with android, so why not? Android users use more data on average anyways.
Rumor has is that they will only offer the unlimited data package for a limited time. Rumors are funny because we never know which one is actually true.
That is what they said, it also says that under the facts on the iphone page on their site too. So I am fairly certain we are in for a treat, and not a good one.
(If that is actually true, that's another +1 for AT&T. I've yet to have them not grandfather a plan of mine in. The only time I had to change was when we changed the plan into my roommate's name cause he got a discount. Which basically was me ending my plan and him starting a new one).
I've never not had Verizon grandfather a plan as well. It's one thing to "reserve the right" in writing. It's another thing to actually exercise that right. But grandfathering is different than what you are talking about.
But on EVERY carrier I've had, the way they get around that is by saying "if you want feature X..." AT&T did this with tethering. AT&T did this with the iPhone 3G.
NO carrier is innocent when it comes to this. It's common practice in the industry.
But I mean even when I changed phones they let me keep my old voice plan.
What it sounds like that person was suggesting was that if you get the new phone, you have to get all new/different plans even if you already have a data plan/voice plan (I mean it's not like they are even 4G plans, they are still 3G data plans).
Yes, and AT&T did the same when you switched from the first iPhone to the iPhone 3G. It is a possibility, but I don't think a probability. I never trust what those CSRs say. If they don't know an answer the guess and make crap up.

Well if Verizon does offer an unlimited plan than its pretty safe to bet that AT&T will reinstate theirs. And if the mobile hotspot is free then you can bet AT&T will do the same.
That is very true.
A big percentage of customer service reps if they dont know something they just guess and make things up as they go. If you ask if they're sure they insist and become defensive.
Dont listen to what they say, wait till an official announcement is made.
