Because for those of us with 9-5 jobs, going to the store is actually a simpler process than waking up, pre-ordering, and then driving out to some FedEx package center to get our phone.

If FedEx and UPS would stop with the ridiculous "we only do home deliveries while regular people are at work" policy, maybe I'd consider doing the ordering thing.

As is, if I have to drive to do something, I may as well just go buy it at the store.

I just use my work address for deliveries. Simpler for everyone.

Why would you still want an iPHone 4?

I don't understand consumers. Why would you want:

1. An iPhone 4 when not only is the iPhone 5 coming but there are more powerful phones out there already.

2. The Verizon iPhone 4 still suffers from the DEATH GRIP! See for yourself: goo.gl/zhttN

Talk and Surf

I have been waiting years for the iPhone to come to Verizon. I would never leave Verizon as they have the best coverage and way less dropped calls in my area. I mean isn't this a phone we are talking about? I don't get the big deal with talking and surfing at the same time. If I want to do that I better be sitting down somewhere and not in my car. And if I am sitting down somewhere not in my car it is usually in an area that has wifi and then I could talk and surf ( Not that I ever would). It's great if that feature is important to you but to say the Verizon iPhone stinks and AT&T is better because of it is just silly and probably just makes you feel better. Anyway, enjoy the phone you have. I ordered mine at the Apple site on the 3rd and got it on the 7th.( From China ). I am very happy. I would never wait on a line for anything when I can order from home and get it fast. I just had to get that out. Tired of all the bashing about Talking and Surfing. :)

The same question has been valid for the past four years, which is how long peope have been buying iPhones over halfway through their model cycle, while ignoring more powerful phones.

At least Apple is happy they did.

:)

I think some of you may have missed the most critical reason why there are no lines and people doing all the crazy stuff upon a release:

Not eligible for an upgrade.

I want the iPhone but I (and many of my friends) refuse to pay full price for the phone because we are in the middle of a contract cycle.

Seriously, who is going to shell out 700 for a phone that can be had for 200 when our contracts are up in a few months.

I think that is a big factor. If Big Red would have "waived" contracts and let us sign on for another two years at the reduced price then lines would be down the street.

I agree. I was fortunate that I was do for a new phone under the New every 2 program. As much as I love the iPhone i would never pay the full price.

You have hit the nail on the head my friend.

Dumped Sprint (terrible signal at home and at work) and switched to Verizon yesterday, but not for the iPhone. I have no reason to pay more than $10/month for phone service, few people ever call me and I rarely call anyone else. Instead of the iPhone I got an LG Accolade flip phone and a prepaid (pay on the days you use it) plan. What I would rather have it a iPod Touch with a 3G/4G data service for $20/month that I can use with Google Voice to make and receive calls. Paying $70+ a month for phone/text/data is ridiculous.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_6 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8E200 Safari/6533.18.5)

I gotta say - been using the Verizon iPhone all day and much of last night and I'm amazed by how much BETTER the call quality is over ATT

Zero dropped calls and everyone, on the other end, thinks I'm calling then from a landline - a HUGE improvement from ATT, whose calls usually sound weak

Lastly - data speeds on this Verizon phone are excellent - guys, I'm just gonna have to forget about Talk and Surf because Verizon is my new regular phone!

This is not a "failed Apple product launch." The iPhone 4 launch was last June. This was just a launch on a new network. Big difference there. I'm not buying all this "failed launch" stuff. Wait for the numbers. We already know that it broke all Verizon's sales records last week. And today it was available at many more places than it was when it was first released.

I agree here. I think people expected too much, it's not a new phone, most people who really wanted it already have it. And most of them probably will wait out their contracts before changing over (most people it's not gong to be worth the ETF fee just to change).

I think where the numbers are to be expected are from Verizon's customers they already have who wanted an iphone but weren't willing to compromise carriers, and those who hated AT&T so much it was worth a decent chunk of money to change *now* (I doubt that's really a high percentage. I bet most people who dislike AT&T at least are willing to wait to save hundreds of dollars).

Add in that in a few months there will probably be a new iphone, you also add in a temptation to those who would have bought to just wait a few months.

So, I don't think this is indicative at all of how good the phone is or how much people like or dislike verizon/AT&T.

Yep. It's only lines for those who waited for Verizon. A lot of them aren't going to be out there first day. And to tell the truth, where I live, you'd be a fool to want to wait on anything outside right now. The temperatures are extremely cold out here, for most people.

I agree! I wasn't eligible for an upgrade but my husband's line was, so I used his upgrade (he said it was okay :) ). I would not have paid full price for the phone.

Well, I got my iPhone 4 at last, and I couldn't be happier. I never went with AT&T, so I could not use an iPhone until now.

Why didn't I wait for iPhone 5? Because the big change will be the iPhone 6 in 2012, and that's when I will upgrade.

What about the death grip? Yes, what about it? I can't get it no matter what I do, so it's a non-issue for me.

Perfection in industrial design is finally in my hands. It is the perfect phone.

And by the way, you know where I picked up my iPhone? The 5th Avenue store in the picture on this story. Of course the photo was taken while it was still dark out (as can be seen in the photo), so it was taken before you could show up and get the iPhone. Nobody seems to have noticed that. All those people jumping up and down saying "Verizon FAIL" are ignoring this.

When I picked it up the place was packed. When I get my name to the greeter, he looked it up on his iPad and I saw him scroll past hundreds of names to find mine. So that one location, hours after they had started selling, still had a list hundreds long of those coming to pick up their reserved copy. There may not have been any lines, but they were selling tons of them that day.

Lol don't they know? Waiting in line for an iPhone is only cook when it's the "new" iPhone model.... Lol. Come june there will be folks camping for day for the new iPhone.... And as usual I will wait 6 months to get mine and jailbreak it immediately

Verizons somewhat soft sales can be summed up in one word:

Android.

No, it can be summed up in two words: Bad reporting.

Let's wait for actual numbers to be released before we start passing judgment on how the sales were.

That is only true if the folks that were maybe gonna get a Verizon iphone actually got an Android phone.

many of them likely didn't. The short lines could just as easily be due to folks deciding to order online and avoid the fuss. Remember this was a Thursday, many folks might have had to be at work and couldn't wait all day or be out all night before hand. Another reason to order online.

And out of the ATT folks that might switch only those with the most horrid service are likely to pay out a fairly sizeable ETF to make the switch. The rest will wait until they are done with their contract or at least down to a more reasonable amount. Which for most will fall during the summer, right when a new iphone is being released on ATT for sure and hopefully Verizon also. Double win for waiting.

And all of which are reasons that had nothing to do with Verizon
