Several questions have arisen. Will the future release of an iPhone (5) be compatible with any network a user joins (Verizon, AT&T ,etc)? Also, will the new iPhone release be 4G ready or compatible when 4G expands? We know that the Verizon iPhone 4 is not 4G and existing iPhones in the AT&T network cannot port over to the Verizon Network. This is confusing and there is lots of money at stake here from a user perspective.

It may be confusing, but U.S. consumers should be used to it. First, almost all U.S. phones are sold locked, so they can't even be switched for use on a technically compatible network. Second, you've never been able to take any sprint/verizon phone and use it on at&t/t-mobile (with the exception of a couple "world" phones with both chipsets).

What are you saying? Will Apple create two different iPhones with different features on each depending on what carrier you have?

No, two different iPhones with different radios, but the same features, being released on 2 different cycles. This is a theory a lot of us share as it allows Apple to spread the demand out. If they launch both a Verizon and AT&T iPhone at the same time, it will be mayhem! :p

Nope!

And when iPhone 5 is announced for both carriers in June, won't you feel silly for having waited all this time only to have jumped in prematurely?

>>>>Dude, the iphone5 in June 2011 WONT be a Verizon phone...no way, no how.

Verizon customers would cause a RIOT if they sign up for a 2 year contact in Feb, then have to shell out 600$ in June for the iphone 5. Not gonna happen.

What will happen in my opinion is: June 2011 AT&T iphone5 , then in Feb 2012, Verizon iphone5 and all users who bought the Verizon CDMA iphone in Feb 2011 are now eligible for the upgrade price since they have had the phone for a year. Many will upgrade, me being one of them. Maximum sales for Verizon that way.

Why won't it? Apple prides it's self on the ease of the software which I'm sure iOS 5 will be able to run on iPhone 4. I doubt Verizon wants to be behind AT&T in terms of getting new handsets. Besides this isn't a "new" handset. It's just for a different carrier. I say both Verizon and AT&T announced this Summer.

If you have a 1 year contract with Verizon, then you'd be able to upgrade then. But A) That means when you buy the VZW iPhone in Verizon, you're paying more than the prices they announced (they were for a 2 year contract), and B) If you sign a two year contract with Verizon when you buy the iPhone in Feb, then you will NOT be eligible for the discounted rate until December 2012- two months ahead of your contract ending date.

I think apple will break the trend this year of introducing a new iphone each june. i think in june they will offer iOS5.0, and maybe A 64GB iphone 4, perhaps special colors like a iphone 4 in red for vzw and orange for att but that is it. I don't think apple's iphone assembly line can handle the VZW iphone 4 demand plus iphone 5 production...........
Besides VZW will be pissed if att gets the iphone 5 before them, and vzw is now much to large to piss off...................

I'll eat my words on Apple never producing a CDMA phone but that is a nightmare

this basically makes the iOS notification system useless. You will get flooded with notifications each time you get off the phone.

I'm not sure I would ever want to trade that off, along with Verizon upping their upgrade limit from 12 mo to 20.

VZW will let you renew you contract each year to get the latest and greatest iphone 5, just like att has done in the past.

I believe that the iPhone Apple has created for Verizon will only resemble the current iPhone 4.

Inside it will be the benefactor of corrections to all the faults wrong with the GSM iPhone 4. Apple is very smart & clever. They recognize this as a priceless opportunity to claim all the problems with the iPhone 4 were AT&T's fault.

The phone Apple supplies to Verizon will be Apples finest ever.

It will make Apple & Verizon look good. In turn it will further fuel, the fanboy & zealots "I told you so remarks". The gloating, bragging, and glowing reports will go on and on about the holier than thou Steve Jobs, and the miracle known as Apple Inc.

If by some rare occurance the launch is anything other than perfect, Verizon will receive as much sympathy and forgiveness as ever witnessed on a forum. If the iPhones performance is anything sort of perfect, it too will receive one billion excuses. "well it's the first CDMA iPhone" and on and on the sympathy will flow. This is a win/win scenario for both Apple & Verizon no matter what happens.

Once again Apple will sell mind blowing quantities and benefit from their one, true, undeniable skill: the ability to sell anything Apple.

just wait and watch you will see

Haha and every other big phone manufacturer(Samsung, HTC, LG, Motorola) for Verizon releases a phone almost every 3-4 months...does that change Verizon's mind?

You all think Verizon is going to bend over and take it because Apple is bringing the iPhone to them...Verizon got big without the iPhone and they don't need the iPhone to stay big.

And Apple doesn't need to release an iPhone every year, what else can be put in it? All they have to do is release a new iOS and your good, not much can be done with hardware anymore...
