I shot a quick video, Holding the phone in my left hand as I would as if it's against my ear, you can see the bars drop to 1, I let go towards the end of the video and they shoot back up. This time the call didn't drop but my previous test the call failed

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mapJbaeDSWQ

shouldn't the signal drop happen a little faster than that if it were in fact from the death grip? You don't think it could have anything to do with all the stuff running around the phone like your computer and the camera creating some interference?

I know nothing about cell signal so I am asking these questions seeking a legit response. If the answer is "no" to both of those questions then that might worry me.

well mine is supposed to be delivered today, but due to the address not being complete on the order form. i have to wait until 7:30 when the driver gets back to pick up the package from the office. oh well.

fyi guys, I just activated my new iPhone, called my wife, held the phone in my left hand to my ear as I normally do with the Incredible, signal dropped down to 1 bar and dropped call, I "may" get a bumper or simply return it and wait to see if they fix this in June.... So disappointed in Apple

pics?

Huuuuge problems

Here we go, iTunes got into an infinite loop during activation of Agreeing to TOS. I unplugged it, everything appeared fine, and then my phone can't activate. Verizon will "call me back in 30 minutes" with a solution, but my ESN didnt get transferred over....

I have been working with tech support since 10:30 am. I still don't have my iPhone working. Turns out when it activated, it activated the data and not the voice. So my droid can make calls, and my iphone can browse the web but neither can vice versa.

After talking through, and I kid you not, 3 verizon reps, and 2 tech support people, one who cycled me back to the first verizon rep, the second tech assured me after spending 2 hours with me on the phone that I had to go in store and said hed call me back in 30 minutes after talking to them.

He never called me back, I went in store to activate. They have all had no training on the iPhone whatsoever. I called tech support FROM THE STORE and they informed me my voice ESN did not transfer but my data did and they are going to level 4 or something technical people to get it fixed. I then had to drive home and wait for a call. Its been an hour and he gave me an invalid phone number to call him back at. Im about to get upset

guys, you might as well move along, LOL

I posted to let people know that were curious if it exists, there were still questions, I answered them, fanboys try and defend but its obviously still an issue with some phones.

I will head to apple and see what they say and maybe get a nice case.

Sucks! The fed-ex guy came at 9:00 am and I left to do something quick and when I came back,he came 10 minutes after I left!Fed-ex never gets to my house earlier than 11 am EVER and today it does!Oh well,I have to wait until 4 to pick it up at Fed-ex.

I think most of what you say sounds about right, except the part about the antenna. Nobody recalls a product that does not pose a safety or health hazard. The word "recall" is a bit overused these days.

By and large, Antennagate was nothing more than a press fantasy to create a story where the was not much of a story. I'm sure that because of it, there will be some minor improvements in antenna design, but iPhone 4 still has highest customer satisfaction rating and lowest return rate of any iPhone, and it has sold more units -- that's kinda hard to ignore.
I think the biggest antenna improvement that Apple has made is in the U.S. is creating an iPhone with a CDMA antenna. Folks are pretty unanimous saying the voice quality on Verizon is audibly better.

How's that kool-aid taste? You seem to have had plenty..

No Problem with Antenna's Here :)

I have tried the death grip and only lost one bar, have not less then two bars on the device and that was inside a building. Very Happy so far.

Humerous that the verizon iPhone has one bar less reception than the AT&T one....

anyone compare their screen to at&t, looking at my at&t and verizon iphone 4 it looks like the verizon screen is a little bit on the yellow side and not as clear

It's called quantitative data. Look it up.

It's also personal experience with several test units. You seem to be enjoying the Kool-Aid the blogs and press like to put out. Nobody likes a winner -- the best story is the one that tears the winner down.

Never had that problem with AT&T iPhone activations :)

Mine has been delivered to my house, according to Fedex. Now for the workday to end...

Not bad...went from Ontario, CA to Oakland and back again for some reason, before it went on to Honolulu...

Failed attempt at humor I suppose?

Nope. Just pointing out how purile and ridiculous the MacRumors forum has often become over the last year or so.
I get the initial excitement for new owners but let's move on folks. And PLEASE spare us the front page thread about people buying their new Verizon phone in store when they go on general release. Almost certainly to be accompanied by photos of someone waving an iPhone box in the air. Lovely, but it's not really news anymore.

The verizon iphone will be kept up-to-date on the same release dates from now on as any att phone. Not only that the current verizon iPhone actually has a chip that supports GSM, and CDMA if you open it up. Technically if you had a soldering iron, and some jailbreak you could put a sim in your CDMA iphone as well…

So yes the phones are already shipping with chipsets that can be used by both phones already today.

LTE=iPhone 2012

iPhone 5 June 6th. Same antenna as Verizon but different innards. Will have NFC.

Apple avoids recall of at&t phone by "discovering by chance" a better GSM antenna as well.

Not clear on Verizon 5 yet. Depends if the 5 is truly Dual Band or not. Good chance it will be a "World Phone".

Definitely no LTE till 2012. It simply is not ready for prime time yet.:apple:

Bars mean nothing. My job is to develop sites for mobile phones. I have about 40 mobile phones sitting on my desk right now. As an iPhone user on ATT I can tell you that all verizon phones have superior voice by a mile. Everytime I use one of the work verizon phones (on plenty of trips) I know when I'm calling an ATT user because the voice quality is so terrible and lots of background hissing that as an ATT customer you never noticed until you get to use a verizon phone.

If you want a phone that sounds clear for calls, then get a verizon one. If you really need (a feature I've used only once, to be on a call and open a web page) then get an ATT phone.

Just realize that verizon does have a better coverage map, better voice quality (trust me, just ask any of your friends who have verizon to make a call with there phone, it reminds me of a good landline)

My point is this thread turning into a VERIZON vs. ATT thread is stupid and pointless. There both freaking Apple iPhones.

If you don't have the EXACT SAME phone on ATT and Verizon then you are not in a position to comment on the quality of service. PERIOD.

As all the reviews have stated, that the verizon was superior for voice in every SINGLE test performed.

As an ATT iPhone user, I'll keep my att iphone, but I also have a verizon iPhone on the way. Since I develop for both carriers we always optimize for network speeds, and personally i like the hotspot feature that some of the android phones have (but with terrible battery life)

So stop the fighting about verizon vs. as att. They both work equally well, they both are iphones…

The ATT phone in the picture has more bars.

Lucky! Mine has been "On FedEx vehicle for delivery" status since 10:26 AM and still no delivery... is there only one truck driving around? lol
