i love how agressive verizon is.

the at&t early termination fee for an iphone 4 is around $225 at this point after 7 months (325-70). with the trade-in they are offering people will save $105 or $55 on their brand new verizon iphone 4. not bad at all. well played verizon.

this just means better service and prices for the future of the iphone.

If Verizon really wanted to be aggressive they would pay for my AT&T ETF and just do a strait swap of my AT&T iPhone 4 for a Verizon iPhone4 and waive the activation fee. :D

I don't believe that's correct. There would be no reason to limit the quantity on pre-orders then. Also, remember, the pre-orders are available to existing VZW customers only. If you end up selling your iPhone after getting it, VZW will charge you retail pricing for it. I doubt then you'll make much profit from your sale on eBay.

With other preorders I've seen on Verizon, they're shipped overnight the day before everyone else gets access to them.

In other words, my guess is we'd get them on the 10th.

This is partly so people won't be selling them ahead of time on eBay etc. The first ones will be sold out for weeks, and the ones people do get will command a premium at first.

I just went on Verizon's site and went to the Trade-In Program section and it appraised my iPhone 4 32gb at $285 well under what was quoted here.

What's up with that?

Why is it a 3am order start? Just curious why they don't do their biggest launch ever during normal waking hours.

Probably because most normal people are asleep around that time (even on the West Coast), and this should help reduce the chances of crashing the servers. Of course, we're talking about the iPhone and Apple fanatics, who aren't your normal type of folks, so I think you'll see a repeat of the AT&T iPhone pre-ordering fiasco. And this board will be full of angry people who couldn't get through, are on hold with Verizon, wondering if their pre-orders got in before the cut off time, when the phone will be delivered (a day early, on the release date, a day late...), etc.

In other words, the same crap that those of us on AT&T went through last June. It should be quite amusing. :)

Has anyone else noticed that the Verizon iPhone 4 phone that apple has on their homepage still has the normal Phillips screws in em?

To switch or not to switch...

Cost-wise, our deal with AT&T makes the most sense for us. Basic minutes, 200 texts each, and minimum data plan. However our reception is spotty at best, and all but non-existent on the first floor of our home.

We've had VZ in the past, and my wife was a big fan. We'd be paying a bit more, but with what's being offered it might be worth it. Decisions, decisions...

they are doing just what you are asking for AND making you save money on your new iphone 4. that's what i explained above.

Where are you seeing this? I see nothing on the FAQ that mentions Visual Voicemail.

I don't see it anywhere in the FAQ either... it mentions how to save existing voicemails, but it says nothing about visual voicemail on the iPhone.

Sorry I was thinking of what I saw an Apple's website while they had all the details up there the other day. But yeah while the information was online it said that visual voicemail would be free. Sorry for the wrong link my bad. :)

Yeah, so went to http://www.gazelle.com/ and got offered $360 for my i4 16gb. Looks like they're offering $420 for the 32gb. Rate is locked in, and have 30 days to send it off to them.

All things considered it's a pretty good deal for the minimal amount of hassle involved.

Not sure what you're talking about. Please do not top-post. In a discussion, you quote what you're replying to, then place your reply. Thanks!

Verizon won't charge you unless you don't keep a data plan.

Many people, like myself, already have a smartphone with a data plan.

So we often get a discounted upgrade device, sell it, and keep using our original smartphone. Verizon doesn't care what you're using as long as you're paying for the data plan.

theres gonna be a lot of traffic on the site im affraid i might not get one ahhaha
but still have the decision to make on whether i should get the 16gb or 32gb...hmmm decisions decisions

For some people 16GB is more than enough, but I think 32GB might be the better option here. Actually for me 64GB would probably be better based on my experience with my 3rd gen iPod Touch which has 64GB. The capacity on my iPod Touch was down to 25.6GB (from 59.2GB max. capacity) when I decided to do an "experiment" recently. I deleted stuff that I felt I didn't really need with me all of the time (videos) and increased the capacity up to 38.5GB which would be 8.5GB on a 32GB iPhone. I think I could live with 32GB. However, I'm not sure what would piss me off more, seeing my iPhone replaced by a new iPhone (5) 4 months later that has a significantly improved GPU or one with 64GB capacity.

I'm starting to think that I may just go into a Verizon store and buy one on the 10th instead. I mean, if you preorder on the 3rd and they don't ship until the 10th anyway, what good is it? Sure, you save a trip to the store, but you have to keep hitting refresh at an ungodly hour in the hopes that you're one of the lucky ones that actually gets to place an order.

While I'm sure there will be lines at the stores, at least it's during normal business hours and you'll be able to walk out the door with the phone right away. This is assuming, of course, that they actually begin selling them in the physical stores on the 10th... do we know that for sure, or is it still going to be online-only on the 10th?

But, when the Storm was released to Verizon, existing customers were NOT allowed to get one from the store on day of launch, they had to be ordered and shipped, I know, because that happened to me. Will they pull that again on launch day in the stores? Make me wait and give the in store stock to NEW verizon customers?

Wow. What a lame comment.

I mean I know how you feel I am an apple fanboy, but wow way to stereotype.

But yes there will be many android customers switching to iOS

I take this insult as a complement. Glad I pinched a nerve of yours. Probably the most physical intimacy you had a in a while.

I think the trade-in values listed were a little optimistic. I just went through Verizons "Trade-in Appraisal" my 16gig iPhone 3G was worth $60. My Gz'one Boulder is worth $4. At $105 I was considering trading, but @ $60...Geez what a rip.

BTW - If you think you're going to waltz up to a Verizon or Apple store at a "human" hour on Feb. 10th and walk out with a Verizon iPhone...you're friggin nuts. I got my 3G 3 weeks after they were released. I got to the Apple store 2 hours before opening and there were over 80 people already waiting in line. I had wanted a black 8 gig, but ended up with a white 16 gig because that's all that was left by the time they got to me. It cost me $100 more, but I was done with waiting in lines. If you've never tried to buy an iPhone before...you're in for an experience. Black Friday Doorbuster Sales got Nothing on an iPhone Release!!

Actually...

ATT iPhone 4 32GB $367.15
ATT early termination fee $325 -$70 ($10 off each month of service) total $255
New iPhone 4 32GB from verizon $367.15
Verizon iPhone trade in -$360

Money lost if i switch to VZ $629.30

I will staying with ATT for a bit longer.

According to VZW's own website, it's worse than that. I believe in the article above those trade in prices are for corporate customers ("We not sure if this will be offered to non-corporate accounts"). When I went to VZW and chose my device--an iPhone 4 32GB (that's less than 90days old, btw)--and in perfect working condition, they only go as high as $285. I've tried several different combinations of the questions they ask, and you aren't getting anywhere near $360 for that phone; $285 is the most. Oh, and in the Ts&Cs you are also waiting 3wks for said gift card. Hopefully for those that choose this, they are doing something in the stores where the trade-in value is more immediate (but that won't be Feb 3rd).
