So here's my 1st question...what is this going to end up costing me monthly? We have a family plan right now, and the total cost (including taxes and fees) is around $140. That's unlimited data for two Blackberrys, unlimited texts, and 750 minutes split between the two. We have a work discount of 22%.
When I switch, it's going to be $30 a month for unlimited data (which I like having) and $40 for the voice plan (the cheap one, which we may need more but not much more), and another, what? $10 for unlimited texts? So I'm up to $80 a month just for my phone?
Here's my 2nd question: What exactly counts as a text? For instance, twitter messages and facebook notifications...I have both apps on my phone, but are these counted as texts?

Thanks for the help! As I said, I have no technical knowledge, so your help is appreciated!

1. That seems to be right, except Verizon charges $20/month for unlimited texts. Data plans are only for one iPhone. Your family plan for voice for both phones would be the same, which I think is $70. Data would be $30 for each phone.
2. The only thing that counts as texts are actual texts––i.e messages that you get in your Messages app via your phone number. Any other app uses your data plan. I use an app called Textie for free texts. Works great, especially if you have friends that use it.

Thanks for the info! I will have to check out Textie..may save me some $$.

I didn't want it to seem like I was complaining about costs. I just want to get a good idea of what this will be cost me in the next few months so I can update our budget (yes, we use a written budget. We're old fashioned I guess) and not shock hubby when the VZW bill comes! :)

My husband isn't due for an upgrade until June, and I'm not sure he will go for the iPhone. I bought him an iPod Touch for Father's Day and he rarely uses it. I'm eligible for the upgrade now, and I spoke to our corporate rep (actually educational rep since I work for a university) who confirmed my $50 credit can be applied to the iPhone. I swear the credit used to be $100, but maybe I'm mis-remembering.
If my husband just goes with another Blackberry, our bill may not be much higher than it is now. We'll see though.

Thanks again for your help!

LOL. All the Verizon fanboys were having orgasms over the hotspot. They actually thought Verizon cared about them.

I'm on AT&T, I never expect them to give a crap what I want.

The hotspot has cost more money ever since a Verizon phone got it...what dont you understand? Is it that difficult to grasp? THEY HAVE CHARGED FOR HOTSPOT SINCE IT CAME OUT, it has nothing to do with the iPhone whatsoever.

Just another AT&T fanboy that has no idea what your talking about.

What did you expect? None of these companies in the US give anything away until they have too. But, it will come I'm sure as pressure builds for them to be competitive.

Indeed. why would they suddenly give it away for free now?

Dear Verizon,

Here is your chance to steal back millions of AT&T customers (who have left you since 2007). So far, I am not impressed. All you need to do is to offer the same service at a cheaper price (the same price for a slower network and for no concurrent voice/data won't convince me to come back). Every marketing announcement, thus far, has been about higher prices.

Verizon has always charged a premium for their services because for many the service is paramount and is better than its competitors.

And AT&T is $45 for 2gb for everything, stop spouting your crap.

I dont understand why he would assert that AT&T is cheaper. The numbers clearly show otherwise.

Turning a profit is one thing.

Outlandish corporate greed is another.

If it were up to Apple, every iPhone owner would pay them $50 a monh for unlimited iPhone usage. Thats unlimited everything. And they would still profit greatly.

If it were apple they would charge as much as the market would bear and you wouldnt be complaining. Instead you would likely say something like "If you dont like it, dont buy it"

Ever stop to think that not everyone lives where you do douche? AT&T is crap for 98% of rural America. We get it that AT&T is a great network for YOU. Now move along and stop trolling the Vz threads.

BTW, you said that the Vz iPhone was going to happen when?

You can always count on him to come in and bash Verizon. I am with AT&T for various reasons, but I dont see what one gains by trashing a competitor carrier all day long.

Man

You need to find a better employer (a) not giving you the tools - data and (b) not respecting your RDOs

I work in IT and have to deal with24x7 on-call. My employer will not pay directly for anything like cell/Internet service; it has to be expensed and they made that process so painful, I just don't do it.

So, I'm out with the family with no wi-fi hotspot provided. I get paged and have to work on a server. With MyWi, I can fire up my laptop and fix it on the spot. Without MyWi, I get to abandon my family (most likely making them miss out on whatever it is we're doing since we'd be in the same car), and drive to the office.

Some people just feel better putting things down, makes them feel better I guess.

I hope for 2 things, the iphone on every network and when verizon kills the unlimited (limited time only on their site), the throw in the hotsot for your regular data. Not holding my breath, but it's good to dream.
