They all charge ridiculous amounts. So far only one lets you make actual phone calls.
But Not while you are using data.

Sorry, but that argument is null to me as I can make calls and hear people and they hear me perfectly fine.
In fact, it's the Verizon folk I can't hear.
But Not while you are using data.![]()
Not sure if someone already said this, didn't want to read through all the pages, but on Android you can just download the Hotspot Widget for free. I use it on my LG Optimus S.
Work in Montana where we have no ATT service!
I have free wi-fi hot-spot with TMo and my myTouch4g.
I hear eventually they will adopt a similar plan, which will oddly coincide with my installing PDANet or whatever so I CAN USE THE DATA I'M ALREADY PAYING FOR.
Got rid of my iphone and got a Nexus S on Tmobile. No contract. Pay As You Go. 10cents a minute on calls (i barely make calls). Unlimited internet $1.50 a day when i need it (there is wifi everywhere where i live). Free tethering and hotspot service.
I have spent no more than $20 this month so far. And i don't see why i should let the two biggest telco's try and suck me dry out of my money. Good riddance.

Depends on the Android device...LAME.
but not unexpected.
Do android useres have to pay more for hotspots?
Iphone users live in a whole different world
I guess I will stick with my unlimited data at AT&T, if I have to pay extra $20 for tethering, I won't entertain switching to Verizon.
Somehow I love AT&T again![]()
In that simple scenario, there is no real difference. However, in real life, with real users, the average mobile user uses much, much less than their allotted 2gb/month. However, when the average user gets a hotspot, he uses much, much more than he otherwise would have. The pricing model is based on the average user, not a user who uses exactly the amount allowed on his data plan. By definition of "average", this is what determines the total cost (average is the total sum divided by the number of users).
s. I know this is confusing, and really, it's the mobile companies fault for creating this mess where no one seems to understand the cost structure.
I'm happy with my 50 a month account with t-mobile, iphone 4 factory unlocked, jailbroken, mywi, unlimited text and web on edge.
Sidenote, texting... texts are just data, so I use Google Voice, which treats them as such. If I didn't have to have a voice plan, I'd only purchase data and use GV for everything.
Don't tell me there isn't collusion going on with Verizon, AT&T the the rest of their ilk.
The Verizon hotspot is free with the Palm Pre Plus.
Having to pay for stuff sucks. At&t and Verizon have spent billions building out their networks. How dare they ask us to pay for it.
Why would someone connect 5 devices to a Verizon 3g? Your bandwidth would grind to a halt.
I pay for 2GB for use with the phone. But if I want to use this data I have already paid for, differently, then I have to buy all new data? Criminal, but not unexpected.
