usually when people see something that others don't it's a result of delusion...

Heh. Exactly what I was thinking about you.

I admire the level of tenacity with which you defend the Verizon iPhone rumors

Me, not so much. You're position seems to be mostly just wishful thinking born of a dislike for Verizon. As I've already stated, I would prefer to use AT&T because it works better than Verizon here where I live. I don't really have a dog in this fight. My cell phone is paid for me, I have an iPod Touch, and as of about 2 hours ago, a iPad 3G with at least 30 days of unlimited AT&T data. I'm good for now.

I forgot to mention, SAD*FACED*CLOWN is the one that used the phrase "Verizon Troglodytes" in a past thread. He apparently has an agenda so I wouldn't trust a word out of this mouth on the subject. Another one of the anti-Verizon iPhone commenters has admiting to owning AT&T stock and doesn't want to see the value go down.

So I'd guess that most of the arguing against a possible Verizon iPhone comes from those that have some sort of vested interest in AT&T. So you can pretty much ignore them.

I for one always provide my unbiased opinion based on lots of research on the subject. I've worked in the wireless industry and I keep up with the news and rumors very closely. With that in mind.....I don't know if we'll ever see a Verizon phone....but I highly suspect we will and it very well may be between Oct '10 - July '11 (the later the more probable.)

Many phones come in both CDMA and GSM flavors. In most other countries, the iPhone is no longer exclusive to one carrier. It's a probable reality that the same will happen here in the US. So I'd say you need to check yourself if you think someone's deluded.

I'm with you on doubting an announcement this WWDC, but to keep making absolute statements like you do about it never happening is just plain naive.

The iPhone has gone to multi carriers overseas because ALL those carriers use what standard?.....GSM...it's really that simple, why can't you understand that? I have absolutely no doubt that if Verizon used the GSM standard they would more than likely have iPhone on it's network by now

I do understand that. Never was confused about it.

Phones can easily have a CDMA radio in place of a GSM radio. What part of that do you not undestand?

what a silly conspiracy theory...I have no agenda and what would debating a rumor on a rumor site do for AT&T stock? I don't care if Verizon gets an iPhone or not because if they do droids will show up on AT&T's network...as an AT&T customer I have nothing to lose...you keep dreaming and continuing to rile the Verizon fanboys all you want...this summer a new iPhone will be released on AT&T's network exclusively...and your opinion is far from unbiased based alone on the definition of opinion...
unbiased opinion = oxymoron

I have no dislike for Verizon as a Company or it's customers..I am simply tired of debating this when OBVIOUS facts reveal that Apple is not interested in making a CDMA iPhone for the US... you and geckotek are the only regular contributors to this site that keep the Verizon rumors alive..let it go...the iphone will hit Verizon's network summer 2012..there..take my speculation and breathe hope into it

To use a phrase such as "Verizon troglodyte" proves you very much dislike Verizon or it's users for some reason. Based on this you seem to have a skewed opinion on the possibility of a Verizon iPhone. It's clear to me and probably others here in this forum.

I'm not "riling" fanboys. I've been one of the few standing left of center on this issue. I don't say it's not coming, because I don't know that. I don't say it is coming, because I don't know that. I state that it most likely will come at some point soon, but not this summer.

I've been here long enough and gone through the same rumor mill. My opinions are tempered based on this. And I have yet to call someone a troglodyte based on the carrier they use or defend.

Really?

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304370304575152242601774892.html

Articles like this are enough to cast a reasonable doubt on your "OBVIOUS fact" You need to look up the definition of the word fact because in no place has Apple once stated for a fact that they are not interested in making a CDMA iPhone.

wow this article which cites no specific sources says a Verizon CDMA iphone is in the works...this is an old article that was published before gizmodo exposed the latest iPhone that was obviously GSM... Apple is making CDMA iPhones for China Mobile more than likely...but I'll accept this piece of outsanding journalism you posted as fact, because evrything on the internet is true...I reverse my position VERIZON IS GOING TO HAVE AN iPhone ON IT'S NETWORK by 2011 because Reuters and WSJ say so...

johnny blaze says: Flame on!

Funny! :)

I couldn't care less who gets the iPhone, but the reasons I support AT&T are I've not had problems on the network and I get tired of the VZW whiners (guess that means I don't like VZW...NOT! ...I have VZW DSL) saying how crappy AT&T is. I almost wish VZW had got the iPhone first, so AT&T getting it might be a welcome change. However, VZW chose to not adopt GSM and do the CDMA one instead. Then VZW ran all their BS commercials making fun of Apple and AT&T.

There is your problem. It's either all one way or the other with you. You'll never admit a middle ground; never admit that you might be wrong.

I never presented this article as fact. I presented it as something that everyone should take into consideration regarding this subject. By no means does it mean that a Verizon iPhone is definitely coming. But the fact that they state a specific manufacturer has the contract to build it is big. Not something to blow off without thoughtful consideration. (But I admit...it could be false)

And I still don't understand why a GSM Gizmodo phone rules out a CDMA phone? We have all seen the code in OS 4.0 that there are 2 models coming. That could easily be a CDMA and GSM phone. I could be a premium model and a lower end model. Who knows? And show me where Gizmodo proved the phone to be GSM? I don't recall that part. (I do believe it most likely is...but a sim-card slot is not proof....just anecdotal evidence.)

And why do you argue in such a way? Why can't this be a friendly debate without the sarcasm and attacks? Just a presentation of opinion and rumor that we all find by various means. Perhaps it's because we are all tired of the Verizon iPhone debate...I agree; but it's no reason to act like "troglodytes". :p

It might help you to study up on CDMA vs GSM re: the evolution of the different phone systems in the US and the the FTCs distribution of spectrum licenses and how that all came about.

I was at Verizon today and checked out the Droid Incredible. Very nice. It was quick, smooth, and the screen was crisp and clear. If I was with Verizon and just had to have Verizon for a carrier I'd buy one. The iPhone is fixing to have some serious competition.

you don't think I'm being friendly? I have not insulted you in any of my posts, maybe a tad smart a$$ed but not insulting...yes I did coin the term "Verizon Troglodyte" but I didn't specifically call anyone that name...however if the shoe fits wear it (NOT SINGLING YOU OUT)...if Verizon does in fact get an iPhone I'll be the first to say "I was wrong". I'm not always right...who is? but using an internet article to validate this argument is not a good idea because we've read those same rumored reports from the same sources for three years...I'm sure it would make baby Jesus smile if we all had iPhones on our preferred networks...even if it's Cricket Wireless...just to reiterate my pposition: I don't care if Verizon gets an iPhone or not, becase I have an iPhone on the network I prefer, but at this point in time a Verizon iPhone seems highly unlikely...and if my tone seems harsh...I apoligize if you've been offended...seriously

I can't, for the life of me, understand why you persist in thinking that Apple couldn't or wouldn't build a CDMA iPhone. Truly baffling.

All evidence to the contrary. You NEVER tire of debating the likelihood of a Verizon iPhone.

So I know that Verizon most likely WON'T get the iPhone.. and I'm getting ready to switch to AT&T.. but if I took the SIM card from my VZW Blackberry.. would it work in the iPhone? Just a curious question I have.
I'll be getting the new iPhone this summer and I'm pretty excited! :D

Questions like this never cease to amaze me

Another iPhone on Verizon thread? People, it ain't happening (for a long time) so stop asking.

Everyone saying so is wrong and will eat crow by end of WWDC keynote. AT&T's reassurance of iPhone exclusivity runs strong, even so more with AT&T being the sole provider for 3G in the iPad.
the reason I started this thread was to ask if my SIM would work in the iPhone.. not rumors about a Verizon iPhone.;)
