Verizon is Down: iPhones Show 'SOS' Mode Due to Network Outage [Resolved]

iPhone 15 pro max running the latest iOS 26.3 beta is showing SOS. 10.5" iPad Pro cellular is okay.

If only cell coverage was a public utility and carriers didn’t have to fight for spectrum, and it was all available to everyone. It’s not like we rely on these devices for literally everything or anything like that.

You might be right about Verizon sucking and T-Mobile being best in Portland. I was there recently and there were a couple large very populated areas where I got zero reception on Verizon and couldn't so much as send an iMessage. Everyone around me had T-Mobile and had no issues. Very anecdotal, but supports your claim.

But the weird thing is I've gone there a lot over the years to the very same areas, and the last time was the first time I remember having any issues at all.
 
NYC area, iPhone 16 Pro -- no service since early this afternoon. My wife with an iPhone 13 Pro has service in the same house.

I can't even make a call with wifi calling turned on. What is the point of wifi calling if it doesn't work when the cell network is down???

I live in an NYC suburb. I had planned on changing carriers from Verizon back in 2020 but the condo in New Hampshire she was crashing at with her BF during the pandemic who was going to college up there only reliable carrier was Verizon.. so I stayed. Now I’m kind of stuck in the promotional cycle for phone payments. Damn it… who wouldn’t. My daughter just replaced her iPhone 14 that was breaking with a brand new iPhone 17 Pro max. Out of pocket cost.. $2.25 per month for 36 months (Yeah, of course sales tax was about $100 and then AppleCare was another $100+). They gave us an $1100 credit on a phone that traded in for $180. Her phone is the newest and is the lowest per month out of pocket ($81 over the 3 years). I think my 16 Pro Max is about $8/mo and my wife’s 13 mini is about $10 but it’s almost paid off and she has no plans to get rid of it.
 
My phone says SOS all day, but my wife's phone - same account with VZW - is working fine. Go figure.

16 and 17 eSIM affected more than older phones.
My iPad and car built-in VZ hotspot are fine.

We buy ours outright.
So when I told Verizon to eff off, new TMO sim took 5 minutes.

It normally does.
This is a bigger network issue than simply towers.
Someone wiped the eSIM-based database.
