Now I sell each burger for the reduced price of only $8, and only $5 for each ingredient or condiment.
The only difference is that before with Verizon the burger was $10 with all the condiments and now it's $10 with no condiments and $5 for condiments...but it's a better 'value' cause you get to choose the condiments you want.

This is probably a stupid question, but can someone explain to me about the hotspot data? Am I correct in my understanding that without the mobile hotspot "perk", I can't use my iPhone as a personal hotspot to connect my iPad or MacBook Air to my cellular data?

I am currently on a SUPER old Verizon plan (4GB of data a month, shared between 4 people). I hesitate to let go of it because I know I can use my phone to connect other devices if I need to without being charged an extra fee. I rarely need to...but it is comforting to know I can.
The base “Welcome” plan does not include any hotspot data at all. The “Premium Plus” plan includes 30GB of hotspot and the addon will add an additional 100GB for a total of 130GB.

Visible users are low priority unlike actual Verizon customers.
This is true on all MVNOs. You're literally a second-class citizen on the network. It's even that way as pre-paid vs. post-paid with the carrier itself when it comes to support. Sitting next to my dad (on T-Mobile Prepaid) getting put on a long hold to reach a customer service rep. Seemed very odd to me based on my own experiences, so I called them on my phone and got answered almost immediately (I'm post-paid with T-Mo). Tried to get help for my dad's issue and they told me they would need to send me to another dept for it.

I'm on a very old grandfathered plan with unlimited text and calling but virtually no high-speed data, it's much cheaper than the plans T-Mobile sells now. I could get a much better deal on Mint, but then I'd be on an MVNO and getting passed over when T-Mobile's own network is busy.

This cracks me up. I spend $74/mo on T-Mobile for three iPhone lines and an unlimited iPad data plan. If an iPhone goes over 2GB, it's $8 for unlimited. My bill is usually $82-90. I almost always go over, my wife does sometimes, and my grandparents on my third line never do.

I think I'm the only person left in the world with a dumb pipe affordable cellphone plan. Wish there was more of this still around. Bundling all of this crap is so stupid. Why in the living hell should my grocery delivery service ever be bundled on my cell phone plan?

It’s wild what you all pay for phone plans in the US. I currently pay 20 Euro 😅
8€ Prepaid. Unlimited messaging and calls (incoming too) + 4GB of internet here. I bet, many peoples will start crying now...

This is the reason why I ditched Verizon and contracts and have stayed with MNVO for the past 15 years. Verizon's billing is insane as well as other carriers like T-Mobile. I pay $15 month plus tax for 5GB of 5G from Mint Mobile and that data can all be Hotspot as well. In my area T-Mobile service is great.

I remember the days in the late 90's, trying to figure out my monthly phone blling with Sprint, NexTel, Verizon. It gave me a headache dealing with customer service trying to explain why my contract plan was a lot more the first two months.

Since switching to prepaid, I know my cost upfront, no games.

It's not a perk if it's paid for; it's simply a paid service. Also not sure I want things I might need to cancel tied to a cellular data provider. Although, people are more likely to stay subscribed for services they don't use if it's on auto-pay.

Perk example: T-Mobile Tuesdays. You pay nothing additional extra but can get discounts on things you otherwise might have purchased. e.g. MLB.tv.

Much too overpriced. They’ve fallen behind T-Mobile in network quality and are by far the worst of the big 3, on average.

And they still have the audacity to limit which spectrum your device can access on a per plan basis. That’s quite stupid, but then again, I’m not surprised. “You should subscribe to our higher priced plan for Ultra-Wideband access, that’ll provide a better network experience for you.” LMAO. AT&T and T-Mobile never charged extra for mid-band and mmWave 5G.

I have 5G UW for iPhone 13 Pro Max and an Apple Watch Cellular on Visible on discount for $40 a month (will probably go to $50 at some time). Sure, the customer service leaves something to be desired, but it's on the Verizon network and has been pretty good so far.

Tried Visible 3 times over the past 4 years.... most recently was last summer. I still can't get any usable service where I'm at and when I could, ping was high (usually 130ms+) and speeds were slow (no more than 3 Mbps). Visible users are low priority unlike actual Verizon customers.

I have a Verizon SIM through work and you could have fooled me that they're high priority. I sometimes just straight up have no internet even though I have two or more bars.

$80/line/mo., before taxes & fees, seems crazy to me. I have tried every major US carrier and VZW, for me, was the most expensive. I had a Palm Tree 650 (at the time, the closest thing to a Mac-friendly smart phone) on VZW for the two years leading up to the '07 iPhone launch. Been with AT&T since. And not that it's staggeringly better, but I pay $60/line/mo. (before taxes & fees) for unlimited 5G + hotspot (which I've used maybe twice). Looking to add a line (teenager) only raises my bill $15/mo. Which - all things considered, I was pleasantly surprised it wasn't more. And this isn't d-measuring contest: I'm sure there are some out there getting way better deals. Great for you. I'm simply sharing rates of another major US carrier. Carry on.

Now I am debating about the 2 line Unlimited Plus at $70 a line with no perks. Am I crazy? I split a lot of other services with friends and family so I don't need a bundle from Verizon.

I'd just go with T-Mobile, taxes are included which allow you to spend in some cases 15-20% less. Gone are the days of Verizon having the best coverage. That was all CDMA and 3G days, which are long past now.

I've been very tempted to move to T-Mobile a few times over the past few years, but their track record with data breaches doesn't give me confidence. I was with them up until the iPhone 5 came out and then moved to Verizon. Yes, I know any company can have a data breach and likely most of our information is "already out there" but still the amount they have had over the past few years is eye raising.
I had Tmo for years then moved to Chicago and got Xfinity Mobile. It was okay but nothing worthwhile and xfinity customer service is trash so I went back to Tmo and have had no issues at all. I love their coverage, speed, CS, etc. I pay I think $70 for the basic magenta plan and their international coverage/rates are great too.

Getting perks for other company services through my cell carrier was always kind of stupid. I have those perks and use most of those services, but I've always just subscribed to those services through the services. I guess I might switch. And if they charge a cheaper plan for a slower 5G connection, I will take that as well. Since I don't know any scenario where I've had where simple fast LTE speed wasn't enough on my phone.

I don't understand the need to bundle cell plans and unrelated services like Walmart+. I know someone who does this, and their Verizon bill is like $400/month for 2 people. 🤣 They "need" to have the top tier plan with all the options, even if they never use the features. It's like a self-admitted bragging rights thing for them. "I'm a Verizon customer, while you're just a lowly AT&T customer!" 😳 😅

Former Verizon unlimited customer here, switched to T-Mobile Essentials in June 2022. Yes, there's a difference in network speed, but there's also a $60 price difference, and for 2 people that's a big savings.

Highway robbery. Worst mistake I made going from t-mobile to Verizon. Verizon network is trash around Philly burbs.

I'm living/working in the Philly area and I can attest to this. Verizon used to be THE company with coverage in the Philly metro area. Most of the time I can't make a decent phone call from my second story office that's within view of the major Interstate carrying auto traffic from DC-NYC. And data? Forget it. Terrible, just terrible. I'm really NOT happy with Verizon. It's been a long time, but I'm considering T-Mobile or Firstnet through AT&T. A lot of people I work with have Firstnet and seem to have had a good experience with it. I currently get my emergency connectivity for phone calls through GETS/WPS

MVNO's are great when trying to save a buck. But to be blunt you become a second class citizen when you go MVNO. Your traffic takes a back seat when volume is high, you get lower tier access to customer support, etc.

You folks in the US sure get screwed. My plan in Rome, Italy is €19,99/month with unlimited data, voice, and messaging. 5G download speed approaches 1000 Mbps.
Most people here just don't consider prepaid. My phone service on visible (prepaid) is $25.

A lot of people's financial situation would be better if they did consider prepaid service. Instead they pay $120/mo per line so they can get "carrier deals" on phone hardware.
