Hahahaha ;).

I agree, I could be a great salesman if I worked at Verizon or Apple, but I'd hate having to lie to people just to make those sales.

I wouldn't think you would have to lie at Apple. Look at all the above and beyond customer service stories. Seems like you are paid to do a good job. Additionally, the products sell themselves.

You should have reported him to the district manager. At the store level these reps and the mgrs don't care, but once you get to the higher level managers they care about loosing longterm customers over an upgrade that would happen with 3 months.

That is true, I should have done that, but at that point in time, I wasn't even thinking of doing that. My goal at the time was just to help out that family and inform them that they were being lied to.

If I ever see it happening again, I will definitely report it to the district manager.

Verizon has already made a public statement that they will be getting the next gen iPhone on the same date as ATT. Besides now that Verizon has it, why would apple ever let them hold back what is sure to be a huge seller. Why would Verizon do that? Simple answer: they wouldn't/won't.

Reps are Sales people the goal is to sell you today as well as renew your contract with the carrier! Not tell you hey wait a few months see what happens or give you the chance to possibly go to another carrier or loose a sale to even another rep whenever you come back. Very few if any ATT or Verizon employees no if any just a few that Apple needs to talk to for hardware compatibility those people would be bound by threat and signed papers not to talk and by Apple Lawyers and Apple is not afraid to use those lawyers. the Store reps are the bottom of the barrel! ;)

AT&T is doing that exact same thing since last April. They've been telling customers that the new iPhone would arrive around spring 2012.
