Really?

Buy whichever has the better service coverage where you'll be using it.

Factor in the data service prices/terms when they're updated.

I'm not buying, but if i was buying without owning a 3G right now, I'd go with Verizon in a a heartbeat. ATT stinks the places i go.

However, I'd have to ponder it all if i was upgrading because I'm grandfathered into the unlimited on AT&T, soo, giving that up vs moving it to the new iPad would play into the decision.

If I got a 3G iPad it would be because I do a lot of traveling - if that were the case - I would go with Verizon.

If you travel only in the US...

Although I don't remember seeing a sim card slot so actually it seems the AT&T one want have a SIM card as an advantage...

So then it depends on where you will be using it primarily, and what their rate plans are.

Personally I just tether my iPhone.

Verizon's 3G is biblically slow, but I get coverage everywhere.

AT&T's 3G is slightly faster, but coverage is far more spotty.

If I were to buy a 3G iPad, I would buy a CDMA one. LTE would be far more desirable for me.

If I went with an iPad 3G, it would be AT&T.
Still deciding whether I need one or not.

t mobile has better coverage and speed than vzw and att in my city. i wish the tmo frequencies would change, or i wish apple would include a universal gsm radio.

As in you really should not assume why someone is asking a question. I'm grandfathered to the unlimited data plan so ATT for me. I pose the question just out of curiosity b/c it's an option not available when the original iPad launched and there has been much hullabaloo over Verizon entering the "i" world.

I can't seem to find the monthly pricing plans on att vs verizon. How much does the data plans cost?

Anyone find it odd they aren't putting up the data pricing yet?

We might be in for some surprises! I.e. no more $25 for 2GB, somewhat reasonable plans?

I sure don't want $60 plans.

Currently, Verizon has unlimited 3G data for $30 and AT&T has a 250MB plan for $15 and a 2GB plan for $25.

There are rumors going around that Verizon will bring in tiered data plans soon, but that is the current pricing for smartphones and tablets.

I just checked out Verizon pricing for iPad 1. They have something called MiFi 2200 that has to be hooked up with iPad1 so it can access Verizon network. Lowest price is $20 for 1 GB. No info on iPad2 3G pricing. Price for 16 GB iPad1 and MiFi 2200 is $629. I assume that was before today and iPad2 announcement.

Where I live, AT&T and VZ both get great coverage, and from my experience AT&T's 3G speeds blow Verizons out of the water. Most of my friends that are on VZ will agree with that as well. If you have decent AT&T coverage where you live, id say go with them and not look back.

I was completely wrong. I had forgotten about tablet data pricing. Check out the Xoom's 3G pricing for more info on what the plans for the iPad 2 will look like:

$20 - 1GB
$35 - 3GB
$50 - 5GB
$80 - 10GB

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 3GS: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148a Safari/6533.18.5)

ATT for me. I've had good customer service from them, the network is good in my area and the ATT tower is 1 mile from my home providing me with full strength all the time.

I have no use for VZW and have had horrible customer service with them in the past and in my area their network is much slower than ATT.

Not sure. Are you still able to go month to month with AT&T? Or did they get rid of that after the initial iPad release?

I think the Xoom has a 2 year agreement. Hope this isn't the case with the iPad. I don't want to be locked into a contract and have to pay every month.

My preference is a 7" 3G iPad for traveling, as a companion to my iPad 2 which stays at home.

However since Steve has turned his nose up, I'll be enjoying an Android 7" tablet.

Besides I still say if history is an indicator, he'll be eating his words at some point, then boast about how he created the magical & revolutionary 7" iPad.

Let's not be so quick to write off this size yet.

Time will tell.

AT&T coverage is fine where I am and I travel outside the US so CDMA is not an option.

Verizon or AT&T for iPad 2

Hi, I am getting iPad2 as soon as I can and with 3G. Which data provider would you suggest, my iPhone 4 works great on AT&T but if Verizon will have iPad2 in stores and AT&T not I will possibly take Verizon, so which one would you pick and why (besides price on data plans) ?
