any realize that once VERIZON starts carrying the iPhone in Jan, and Sprint in June 2011 that it will easily double or triple the number of iPhones in use, leaving Android in the dust

The MS Windows phone is like their KIN phone-DOA

Aaargh, more iPad "magic" nonsense.

hardly.

I will give them credit that they made it clear that it is NOT a Verizon ipad. but another device. So many of my friends were all "the iphone must be like any day now after all they have their own ipad". Way to pay attention folks

If anything, this could raise some doubts about a verizon iphone. there's no contract on the ipad so apple is free to make a true Verizon version. It's the same OS so adjusting for Verizon for the ipad would make it easier when a phone comes along. And the ipad has much more space to accommodate more than one antenna chip. So why didn't they make an actual Verizon ipad. THe only thing stopping them seems to be desire to deal with CDMA etc

Don't bet the farm or your soul on those dates. Particularly the Sprint on. THey are using Wimax not LTE like the rest so it is very possible there will not be a Sprint phone for a long while, if ever

People, if any of you are thinking about "upgrading" to MiFi, don't get yourself stuck in a 2-year contract with Verizon or Sprint or T-Mobile. Instead, use Virgin Broadband Mobile, which offers the EXACT SAME MiFi hardware... but with NO CONTRACT and NO MONTHLY FEES. Just pay as you go for unlimited Internet. And they use the Sprint network, which is completely reliable almost everywhere in America.

The Verizon deal, which requires you buy the package deal of a WiFi iPad *plus* the MiFi to get the rates that match the AT&T 3G iPad deal, does not require a two-year agreement. In addition to matching the price of the 3G iPad models, they also match the month-to-month activation that AT&T has with the iPad (except you can also use it with your MBP):

I'm not the biggest Verizon Wireless fan, but this is a pretty good deal given that it includes tethering for your other iDevices, where the AT&T plan doesn't.

Apple didn't release a "Verizon" CDMA iPad right now simply because they will probably be releasing the iPad 2 in January or February. It would be a mess if they released the CDMA iPad 1 right now when in two months people will be complaining that a newer CDMA iPad 2 is out and that Apple left them in the dust. So to alleviate that and to get Verizon on board, they hacked together this Mifi deal so that they can have some kind of partnership until the legit CDMA iPhones and iPads come out in January or February.

hahaha

I agree... Verizon does put a little thought in their commercials and spends a little money on their production.

I see Verizons' commercial on iPad as a life without walls and Windows and Apple and the iPad is not "walled in" as one might think!

Let's hope that V's network doesn't get congested and is wide open for Apple traffic, otherwise what will the AT&T bashers do?

And while speaking of AT&T bashers and to ALL the snide, snarky commenters that like to express, "at least it's not on AT&T"... Jeez, you got problems, we've heard you, over and over and over and over and over and over again... write to Steve, because no one here has the power to fix. However, being a first timer and brand new to AT&T, as an AT&T user, don't even pretend to speak for me, my iPad with AT&T service is just fine. Unlike you, I have no complaints and am quite satisfied with AT&T service! I hope one day you too can enjoy the benefit of the same customer satisfaction with what ever carrier you profess as being the best for your area and for your needs with whatever Apple product you use on it, that I am currently enjoying with AT&T right now. I really do!

I love that everyone loves to jump on the "bash AT&T" bandwagon. As far as I'm concerned I haven't had any problems with my service. If your iPhone/iPad service is THAT bad then don't buy the products and quit complaining so much. Even if Verizon does get the CDMA iPhone I'm still staying with AT&T not because of my contract but my service is fantastic. Sorry it can't be that great where all the whiny people are.

And so the verizon iPhone bubble just burst once again. Ouch, so true and loud though. The verizon people just don't get it, there will be no iPhone on verizon period! :p It would be nice if verizon did ever get the iPhone, competition is great for consumers, but I don't see it happening since verizon pissed Steve Jobs off from the get go ( and he never forgets anything ) :D and you know he's just laughing his a@@ off all the way to the bank!!!

Verizon introducing the iPad Wifi (no 3G) is like me introducing my grandparents

If anyone was stupid enough to let this whole Verizon iPad campaign push them towards buying a MiFi, shame on you.

Personally, I own 2. But I didn't buy them like a sucker so that my iPad can get cellular connectivity. My iPad actually has built in 3G, which is what it should be like.

I still cannot get over how Verizon is marketing a hack.

What a load of dung!

Does VZ hope to bamboozle people into thinking the iPad now has built-in VZ 3G with that kind of phrasing. "Now on Verizon"?? How is this any different than pairing iPad with a Sprint Overdrive 3G/4G, other than the insinuation that VZ's ad department seems to have better lawyers than Sprint's?

For that matter, you could pair it with one of Clear's 4G hotspots, or your Droid Incredible, or the HTC EVO 4G and Samsung Epic 4G from Sprint. And, by the way, for those with commitment issues, those last two options don't require another contract or an extra device -you just add the mobile broadband tethering/hotspot option to your existing cell plan. The best part: it's not exclusive to your iPad. $15/month for a paltry 250MB of AT&T 3G (or $25 for a crippled 2GB cap) that only your iPad can use, or $29/month for 5GB of 3G (or unlimited 4G) that any device with WiFi can use. With all the options availble for connecting an iPad to mobile broadband, you'd have to be a fool to settle for built-in AT&T that only serves the iPad itself.

And I know what you're thinking... I don't really need more than 250MB of mobile data. Keep an eye out for the first Facetime-capable iPad. Assuming Cap'n Cupertino doesn't enforce the usual (laughable) WiFi-only restriction there too, that $15 AT&T a la carte option ain't gonna cut the mustard.

The Verizon bundle with a WiFi iPad + Verizon 3G MiFi costs exactly the same as the 3G iPad with built-in AT&T 3G. Verizon is also effectively matching both the month-to-month contract terms and rate of the AT&T iPad data plan. No long-term contract required.

The 3G iPad with AT&T service has a built-in GPS chip and access to a potentially faster 3G network.

The WiFi iPad + MiFi from Verizon has a separate 3G MiFi device that can be used with any other WiFi-enabled device (iPod Touch, MPB, Facetime/iPhone, etc.) on a network with arguably better coverage areas but slower throughput.

For a lot of people, myself included, the ability to use the MiFi to tether my MBP at no additional cost on the (somewhat slower) VZW network outweighs the hassle of carrying a separate device, as well as the "loss" of the GPS chip (which I have in my iPhone where IMO it's really needed).

Lol, some people really can't read between the lines. This ipad mifi deal is an official partnership between verizon and apple. If u go to a verizon store, you will see a fully set up stand just for the ipad. Its over guys, att's stranglehold over the iphone is over and we will be seeing a verizon iphone in the next few months.

I wouldn't go that far. I think that it is possible that one day there will be a Verizon iphone. But it will require, I think, one of the following

1. Verizon to add GSM support
2. Verizon's LTE to reach a level where CDMA is not needed as a fallback or co-tech (example, to handle voice while data is on LTE)
3. someone develops a triple chip that doesn't have a large physical footprint, insane licensing fees or excessive battery needs.

And of course the end of the ATT contract.

Cats and Dogs sweetheart. THe two are NOT related in any way. Anymore than the fact that you can use a mifi with your Macbook Pro is a sign that Verizon is getting the iphone anytime soon.

Apple Stock Price

Does anyone own apple stock? Im just wondering if anyone has any research on it that i can read

You don't need to own stock to find out the price history. You can google it, find it on a number of sites. Heck if you are using a Mac just fire up the desktop widget. You won't be able to get every single price down to the penny but you can get a fair idea of the trend for the last year or so

What is he laughing about? If anything, Apple's failure to sign Verizon on to the iPhone early may turn out to be Apple's biggest mistake of the last 15 years. The only reason anyone talks about "Android vs. iPhone" is precisely because of Apple's decision to go exclusive to AT&T when AT&T only made up about 20% of the wireless market.

Apple's approach to entering the wireless market practically begged for an upstart competitor to challenge them, which is unfortunate for Apple because it has easily dispatched its three legacy competitors, Blackberry, Motorola, and Windows Mobile-based smartphones.

Even if exclusivity was a necessary evil at the time, it has now become the iPhone's biggest flaw. If it doesn't fall in 2011, then Apple will never have a chance to reclaim the marketshare that it has already forfeited to Android and will inevitably begint to concede to Windows Phone 7.

2011 is a make-or-break year for the iPhone. After they dispatch the exclusivity problem, they better get to work seriously updating iOS. Last year they brought some worthwhile but necessary hardware improvements, but the interface hasn't really changed since the iPhone was first released, and now Blackberry, Android, and Windows Phone all have noticeably superior user experiences.

I think you're spot on in pointing out that this is a big year for Apple as far as market share is concerned. I think almost nobody would agree that those other operating systems have superior user experiences. IOS is still the leader, by far.

thousands of iphone sales just in the US every day make me wonder if Apple is actually worried about that lost marketshare. Also remember that rising too high in the ranks could lead to legal issues. THe last thing Apple is going to want is being told they have to port iOS to other hardware due to Antitrust rules, for example

Also, even if the contract ends this coming year it doesn't equal going to Verizon. Apple could stay on GSM only, forsaking even LTE right now, and just make appropriate adjustments for T-Mobile.

Nope.

The fact that Android phones outnumber the iPhone is enough to prevent most potential legal issues. You'd first have to go after the Android phones being locked to one type of network. For instance, the Droid X only supports "CDMA 800/1900, EVDO rev. A". It isn't available on the AT&T or T-Mobile networks.

It's basically pretty difficult to go after the second place product as having a monopoly.

For the moment, but who knows what the future holds. Particularly if the iphone does go all networks.

And if that future leads to a sharp advantage for the iphone, much like the one that the ipad currently holds, there could be additional legal concerns that might stymie Apple's desires.

What a scam. How naive can the public really be??!!

I'm actually shocked to see how naive the public can be & how persuading advertising really is. This commercial is supposed to be introducing this whole new era of the iPad with Verizon when in reality, nothing has changed!! All they're doing is killing 2 birds with one stone by selling you their existing MiFi unit (which does work pretty well I must say) along with an iPad WiFi. Naturally, they can't sell you the iPad 3G + WiFi because of the AT&T exclusivity. This truly is the dumbest campaign ever, especially since you could already purchase this 'Verizon iPad' by buying a Mifi then buying an iPad Wifi from Apple.

Seriously; they've introduced nothing to us yet succeeded in getting people to swarm their stores.

What's new is that you can use that same MiFi to tether your laptop, phone, kid's DS, etc. in addition to the iPad at a fairly good monthly rate.

Other products with built-in 3G/4G solutions (including the iPad) require either a separate data plan with a separate monthly fee for every device, or an additional $30/month tethering charge.

For people like me who have occasional tethering needs, this is a big deal. There isn't currently anything like it from any of the big wireless vendors. The only "downside" is that you have to buy it with an iPad, which IMO has a lot of upside with Christmas looming. ;)
