Doesn't work or me. It detects I have the Apple Subscription and Verizon Subscription and need to cancel one. I canceled the Apple one but still shows that I have both. Endless loop. Would be nice to save $60 dollars.

Ugh. I have Apple Music, and a Verizon unlimited plan. It'd be nice to take advantage of Verizon's offer to pay for half a year, but there are a number of slightly worrisome hoops to jump through. I'd worry that canceling my current subscription through Apple may lose my playlists and such (perhaps less likely given the bit in the article about "you have two subscriptions, which to cancel"), and that then, after six months, switching from Verizon back to Apple would offer another opportunity to lose information (and more likely then, since Apple is less likely to have an in-app subscribe button when you're already subscribed, so it's more likely to be a matter of canceling the Verizon-supplied AM and subscribing fresh through Apple).

And I would, indeed, want to switch back, since I'm currently on the $99/yr plan ($8.25/mo) rather than $9.99/mo plan, and Verizon doesn't mention that as an option. Not interested in paying more in the long run just to get it free for a while.

This looks like a way for Verizon to attract more new customers (good for them), and if you end up paying through them after six months (they're surely hoping a lot of people will do this), they likely get a cut from Apple for bringing in customers (Apple is likely effectively selling AM subscription months to Verizon at somewhat less than $9.99/mo). That's also a win for Verizon. It's much less convenient/helpful, though, for existing subscribers to both services. It would have been nice to offer us, "as a thank you for being longstanding Verizon customers, here's a code for a (even just a) discount on six months of your existing Apple Music subscription". Offering existing customers a "deal" that potentially causes them to lose a bunch of data is not so nice.

Nothing is lost.

Contrary to my last post, I figured it out. I signed up for the trial with Verizon so I get 6 months free. I canceled my Apple sub. but it still has some time left that I paid for. When it runs out, the Verizon sub will kick in and go until it runs out in Feb. 2019. I already opted out of the Verizon sub. so when it ends, it WONT auto renew. I will switch back to Apple sub. Prefer handling it in app anyway.

My playlists and music are all still there. It's linked to your Apple ID. As long as that doesn't change, nothing is lost. :)

Really? I’ve canceled my subscription and re-enabled it a week later, and I remember everything still being there. I think it may rescan your library and reupload unmatched songs, but I think your list of Apple Music songs is still there. What did you lose?

I had an six month ‘free’ subscription with EE over here in the U.K. and when it expired any Apple Music songs I’d downloaded (but not owned) obviously couldn’t be played.

Hid Apple Music on my iPhone etc under the settings and they disappeared but any music I’d purchased remained; decided to re-subscribe as I can add the £9.99/fee to my airtime plan and stream unlimited Apple Music for something like £5/month-once I turned it all back on the songs I’d downloaded on AM were showing up again.

While not a horrible service, this solidifies my choice to stay with Google Plays music family plan. $15 monthly for 5 accounts that include Youtube red and Youtube Music.

I had Apple Music - I cancelled my subscription and sign up thru Verizon for 6 months free.

My take it I am getting a couple months trial and will remain letting Verizon bill me - My bill for 8 lines is already $450 unlimited whats $9.99 I was being automatically charged by Apple anyway.

Is it still possible when your current Apple subscription ends you will lose your playlists and downloaded music? Have you confirmed with Apple it is definitely linked to your Apple ID? I'm very wary of doing the Verizon trial with all of the content I already have.

This is what Apple Support told me on Twitter, a while back...

This is one thing I don’t like about monthly music subscriptions, once you cancel all of your music goes away. I want to pay once for my downloaded music. With a subscription service you’re essentially paying for your music over and over and over again.

Speak for yourself. I have tmobile and get excellent service inside buildings and in the NYC subway system, including a place where my att service was nonexistent. I have 4 people and pay $140 flat with no taxes or fees on top of that.

Verizon has been using there 700mhz band for 15 years now and is a hell of alot better than tmobile and you know it.

In a few years when tmobile goes live with its 600mhz band it just bought it will be able to compete in buildings with verizon.

Tmobile uses 700mhz.

So for everyone who is an existing Apple Music user. Are you canceling your apple subscription or the Verizon one? I’m confused as to what to do. I buy the year subscription of Apple Music and its not set to renew until February. So I’m confused as to what I’m supposed to do.

I have the Verizon Plan Unlimited but get the error "Oops, there seems to be a problem. | We're having some trouble right now, please try again soon."

I am on a corporate account - is anyone else having this issue, or anyone else signed up successfully with a corporate account?

I agree with 907 - Verizon must be feeling guilty about the excessive amount of money they're making off their unlimited plan customers. How about a free 3 months of Apple Music for my lesser paying Verizon plan?
Ha yeah right! They aren’t feeling guilty over anything. They are trying to compete with the other carriers. Like AT&T as they just added a service of your choice for no extra cost.

I'm not so concerned at the front end. You're going from two subscriptions to one, with the Verizon subscription having been added from outside the app. But on the other end, when the Verizon sub runs out, there will be a period (minutes? hours? days?) when you won't have any subscription (Apple is unlikely to give you an in-app button to subscribe while a subscription is already active). During that brief window in between, six months from now, when you have no subscription, that's when I'm concerned about it discarding all the associated playlists and such. It may be a problem that doesn't happen. I'm not quite willing to risk it. Yet.

In any case, I think my yearly sub renewed sometime in the last few months, so it'd be a long time before the Verizon sub actually kicked in.

Wouldn’t even use Apple Music for free. Sorry, platform sucks compared to Spotify.
Thanks, we're all glad you came into this thread to tell us that. Collective worry over whether this would cause you to break up with Spotify was keeping us up at night.

so if i increase my bill by $40 a month, i get a $10 benefit for 6 months. seems like an awesome deal

I am worried about losing my library at the end of the trial when changing back over to Apple billing. I have the student discount, so I don’t know I may leave things as they are. It would be nice to have the 6 months, but I think Verizon and Apple could have handled this better. Like a promo code for example.

There's no point in arguing whether one service is better over the other in your personal location. Everyone's service will differ depending where they live..

For my anecdote: AT&T is useless and massively overpriced where I live. Verizon works great but is over priced and loaded with "extra fees". T-mobile works just fine and is very reasonable price-wise, but does suffer from the occasional dead zone in certain buildings.

But I know that one state over the story could be 100% different.

I stick with T-mobile because at least with them I kind-of get the impression that they care about me as a customer. Never had that with Verizon and AT&T would laugh at a dead baby.

Verizon and Apple last week announced a partnership that provides six free months of Apple Music service to new and existing customers with a Verizon Unlimited plan, and as of today, Verizon customers can sign up for their free Apple Music subscriptions.

Verizon subscribers who have an unlimited plan can visit the Apple Music section on the Verizon website to begin the sign up process. Logging in with a Verizon subscriber account is required, and from there, customers will receive a text message with a link that needs to be opened on a mobile device.

For iPhone and Android users that already have the app installed, it will open it up with subscription options. If the app isn't already installed, the App Store or Google Play store will open with instructions to download the app.

Apple Music is available to all Verizon Unlimited subscribers, including Verizon Plan Unlimited, Go Unlimited, Beyond Unlimited, and Above Unlimited. Customers who have one of Verizon's original Unlimited plans (from earlier this year) can also sign up, and there have been some reports from Reddit users that other Verizon subscribers have been presented with the offer.

Verizon customers who already subscribe to Apple Music can activate the free trial offer, but will be prompted to cancel their existing Apple Music subscriptions through Apple to avoid double billing.

Apple Music subscribers who recently renewed will want to wait for a few weeks to activate their Verizon trials to make sure to get the full six months of free service. Annual subscribers may be able to cancel via Apple and get a prorated refund.

Each individual Verizon line is able to sign up for a free Apple Music trial, but it does not work with the family plan. Customers with an existing Apple Music family plan will need to cancel it, with each person in the family signing up for the free Verizon trial separately. The same goes for current student plans -- cancel with Apple and resubscribe through Verizon to get the free six months.

It appears the Apple Music subscriptions will be billed through Verizon following the conclusion of the six month trial rather than through iTunes like a standard Apple Music subscription.

Customers who sign up for the six month free trial and who do not want to pay for a subscription afterwards can cancel at any time, including right after signing up. Access to Apple Music remains available for the full six month period after cancelling through Verizon.

Subscriptions redeemed today will expire in February 2019.

This and free 4k TV with 5G, all to capture new customers. If only they’d gotten my Apple Watch 3LTE to work with V as well as it did with AT&T.

I'm just confused on why Verizon can't just offer to pay for Apple music for an entire year and beyond. Tmobile pays for Netflix, Sprint pays for Hulu and Tidal, ATT pays for HBO, and Verizon only gives 6 months? Seems like just a way to get more people onto Apple Music who weren't subscribers before. :/

Verizon is (or sees themselves as) the market leader, so doesn't have to give away as much stuff to get people to sign up. They designed the plan for new subscribers to Apple Music, and they're likely getting some sort of cut for bringing customers to Apple - since they're doing the billing, it's likely Apple is essentially selling them discounted Apple Music plans ("buy it from us for $7, resell it to your customers for $10" or some such), and Verizon will get to keep the difference once the six months has run out (for the customers who let the service continue). They "offer" it for existing customers, but in a manner that is inconvenient enough that not nearly as many will take advantage of the deal.

Personally, as an existing Verizon and Apple Music customer, I'd be happy for Verizon to just offer a discount code of some sort to cover part of the cost.

For anyone else wondering. I called both iTunes and Verizon and the information I got was that for those who have a prepaid 1 year subscription, even if you try to cancel it, it won't allow you since its already prepaid. The best thing to do is to sign up for the Verizon promo after your 1 year subscription has ended.

Thanks for the info! I’ll go ahead and wait until subscription expires.
