As noted by 9 to 5 Mac, Verizon has posted a banner on its site suggesting that the carrier will indeed be offering the iPad 2 as of its official U.S. launch date of March 11th. AT&T, Apple's other carrier partner for the iPad 2 in the U.S., has not yet announced launch plans for the device but will presumably also have stocks available on the 11th.

Apple was silent in its initial iPad 2 announcement about how many and which retail partners would have availability of the device on launch day, but Best Buy, Wal-Mart, and Sam's Club have all signaled their launch participation, and with carrier partners apparently also onboard, Apple will have a significant number of distribution points for immediate sales.

On my 1st gen iPad, I wish that I could put one of those cases. For those that are trying to save some money, buy a refurb 1st gen. It is still going strong.:)

I live in NY and have the AT&T iPhone 4. This might be my chance to go back to Verizon and get that good and consistent service. Though I know when I'm outside of NY or San Fran, then AT&T is generally supposed to be faster 3G service.

For a product that was thought, by some analyst, to be constrained to somewhere between 300,000 to 500,000 units at launch, there sure does appear to be a helluva lotta places where you will be able to "not" get one on launch day

Any idea what their data rate/price is going to be? No contract like at&t?

I don't think "suggests" is the right word here. They are explicitly saying that this is when you will be able to order it.

Maybe Apple will not have a pre-order for shipping to make everyone who wants it day-one, get in line. That way the press will broadcast the hundreds of eager customers who lined up for days.

If so, I can wait a few days or weeks to get mine. I hope they at least have a reservation option.

I doubt there will be any kind of huge lines, except maybe in the biggest cities, e.g., NY, Chicago, LA. Unlike the iPhone, where just about everybody has a cell phone and might want an iPhone, the more expensive iPad is more a niche device. Not everybody wants a tablet. Plus, iPhones need extra sales time to set up and activate, whereas an iPad is like, swipe the credit card, give 'em the box, out the door they go. Finally, it appears there will be several launch day distributors, not just Apple stores.

wouldn't roll your eyes too much with fangirl delight. Just because they claim those outlets will receive them, you won't know how many have been requested or shipped to each outlet in your respective town. Your local Walmart, BestBuy or Verizon may only get in 10 on launch day, and those 10 maybe the one you don't want.

I don't really see why people would be getting an iPad on Verizon. I get that their voice network is better; calls drop less often, voice sounds better.

But data? AT&T is a lot faster for 3G...

Month by month contract, "Verizon's monthly tablet data pricing tiers are: $20 for 1GB; $35 for 3GB; $50 for 5GB; and $80 for 10GB."

How is this shocking? Next friday is the 11th.

EDIT: 5pm is a bit late, but it's still the same day, and they made no mention of the time at which it'll go on sale, so... Anywhere between 12am and 11:59pm seems within reason. ;) They're probably trying to launch it when they expect most people will be available to buy it. After school/work.
