Ran into this same problem getting a iPhone for my nephew for his birthday. The Verizon rep was saying everything they could to steer us away from the iPhone.

This is exactly why I purchased my VZW iPhone online instead of in the store. I didn't want some associate telling me I'm better suited for an Android phone when I just want to purchase an iPhone and leave the store.

Like I said in one of the first replies to this post. THIS IS 100% COMMISSION based. Sales reps (no matter what carrier they work for) get SIGNIFICANTLY less commission for selling an iphone then they do for selling ANY OTHER PHONE.

ill tell you what if apple looked into it and proved it to be true i would have no doubt they would terminate any agreement they had with verizon if they were able to, or at the end of there contract not let verizon resign with them.

att does it too... seriously who cares, its not the end of the world. iPhones, Android, RIM, Symbian can all do the same thing, just all have different ways to do them. SO if employees are recommending a phone to a customer for specific reasons, they usually all phones will apply

hopefully apple would look into the fact that because they require more of a cut then ANY other manufacturer...this leads to reps getting paid less commission...which leads to reps selling against the iphone!

The reps may not like to sell the iPhone, but the corporate heads don't care about the reps commission. The corportate heads care about getting customers to sign 2 year contracts. If they lose customers to AT&T because some Verizon rep tried to dissuade a customer from the iPhone, they would not be too happy. All you have to do is let corporate headquarters know that a certain rep was doing that, and you went to AT&T instead, that rep would be unemployed.

Plus alot of android phones are far superior spec wise and it's easy to get someone on an android for that reason

1.2 ghz processor
8 Meg camera
4.5 inch super amOled plus screen
Sd card slot
Free music
Free turn by turn voice nav
Can sync with iTunes

Just saying don't bash the reps for trying to make a living

Be VERY careful you do not get caught up in the "spec" ratings.
1.2Ghz can be twice as slow as a 800Mhz cpu depending upon the OS, apps, etc.
Same for memory.
Camera, megapixels are only 1 measurement. And any valid photographer will tell you the MPs don't tell you quality.
Free music? Go anywhere and you can get that.
YOu need someone to tell you audibly to go left? To each his own I guess. I always know which way is north.

So the specs are highly subjective and can be slighted much too easy. These are phones, not computers. :)

I have had numerous people tell me that when going into Verizon, reps are purposely trying to talk iPhone wanting customers out from buying them. They are trying to push them all to Android phones. I can't believe this! Someone literally told me that one representative told them that the phone is "outdated" and that Apple would be "bought by android." I can't believe someone would say such a thing. I guess you can't expect much more from Verizon. Anyone else have similar instances?

Sadly, yes. It comes down to control and profit/churn rate.

Its not about agenda or lack or information. Its about money. No doubt both verizon and the reps make more money on non apple hardware. It probably has to do with the fact that verizon had minimal negotiating power with apple when they added the iphone...

My niece works in a VZW call center. I told her I was getting an iPhone 4 and she immediately tried to talk me out of it. She said "get a 4G Android phone" not that old thing. Clearly VZW has no loyalty to Apple. Their flagship phone is an Android device and they only carry iPhone as a way to finally stop losing customers to At&t. She talked about how much the call volume had gone up with all those users needing help "setting up" their VZW iPhones and how other VZW phones were somehow "easier". Yeah, right.

When VZW iPhone first came out, they offered cash incentive to bring a line over from At&t. The amount fell short of the ETF fee even if you had bought your iPhone 4 on the first day At&t offered one. By not making it a "no cost" transaction, it was clear VZW was only interested in attracting disgruntled At&t iPhone users and they were willing to let the rest go.

Then there's the data plan pricing. If Verizon wanted to, they could go "head to head" with At&t on price but they won't. I pay less than 60 bucks a month "out the door" for my line on At&t. For the equivalent setup on Verizon, I would pay over 90. I had considered taking my line back to VZW once their tiered data came out. Their lowest tier costs more than At&t's middle tier. So now I'm biding my time until I can take the entire family over to At&t, all on iPhones. Our last VZW contract is up in August so that might just be the date.

I've heard the same thing (about the Android phones being easier...) from Best Buy rep, but he gave me a good explanation - there are a lot of 1st time Apple users buying the Verizon iPhone, which means they have to download and install iTunes to activate their phone. I'd say that's an inconvenience for somebody that doesn't use iTunes. So in that one little aspect, I can see why they would get more calls :) Thank goodness for iOS 5, the final break from the PC.

Verizon has never been the cheapest, so based on cost alone, AT&T wins. It should be all about the service in the area you will be using it, but so many people have such passionate feelings towards one company or the other. Why? It's just your service provider. Pick the one that works the best for you...

Only to then have call centers filled with people wondering where their cloud data vanished too... And no they didn't have it on a computer, because Steve said they could cut the cord to that beast.

I'm typing this as someone whose MobileMe email vanished a week ago - and not by my doing. Apple can't recover it, but they deleted it. I had a "life situation" blowup and I only have until last September......

I work at best buy and they do the same thing sometimes.. Not as blatant. They make more money of android than iPhones. The only way they make money on iPhones is warranties and accessories.

I can believe it. Consumers are uninformed and snot nosed kids who work in retail have their own agenda.
What's wrong with a snot nosed kid, or an uninformed consumer? They buy iPads. iToys are designed for their simple minds. It's a perfect match proven by the Apple business model.

Why would anyone who ever travel outside of the US go into a Verizon store. I would never consider buying a CDMA phone.
