untill sprint and tmobile get the iphone, expect the consumer in the usa to be raped with crazy data plans from att and verizon.

this is not a surprise.

if apple did a cheaper phone like a pay as you go phone, and had it on all carriers in the usa, then i believe these telecom companies would be forced to actually be competitive.

Well said. You are correct. Apple should offer the iPhone on Sprint and T-Mobile, and also sell an unlocked version in their Apple Stores.

Unlimited data is the lifeblood of future innovation.

That is an excellent point.

So once these unlimited plans end, are we still covered as unlimited or are we capped? What about next contract when the iphone 6 comes out and I want to upgrade/renew my contract, will I still be able to have unlimited data?

That's the real question- are people grandfathered in? Or on contract renewal does unlimited data go away?

Quite frankly, if Verizon dumps unlimited data before the iPhone 5 comes out they are morons. I know a LOT of people- I would guess 90% of those without an iPhone 4- that are waiting to switch to Verizon when the iPhone 5 comes out. Unlimited data is part of that idea- they have it now on ATT, and they want it on Verizon. IF Verizon wants to KILL ATT when the next iPhone 5 comes out, they need to keep the unlimited data option alive, even if it just for a month after the 5 is released. They could announce the end of it for people who signup after a date and create a huge urgency for people to signup with Verizon for the iPhone 5 over ATT.

Verizon customers have it best right now.

Unlimited data with the ability to tether (albeit limited to 2GB/month).

AT&T customers need to jailbreak to tether.

I don't think we will ever see the iPhone on T-Mobile USA. When T-mobile bid on spectrum for 3G they had to take what was left over which was the odd frequency of 1700 MHZ which no one else in the US uses. So i highly doubt apple would make a phone for a odd ball frequency.

If anything the iPhone in its current state could be sold but it would be gimped and only work on edge

Does the 2gb tether feature come with the Unlimited Data pack? I thought I read somewhere that Verizon customers had to pay an additional $20 to tether.

I just spoke to a Verizon CSR and they told me that if I sign up for an iPhone 4 right now, I will be grandfathered into unlimited data for as long as I have a smartphone with Verizon, even 4g iPhones.

I currently have an iPhone 4 with AT&T, but if this is true, I'm going to have to sign up for a Verizon one before they end the unlimited plans.

Now, I used to work in the customer service industry and know that probably only 70 percent of the employees there know what they are talking about so I'm going to have to get at least a few others to confirm this for me before I make the switch.

I'm hoping they drop the unlimited plan. I live in an area (college campus) where I have wifi everywhere I go. The only reason why I wil miss unlimited data is for tethering with MyWi. 200 MB or so at 10-15 dollars a month would be perfect for me. $30 for unlimited data is a lot anyway.

See.. I want an unlimited plan because I have NO IDEA how much data the phone uses when surfing safari or in the app store. IDK if there is an "average" data consumption of iPhone users, sounds like it would be hard to get solid information on that.

As far as all these arguments go, how many of you are on unlimited voice calls? I bet a majority of you are on smaller voice plans because you don't use as much and you can save money.

The same thing goes for data plans now. The only reason unlimited data is such a standard is because everyone is too lazy to look at their bill and see what they use. Sure, GBs aren't as transparent as minutes so everyone is clueless but most people save money on the new offers. The only people this hurts are the people that are eextreme users, and now they simply have to pay a larger portion than the people that aren't extreme users. This is in no way unfair to anyone.

And don't ramble on about how that's going to be nothing in five years because of course it isnt, but also these plans won't be the same in 5 years...they probably won't be the same in 2 years. As LTE develops, capacity grows and we can only hope it meets demand, but frankly none of you have any idea what the landscape will look like in 2 years much less 5.

Randall! Quit screwing around on the internet! Your company's coverage sucks and this T-Mobile deal might actually fix it! So get back to making it work so Deutsch Telecom does not end up getting a $6,000,000,000 Christmas gift!

I'm not dicking around Randall! iPhone 4s is going to be on all carriers- don't make me switch back to sprint!!!

ha..ha? I love how when you people lose an argument, you just change the topic completely. I don't know why you even bother quoting me since absolutely nothing about what you said had anything to do with what I said. I didn't even say anything about AT&T...and this is a thread about VZ data plans. Not much of a threat, no cell phone company wants customers like you.

Be scared Randall- we are legion!!

Now quit screwing around and get back to testifying!! That "4G" network is not going to build itself!!
