Totally worthless deal for 99.99% of the public unless it has tethering included free of charge which would likely prompt me to sign up.

Not really, I personally use roughly 2 gb of data each month, without tethering, and I love the fact that I dont have to watch my data usage at the end of the month to make sure I dont get slap with huge fees. For many of us who stream music or surf the web anytime we are out and bored, its worth paying the extra 5 bucks a month and having the piece of mind that we wont be racking up fees if we accidentally go over.

You didn't really disprove the point. Most people do not use that much data. I doubt anyone is against the idea of there being an unlimited plan but there only being such a plan in effect just has people paying for data they don't need. It kind of sucks we have to pay for data by the byte instead of speed but that seems to be the world we're in for now when it comes to mobile network access.

I am currently a verizon customer with a Droid X. I have a $30 unlimited data plan currently. (Had unlimited data before tiered pricing) The Droid X also has the ability to a wifi hotspot. And although the data pack is unlimited, the wifi hotspot costs $20 extra per month.

I have to 2gb plan and I have connections to all AT&T hotshots. It just automaticlly connects.

You do realize this has nothing to do with unlimited data plans and/or tethering, correct?

The AT&T "hotshots" are just WiFi that OS 4.X automatically connects to after the first time.

Doubt that. AT&T will have to come up with keeping its iPhone users happy. Watch and see that unlimited data plan return. If and when that happens, Verizon would be complete idiots to business if they eventually cap it.
I think the unlimited will be short lived. Come June when Verizon gets the iPhone 5 they will move to a tiered plan.

MacRumors homework: please find out WIFI hotspot details!

My homework: find out if my school has a Verizon discount!

Tethering my iPad would be a dream come true.

But I'm waiting until the summer iPhone 5...

Thats why Im never leaving Sprint... no dropped calls and the pricing is great... Sprint will have the iphone in due time. You cant beat $110 for unlimited text, data and phone.;)

You're not tied to anything. You can break the contract any time you wish. Just most people are too cheap and don't want to fork over the termination fee. For some reason, they think it's more expensive to do so than pay for something they really don't want for the next 2 years (or whatever time is left).

Everytime your carriers sends you a notice of change of terms or that a new tax or fee is going to be added or removed on your plan, you have a chance to exit your contract without having to pay a termination fee.
If you don't believe it, do your research or ask your attorney.

This won't put significant pressue on AT&T to bring back unlimited. Now that Verizon eliminated their cheap plan, AT&T can market their data plans as more affordable than Verizon's. Most people don't use over 2GB or even 200mb under normal circumstances.

I have a Droid X with unlimited internet, which I'm using now on my computer. Sometimes the 3g goes up and down, could be pretty annoying, so my biggest worry is how the iPhone is going to affect it. I really wish I had 4g.

Enjoy your extreme happiness by yourself. :D
I had Sprint before, and I'm never going back to them.

You must be in one of the markets they have excellent coverage to be this happy. It happens with all carriers, so in reality there no absolute good or bad carrier.

In my case, I like T-Mobile. Great service where I live, but when I travel to north Florida, some remote areas have terrible coverage.

Unlimited on all the carriers has a "cap". They don't shut off your data at the cap but they state in your contract that can impose overage fees if you go over it.

What on earth are you doing to reach that?

I'm not sure what he is using, but I have an app for IP cameras (we use them as baby monitors) on my iPhone and iPad, and I can burn through 2 GB of data on my iPad in about one day. I'm grandfathered on the unlimited AT&T plan for my iPhone so it doesn't matter there, but I'm on tiered pricing for the iPad. Also, I think that Skype eats up a lot of data too.

i have the unlimited $30 plan on verizon with my blackberry, and its truly unlimited. i hit 500 gb last month with no penalties.

500 GB?! I doubt anyone on these forums even uses that a month on their house connections! Maybe a big business uses that in a month...

The real question is if they are letting people tether with the wifi hotspot for free.

They did it with their Palm Pre...hopefully it is the same with the iPhone.

And hopefully AT&T will then drop their ridiculous $20 tethering fee on an already limited data plan.
