i have the unlimited $30 plan on verizon with my blackberry, and its truly unlimited. i hit 500 gb last month with no penalties.

What in the world did you do to get 500G?

AT&T is now under some pressure to catch up otherwise they will surely loose more customers - both of which is good for us.

I can see ATT one upping VZ and offering unlimited for $25

I'm tied to a family plan so switching to VZ really isn't an option. And VZ coverage isn't all that great where I live

This won't put significant pressue on AT&T to bring back unlimited. Now that Verizon eliminated their cheap plan, AT&T can market their data plans as more affordable than Verizon's. Most people don't use over 2GB or even 200mb under normal circumstances.

Are you serious? My iPhone is always connected to WIFI at work, home, and school, yet I still manage over 400mb of 3g on the slowest months and close to 1gb on the busiest ones. I'm sure there are plenty of people that pass over 200mb. It's such a small amount! I'm sure that checking email is at least half of that, forgetting about large attachments. Then there are all the apps that push notifications. It's easy to eat that amount by simply leaving the iPhone on the charger!

A $20 1gb plan would be perfect for me, but it will never happen. I miss the original iPhone's data plan (but not the speed, or should I say lack thereof). Currently I am still grandfathered on the unlimited, but that's only because I get a student discount on it that makes it slightly cheaper than the 2gb plan, which for some reason I don't believe I get a discount on.

I'm on Verizon now. It's unlimited. I rack up over 17GB of data every month, no problem.

Shy of tethering to your computer and using your phone as a hot spot, I don't see how there are enough hours in the day (and juice in your phone's battery) to consume 17GB of data per month.

Ever since the Netflix app was released I've been using about 10gb a month with no throttling or any other fees. I don't get why everyone assumes there's a 5gb limit.

If anything says it's unlimited it's 100% limitless. There is no limit.

One should think so, but unfortunately this is not always true. They often have some clause that allows them to charge extra for excessive usage, slow down your connection, .... the detail is in the fine print where they can define what they mean with unlimited - does not matter what the general understanding of that word is. This said, my grandfathered AT&T unlimited seems to be truly unlimited since I never experienced any problems.

I'm not saying that Verizon unlimited is not unlimited, I'm just saying we don't know without reading the fine print.

My predictions:

Hotspot will be additional, the only reason the Pre/Pixi received the free hotspot is because it was a flop and they needed to clear inventory.

Unlimited Data will only be for 3G network, once an LTE version is available (2012, whenever), hello tiered data, or buying buckets of GBs.

Unlimited data can and will be throttled if you abuse it. Read your terms and conditions.

Thats why Im never leaving Sprint... no dropped calls and the pricing is great... Sprint will have the iphone in due time. You cant beat $110 for unlimited text, data and phone.;)

Like anyone else's phone, you may have no dropped calls, but then you may drop calls whenever you are traveling.

What is their tiered plans like? From what I got they don't offer the 200mb data like ATT.

They have stated that Verizon is "doing away with its low-end 150 MB data plan priced at $15 per month for 3G smartphone users, leaving the $29.99 unlimited plan as the only option." What is the cost for 4 phone lines with 2 of them on data plans? My T-Mobile plan has unlimited text, T-to-T, nights and weekends.

Streaming CNET's CES coverage was between 2 and 3gb for 3 days for me...

Hah! That would make it about 100GB per month! Carriers have the argument that if you are using that much data you must be a pirate, or someone who 'abuses' their services. Times have change, and bandwidth demands have increased exponentially. The term 'abuse' is very vague and outdated, besides sounding offensive.
Those 'dudes' sitting with the chairman may not even know how to use an iPad or similar device for anything other than accessing AOL's website to read news and accessing their email, believing that if they use 200MB per month, then you should not need more than 250MB per month (how generous!).

The real question is if they are letting people tether with the wifi hotspot for free.

They did it with their Palm Pre...hopefully it is the same with the iPhone.

And hopefully AT&T will then drop their ridiculous $20 tethering fee on an already limited data plan.

the palm pre plan does have a 5gb limit though on the hotspot, the regular data is unlimited though

i'm looking forward to getting the iphone 5 in june/july on verizon.

I'm pretty sure verizons want be out til 2012 why would apple make a device for verizons with such a short life cycle? They want to make as much money as they can from verizons so looks like you will be waiting longer then June/July ;)

Whatever it is, it's still higher than my 2GB on AT&T.

I constantly hit between 2.5 - 3 GB / month with tethering, so if they are consistent and their unlimited means 5GB, I'll be switching to VZ.

I was a VZ customer before the iPhone came out, and reluctantly switched to AT&T for the iPhone.

I have experienced more dropped calls with AT&T between home and work and the route to and fro. So, I'll be glad to switch back to VZ and will actually pay the ETF and transfer my number back :)

How about the former SERO plan which was $30/mo for unlimited EDGE data on the phone, 500 minutes. Add your text plan and its pretty compelling. I haven't seen anything even close to it offered anywhere. Unfortunately, the edge data isn't that fast and you don't get texting included. Even if you added texting, the only disadvantage is not having a smart phone and an older Samsung Blade A900.

I call total BS on that.
500gb = 16.66gb/day = 694mb/hr continuously for 30 days. LOL right!!

Verizon?

I'l never understand how people can switch to Verizon's network. I have to multi-task for my business by running apps, texting, surfing the web, all while being on the phone. How on earth are people going to be productive on Verizon's network?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Man Americans get ripped off. On one hand you have a CDMA network were you dont get the full features of an iPhone and on the other you have a GSM network that has poor coverage.

Over in Oz. I pay $115 for $800 worth of calls and 9GB of data. My girlfriend pays $63 for $600 worth of calls and 3GB of data. And the download speeds average 3-6Mbs and the upload speeds average 2-3.5Mbs. Our worst provider would be equivalent to AT&T
