13 year customer with Verizon and rep just told me I don't qualify for Edge? What are the requirements for edge?

Currently:
12gb share plan
4 lines
1 hotspot

If you have FiOS and are enrolled in One-Bill, then you don't qualify. Happened to me. Had to call FiOS and remove the One-Bill option, then the Edge plan worked.

It's $200 it is a standard fee. Now there is also a way around this! And if you want let me call our Verizon Rep and confirm this. But one time I had a customer that had a cracked screen n their phone and a Verizon rep told them to just put on old phone on their line and then send that one back. I asked how this is possible and they told me you don't actually have to send the original phone that you got when you upgraded, you just have to send the one you have on the line when you do edge.

So if you have an old phone lying around ur house, then you can put it on your line and then upgrade and you will be required to send the old phone and keep the one you are gonna give your relative.

May I ask - if you do this 'swap':
1. Can it be any sort of phone or does it at least have to be a smartphone?
2. Did you incur any sort of activation fees doing this?
3. How critical is the timing? (e.g. I have a iPhone 6 in the pipe but its not activated - can I still swap in a 'cheap' phone since the 6 isn't active yet)
4. How fast can you switch the activation to a new device (e.g. could I swap to a cheap phone at 5PM and then bring the 6 on at 6PM?)
5. I'm assuming from this that the phone sent in will have to be activated - you can't just dump a phone in the box?

I was told by a Verizon rep that the fee would cost approximately $300 because its calculated based on the cost of a new iPhone 5S at todays price which is $699, and subtract the subsidized price I paid at the beginning of the contract which is $399. So I would be responsible for the remaining amount which is approximately $300.

I can help just a little on that - was told by both the store rep and the phone rep its a flat $200 for all of these upgrades and I'm reading directly from the instructions that came with the box "If you fail to ship back the old device you will be charged $200 on your next monthly bill for the old device."

I'm inclined to believe them and frankly I halfway wonder if they even have much in the way of process or systems to do much thorough validation of what you send in. The VZW billing system is an old COBOL monstrosity although it does have a few modern appendages. I'm hoping someone with a little experience validates my theory on its weaknesses.

Would I be eligible to start enrolling in the Early Edge program? Because it says you have to be within 12 months of your upgrade elgibilty date and I will be 12 months into my contract on October 7. Maybe I'm looking at a different thing but it also says your device has to be elgible for upgrade which mine obviously is not. It's confusing.

Verizon: to start with new Edge program, turn in existing phone?

Anyone who got Edge, did you guys get a shipping label? I got the envelope and the box but no shipping label at all. I really want to turn my phone in by the end of this week.

Did you really get to keep your old phone?

I think there is one caveat, if you are currently on a two-year contract and near the end of your contract term, you can upgrade early to Edge without sending in your old phone. My 2 year contract expires on October 26 but I was able to upgrade this morning online by changing to the Edge program but don't have to send in my old phone. Maybe if you are closer to the end of your contract you don't have to send in your old phone when changing to Edge.

I'm less than two months away from the end of my contract and the VZW site will let me "upgrade" by starting an Edge-plan on a new iPhone 6+, but I chatted with a rep and was told that I could not switch to Edge before my contract ended, and when I told her that the site was letting me do just that, she told me I'd have to send in my old iPhone. So was she wrong about that, too, or did they bury the need-to-return-your-old-device language somewhere in the fine print? Anyone else gone down this path?
