Verizon in August limited video quality on all of its unlimited data plans to a maximum of 720p on smartphones, but starting in November, the carrier is allowing customers to pay an additional $10 per month for higher-quality video streaming, reports CNET.

With $10/month payment per line, Verizon customers can stream video at the maximum quality available on any VZW device, up to 4K, removing all video restrictions.

Verizon currently limits customers who subscribe to its entry-level Go Unlimited plan to 480p, while customers who have the Beyond Unlimited plan have access to 720p streaming on smartphones and 1080p streaming on connected tablets.

Go Unlimited starts at $75 per month for a single line, and the plan includes unlimited LTE data that may be throttled during times of network congestion, 480p video streaming, and 600kb/s mobile hotspot streaming.

Beyond Unlimited starts at $85 for a single line and includes unlimited LTE data that's not throttled during times of network congestion until 22GB has been used, 720p video streaming, and 15GB of LTE mobile hotspot access.

Verizon plans to make the new $10 video add-on available to customers on November 3.

Order of trust of carriers: TMobile, AT&T, Sprint, every other carrier, then Verizon. (maybe Sprint, then AT&T...can't decide).

People say they have the best coverage, but they are also the least interested in giving their customers good value and treating them like they have half a brain.

GO Unlimited is only 3G just an FYI for everyone wondering why their iphones turned to crap after upgrading to it.

It's 2017... how are they still coming up with new schemes for data plans?

This shouldn't be that difficult. Bits are bits. Let me use them.

Imagine if voice plans in the old days were done like this:

"You have 600 minutes a month... but only a portion of them can be used during mornings... and another portion can only be used for calls longer than 5 minutes... and another portion can only be used for ordering take-out food..."

Dang... now that I think about it... remember the "free calls after 9pm" nonsense?

I guess everything comes back around.

:D

Well their network has gotten worse here in Houston. I am mostly in the Galleria, west Houston and Katy areas.

This is kinda crap is the reason I dropped Verizon. They always pull something like this. If T-Mobile had better coverage I would be with them, but I need good coverage so Im with ATT. ATT can have its issues, but they seem a lot more trustworthy than Verizon. Verizon is the Comcast of carriers.

big wow....... nothing much for something..... yawn question for anyone.... why MUST i have a data plan if i don't want one? there are so many access points out there personally i do fine.

To be honest... the data plan is now what your monthly phone bill is primarily based on.

You're thinking of the old days where you picked your voice plan first, then a text plan, and finally a data plan.

Now... voice and texts are unlimited (essentially worthless)... and you're actually paying for data.

Oh I hear ya... wouldn't it be great to have a smartphone that could make phone calls... but only use WIFI for data?

Sure! But like I said... carriers are now in the data plan business... not the voice and text business anymore.

lol who streams 4K video over 4G/LTE?

720p is fine when you’re watching on a 5 inch screen

What’s ridiculous is that they charge the $10 but then don’t bump the 22gb throttle cap, which you’ll hit pretty quickly streaming 4K (also there’s like one smartphone from Sony that has a 4K display and most of the time it runs at 2K, and I don’t think it’s available for Verizon anyway also RIP battery streaming 4K)
