As a Verizon customer it sounds like fraud to up charge grandfathered unlimited data customers $20, throttle down video streaming then charge an additional $10 to undo the throttling.
Fraud on the right thing to do basis. On a Legal interpretation, read the fine print in the contract. Sure they have their backsides covered.

So the unlimited plan wasn't unlimited, but now you can purchase an unlimited Unlimited plan?

Our unlimited plans throttle you to something like 32 to 64kb/s after your allowance has been used but its still „unlimited“ cuz you dont get charged for every additional mb. Always hated it

Such crap that they charge extra for tethering, or at least limit it, and now they are going to charge for a higher quality stream. The data has been paid for. Where the hell do they get off telling their customers how to use the data they’ve paid for already and charging them extra that should already be included?

Order of trust of carriers: TMobile, AT&T, Sprint, every other carrier, then Verizon. (maybe Sprint, then AT&T...can't decide).

People say they have the best coverage, but they are also the least interested in giving their customers good value and treating them like they have half a brain.

Their coverage and speeds actually are nowhere near their advertising hype. Thus the reasons for these changes.

lol who streams 4K video over 4G/LTE?

720p is fine when you’re watching on a 5 inch screen

What’s ridiculous is that they charge the $10 but then don’t bump the 22gb throttle cap, which you’ll hit pretty quickly streaming 4K (also there’s like one smartphone from Sony that has a 4K display and most of the time it runs at 2K, and I don’t think it’s available for Verizon anyway also RIP battery streaming 4K)
I have before, was great on AT&T while traveling to Mexico.

Seems foolish. Verizon's bandwidth is great, but not unlimited. Since they do not have an unlimited product, they should not sell an unlimited plan.

This is kinda crap is the reason I dropped Verizon. They always pull something like this. If T-Mobile had better coverage I would be with them, but I need good coverage so Im with ATT. ATT can have its issues, but they seem a lot more trustworthy than Verizon. Verizon is the Comcast of carriers.

I thought Verizon was better than ATT ?

All carriers have limitations. Consumers just have to pick the crap they don't mind sniffing.

Who streams 4k? Very few of us because there isn't a lot of 4k content, but I imagine there are a lot of people who want to do it. Apple started the demand and VR displays have pushed it.

Also, there are also people who want to upload or stream 4K video that they shot. Why wouldn't they want to do that if that's what the camera is capturing. It's not a question of being "fine" on a 5" screen if the people watching your content have a 27" 4K display.

And that one Sony phone you refer to came came out in 2016. They arn't the only manafacture with 4K displays.

good.. I told them $20 was my max for an upcharge.

Since unlimited launched... I am lucky if I can view youtube at 480p without it being laggy

I use well over 500 GB*

*Results not typical :)

I meant... these new "unlimited" plans from Verizon only came around this year.

So most of their customers are still on "legacy" plans from the last year or two which were data-bucket plans: 2GB, 4GB, 6GB, 8GB, etc.

Like I said... I'm on a 6GB plan... so the new 22GB allowance would be quite an upgrade for me!

(but obvious not for you) :p
