Several Android phones have front facing cameras. The Evo and Epic on Sprint use Qik for video calls. Works well enough over 3G.. But then I also use my Epic's hotspot as the wifi my iPhone 4 uses for FaceTime, when I'm out in the world.

Actually Verizon has 4G phones. The HTC EVO 4G.

You sure on that? I thought it was Sprint only right now. Or are you saying it can be used on Verizon at 3g speeds, like the iPhone can be used on Tmobile at Edge speeds?

Except the EVO is not a verizon phone....

BTW it also has a front facing camera so it can be used for video call.
And if I am not mistaken there is an article somewhere that stated that the next iphone will not be on LTE. I believe his point was valid because its similar to the fact that the original iphone was on edge despite 3G being available back then.

The HTC EVO 4G is on Sprint, not Verizon. And like I said earlier, there are NO front facing cameras on Verizon's Network. I understand that the 4G could be a laptop connect for better video chatting, but there is a possibility that it could be geared towards phones also.

You're grasping at straws here.

You're right that Verizon doesn't have a videoconferencing phone now, but that means nothing. They also don't have any 4G handsets yet. It's just as likely that they could introduce another 4G device that has this capability, BEFORE there's even an LTE iPhone.

The website isn't hinting at anything about the iPhone. It's vague and could mean anything.

I'm at the Verizon website, and I noticed this:

http://phones.verizonwireless.com/4g/

Right next to where it says,What Does Verizon 4G LTE Mean For You?, It says: "It means seamless video conferencing.":eek:

I don't think that Verizon has a smartphone capable of video conferencing, and I'm not sure if the 4G LTE is just for phones or what, but..

I honestly think that Verizon is hinting at an iPhone being released with their 4G LTE network next year! :D

Verizon doesn't have any smartphone capable of 4G either...
new phones would have to be released to take advantage of it, so the fact that none of their phones now have videoconferencing, doesn't mean the 4G ones won't

VeriPhone is a done deal.

No need to search for obtuse references to tip that info. Try NY Times and WSJ.

You mean the same articles that swear that a CDMA-compatible iPhone is destined for Verizon, yet it was announced that Apple is in talks with China Telecom, and Reliance and Tata in India for the same phone (the latter two reported by the same WSJ that states it will be for Verizon)?

Far from a done deal and to be honest, very immature reporting by both the WSJ and NYT. They definitely should have done more research instead of jumping the gun.

BL.

It's possible they have solid sources. The truth is we don't know. We won't know for sure until January.

Any Android based phone that has a camera can do video conferencing. It might not be with a front-facing camera, but you can see them, and they can see you.

Tango, Qik, Fring, etc

Um, if it isn't front facing, how can you see them and they see you? It's more like you can see them and they can't see you, or they can see you and you can't see them. Unless you maybe use a mirror? :)

VZW may pull me over to their side if I don't see improvements with AT&T after the iPhone goes multi carrier.

iFanboi should alert the editors of each about their immature reporting. I'm sure they'll get right on that.

The first quarter they are announcing (and possibly even releasing) 6 Phones capable of 4G.

I understand that now, their phones don't have videoconferencing, and that their 4G phones will, well they're releasing 6 4G phones, and an iPhone is a possibility. Someone said that Apple isn't going to release a CDMA version of the iPhone, so why not an LTE version that is capable of 4G?

And with 4G, I'm hoping that the next iPhone will be capable of having video chat not just on WiFi, but on 4G service also.
