It really would be such a simple thing to add that I'm not sure what the stubborn resistance is to it.

And from my point of view, a mouse is such an inconvenient thing to carry around and use, considering it needs a large flat surface to use, that I'm amazed at the stubborn attachment people have to it.

Now they have the keyboard they might as well allow a trackpad or mouse.

I mean its such a simple implementation and it gives users the CHOICE to use it or not so wear is the harm??

e.g I can have the iPad on my desk with a trackpad to do work easier in Excel and 5 mins later I can just the iPad to surf the net / read books in a cafe or in bed.

It would make the device so much more usable if a user wished - however maybe they are worried about laptop / notebook sales

Hmm but I imagine most people would leave the keyboard / mouse on the desk for work and grab the iPad when they wanted it for surfing / reading / movies / take home from office etc.

Best of both worlds

I wouldn't carry it around all the time. When I used an iPad as a laptop replacement (you know, like Cook keeps telling us it can be used for) when doing some heavy editing, I'd use it. When sitting on a couch playing a game or watching videos, I wouldn't. It's no different than a keyboard - Apple conceded that the built in keyboard is not sufficient for some by offering external keyboard support. That hasn't ruined the iPad experience. Neither would mouse support.

I don't really understand the argument that a mouse option should be added to the iPad. The whole idea of the iOS UI is that it is geared towards touch input. You throw a mouse into the mix, and suddenly it's like Windows 8 Metro. Why would you just not use a laptop?

Why are people choosing the iPad Pro and Smart Keyboard as a dumbed down productivity device vs. the MacBook?

The prices (for the same amount of storage) differ by only £100, and the iPad Pro with Smart Keyboard weighs 1.06KG whereas the MacBook weighs 0.92KG.

One runs a phone OS, the other a desktop OS which has had 15 years of advancement. iOS feels like they are shackling productivity features onto the side, whereas OS X was designed from the get-go to be a productive operating system.

Am I being backwards thinking here?

If your needs are basic (email, web, media consumption, light editing) an iPad works fine for that. If you occasionally need to do some heavy typing and editing, the ASK and a mouse would handle that just fine with no need to have 2 different devices.

Just a trackpad integrated into the smart keyboard will do.....having both options mouse or trackpad will be the best way to go...people just want a suitable way to point to things,highlight/insert/copy/paste especially in large documents, excel, and word processing ......this is why mouse/trackpad support is one of the most brought up topics in this forum......

I would love to have mouse/trackpad support on it. I agree it's a pain to keep reaching up to the keyboard for things. Someone on this forum recommended the Swiftpoint GT mouse, but I Can't justify a $150 for a small mouse. Even if it works with the Ipad Pro. Hopefully other knockoffs will come in the future or Apple makes the Ipad Support the devices mentioned.
