Just got off the phone with Amazon and was able to talk to a more competent CSR. I told her the problem, and they are shipping me a new 2011 MBP as we speak. She also said this has been happening frequently with their MBPs and that they are currently investigating the issues. They think it is a group in the one of the warehouses who are buying 2010's and swapping them with 2011's then selling them.

Anyways, I should have my new 2011 15" MBP on tuesday or wednesday.

Glad it is resolved, hopefully they double check before it goes out!

^This.

I'm not buying the switcheroo theory either as all of this could be easily traced to the "switcher". There's just too many serial numbers involved and too much of a paper trail available to hide this.

If all was sealed then this is an Apple screw up.

Man. I'd be absolutely livid about this.

yeah, good luck to the OP - this would boil my cookies...

Definitely tell Apple. Personally, I'd write a paper letter and snail mail it certified. Let them know an Authorized Retailer did this. They need to know. Also, they may investigate the serial#s.

If you call, who knows what happens, it may never get documented properly.

But call Amazon to start.

There may be other complaints, and they add up.

Kudos to Amazon for making things right for you without making a fuss about it. I sincerely hope they catch whoever is doing this. Please update us when you get your new computer in and let us know how you like it.

I'm glad Amazon resolved your problem for you as painlessly as they did. I have bought a bunch of stuff from Amazon over the years, including a couple of laptops and have always been well treated. By the way, congratulations on your attention to detail. What you caught and complained about could have gone right over the head of someone less careful.

I will be sure to update. I just hope it doesn't come back the same way. If that is the case I'll just end up returning it for a refund and going to the local Apple store to buy it.

Yeah, I spend enough time on MacRumors to know what specs my "baby" should have. I'm very happy with the way Amazon's CSR handled the situation. The best part of it all is the fact she was in training and really didn't know how to handle the situation, but she did a very good job with it.

The new MBP will be in on 4/26 (Monday). Very very excited!

I'll swear by Amazon any day of the week. I've only had a handful of problems with them over the years. Mostly related to their local shipping company Prestige that they use in the Midwest. I did, however, one order an external hard drive that was unscrewed with an old 120gb in place of the 500gb it actually was supposed to come with.

Called Amazon, was on hold for 30 seconds, and the conversation lasted 2 minutes. Overnighted me a new drive and refunded the original rushed shipping. Long story short, aside from their warehouse internal theft issues, their customer service is second to none and they really take care of their customers.

Love Amazon for the same reason, as long as they are the seller if you run into any issues, they take care of it pretty quickly and easily.

Well, I got the correct 15" on Monday and have been using it non-stop since! But I do have another question to ask. The only part about my 15" I don't like is the low-res screen on it. It doesn't kill me by any means, but I would love to have a Hi-Res on there. Since I ordered off Amazon, could I exchange it at the local Apple store or would I have to go through Amazon again? I don't know if anyone has tried that, but I would like to get some info on if that is possible.

I bought my MBP 2011 from Amazon instead of Mac Mall even though Amazon was $50 more because of Prime 2-day shipping and far better customer service.

I've had some minor issues as well and Amazon took care of everything. They are the best.

You do have to watch their site regularly as their prices fluctuate up and down frequently. The Amazon Prime 2 day shipping is well worth it, especially now with the free video streaming service.
