You don't need the extra power of an MBP when you have more than 50 pages in Safari, but 24GB RAM will help a lot. Regarding 1TB storage, no matter what laptop you have, it's always nice to have more space for your files.
You can close tabs 😃 (and you save 200$) most people who get 24gb of ram might run heavy programs that’s why I was thinking MacBook Pro instead! For 1tb you can always use cloud

Why close tabs if I need them for work?

And with big local storage I can use my files/projects instantly instead of wasting time downloading them back from the cloud, not to mention that sometimes there is no internet access.

Do you need 50 websites at once??? And SSD is another option.

Interesting but why not a MacBook Pro since you seams a heavy tasks user with 24gb of ram and 1tb!
I have a 14 M4 MacbookPro from work. It is noticeably heavier and overall I didn't feel the cost and weight for an equivalent spec was worth the relatively minor performance boost. (and of course it is wider and thicker)

The 24gb is for using a stock market program, thinkorswim, that is RAM intensive. The M3 Air is handling it fine.

If you already have a MacBook Pro for work then you are ok… Personally I just don’t care.

The MacBook Air range is so good since the conversion to Mx architecture. I'd go with 24GB today too, but really there are no bad decisions for most people, they're just exceptionally capable machines for the majority.

Congrats on the new Air!

yes. And why would anyone want to lug around another external SSD on a daily basis when you can keep everything inside your laptop?
That’s what you forgot, your ssd isn’t always connected to your Mac but for example it can be in your bag and you plug in when you need it!

Which is what it means to lug around an external device... and secondly, who said everyone always uses a bag to carry their laptop.

You tend to jump to conclusions based on your usage and needs, even though it is far from the reality of others.

That was one of the hilarious comments to date. LOL

You don't want to pay for additional storage space or more RAM, so you're willing to carry external devices and/or waste time uploading and downloading files to a cloud service (which also costs money).

Um I paid extra for buying a MacBook Pro wish has enough storage for me (I had ssd when I was on AIR) and 16gb of ram is ok for me...

Why is this so funny? Not everybody has the money to pay the Apple tax on storage, and some just doesn’t want to.

I don’t understand why that is funny.

He thinks to bring an ssd in my pocket is funny. But pocket or bag ssd has advantage: you can use it on many devices which you cannot do with the Mac !

Go back and read post #37… and maybe then you’ll understand what was sooo funny.

I have a 2TB Sharge disk that I use as my portable storage with my MBA. Works perfect, with no cables etc to fumble about with.

iPads may be consumption tool or may be pro tool. It depends on who is using for what. For me I went with iPad Pro over MBA. MBA is no good for me. Enjoy your MBA.
Yeah I used to have the opinion that iPads are consumption only as well. I decided to alter my opinion slightly and go with an M4 Mac mini with a Remote Desktop app for my 12.9” M1 iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard. With some adjustments for apps that “do” iPadOS well (using Ulysses for writing, for instance), I have found I don’t even really need to remote in. I can just use my iPad for most things I routinely need.
