All of a sudden benchmark numbers mean something? Lol. Unfortunately benchmarks don't translate to real world usage. Sad times for the Apple apologist. Especially when real world comparisons show otherwise. Here you go, straight from an Apple enthusiast, enjoy. Damn embarrassing for the iPhone, especially at this price point.

Hahaa, you're sounding really desperate. That's all you got from the video? Look how much quicker the fp unlock was than face ID, look how many apps/games opened quicker on the S9. Look at the multitasking. Apps kept refreshing on the X. How often do we unlock our phones a day? When you pull the S9 out of your pocket, it's already unlocked before you get it out. That's the advantage of still having a fp scanner. There's you're real world usage right there. And no, the iPhone wasn't substantially faster at doing something that an overwhelming percentage of the market doesn't do, 4K video encoding. EverythingApplePro himself says, "the iPhone X seems to be just a little bit faster here." Lol, desperate times indeed. So much for the A11.

I do like how you're only pulling out the things in that video Samsung was faster at. Here is another video where the iPhone is faster in the vast majority of tasks:

As for your argument about Face ID - you're comparing basic facial recognition with a much more sophisticated system...

And can you actually post an argument without resorting to insults? It makes you look childish.

The "notch" goes away. OR it gives me two more displays that show content alongside the video. So the iPhone gives choice while Android forces you to have a weird aspect ratio... Awesome.

Looks like the notch cuts into the video to me.
Maybe I'm just crazy but I still see the notch, clear as day.

Amen to Touch ID Under the Screen...I'm sooooooooo glad someone else notices these lil' things that used to be much easier without Face ID...I'd LOVE to have both!

One very unexpected iOS function function I’m utilizing more and more lately is answering phone calls from my iPad. Growing this kind of integration is essential to Apple’s success.

It was cool how I could answer a call from the MacBook!

Good grief, just give it up already. You're embarrassing yourself by linking a no name , Pixelated, 360P video, with comments disabled. You couldn't find a video from well known YouTuber where the iPhone wins? Lol. Like I said, desperate.

Yeah, I see it as well, but from what I hear, you get used to it. So it's all good. Lol. SMH.
I Honestly hope Sammy doesnt adopt that disgusting, Chinese knock off looking, dollar store notch design.

In this video, the one where the guy shows how some apps give an additional option so you can extend the full screen to include the tabs? Here's what you do: play it in full screen without the tabs. Or, use any other video players that options to make the tabs black. Since it's OLED they just turn off. It's only an issue because you are forcing it to play in the tabs... just... don't do that.

For some of us, it’s not a matter that we prefer the Apple ecosystem, it’s a question of how entrenched we are in it and how difficult it is to extricate ourselves from it.

I'm entrenched for a reason The Apple TV is just a Superior product to anything i've seen on the Android side and the apps run better for me, i like also that i can get movies from iTunes cheaper online than i can find the equivalent in the google play store.

1. No.

2. No.

Now. No.

Your logic is flawed. You are looking at total screen resolution. The resolution is so similar it doesn't matter. I don't care who has more pixels. As soon as you have multiple displays you can do more. That's why the X has more screen than the S9. The X doesn't have to hide the status information while apps are full screen. It can do both, so yeah, the X has more usable screen area because it has 3 times as many screens.

WOW. Where I'm my post did I mention screen resolution? When does inches = pixels?

Let me break it down further since you're having issues understanding.

1. You don't agree that the iPhone X screen is 5.8 inches? Did Apple lie? There is a link to help you out.
https://www.apple.com/iphone-x/specs/

2. You don't agree that the S9 has a 5.8 inch screen. Did Samsung lie? There is a link to help you out.
https://www.samsung.com/us/smartpho...37&gclid=CPGF9fq26NkCFZRIgQodh_IDfw&gclsrc=ds

Now that you have PROOF then stop denying that the iPhone X and Samsung S9 screen is not 5.8 inches. How silly is that? Lol I guess you know more than the manufacturers of the phones right?

Moving on, part of the 5.8 inch screen on the iPhone X is taken up by the notch permanently. While the galaxy S9 has the full display to display actual content.

How does the iPhone X has more usable screen when it does not physically have the hardware to do it?

There you go again talking about nothing something you have no clue about. Do you even have an iPhone X? Lol show me a screenshot or pic of an iPhone X playing video and showing the status bar at the same time. Since that is what you just claimed that it does.

You also said the iPhone X has 3 screens? OMG LMAO just when I thought I've seen it all.

So not playing video in the tabs which you call the 2 other screens, essentially wastes all that space because it will be off. But then you say the iPhone X has more usable screen.

You also say the tabs can be on showing the status bar while a full screen video is playing...please show a demonstration.

You don't have an iPhone X. Or else you will know that is not possible. So you're defending a product you don't even own because Apple right?

Hey guys! Is anyone going to switch from iPhone X to Galaxy S9? Want to know which one is better, iPhone X or S9? I still confused, should I switch to Galaxy S9 or not. Does anyone have an idea?

Apple didn't lie, nor samsung, because they both threw * on those numbers as per the links you gave. Apple claims their screen is 5.85" but has less usable are leading to a advertised 5.8. Samsung says a 5.8" display but then clarifies it is really 5.7". It's marketing, and while you could argue that they both lied I think most rational people would say they are selecting their measurements to be generous to themselves. So... your own links... proof... you are wrong... Ekk. Sorry.

As I mentioned before I don't see it as a notch, I see it as two extra tabs. This means I recognize only 5.5" of screen, which while it is 1.5" bigger than I would like, it is the best phone to small display I can get. The tabs offer space for additional content on my prefered smaller display.

Yes I have an iPhone X, it replaced the terrible Galaxy S7 device that Samsung gave me for free. That doesn't matter, because I live someplace that has access to stores like Target and Best Buy. Either of which should be good enough for you to see what I have been saying. So again, more of that "proof stuff" you really like.

Not using the tabs doesn't waste space because I don't consider that space part of the main screen. If an app uses the tabs - it does so by adding to, not taking away from, the main display. Most developers likely assume that users don't want to use the tabs for additional content when watching video full screen, so that's why we haven't seen a lot of apps take advantage of it. Instead they allow for full screen or extended display viewing. A lot of apps, like the youtube app, allow you to use the tabs for quick rewind / jump back commands so you can replay something without risking fingerprints on the main part of the screen. When I use the X for anything besides video almost every app uses the tabs.

That said - you need to get over the fact that some people like the phone. I get that you don't like it, and I am hopeful that you have little sway on how it is designed. Some of us like the way the tabs add to the main screen.

I don't care what phone you like. But you continually spread misleading information with no facts or proof. The whole argument started because you said the iPhone X has more usable screen than the Samsung S9 which I have proved is not true. however, you continue to say your statement is true. You want more proof? (something which you continuously fail to provide). Here you go:

iPhone X total screen area when accounting for the notch = 12.51 squared inches
https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/70wpmt/calculating_the_actual_area_of_the_iphone_x/

Samsung S9 total screen area = 13.05 inches (phone in article used was an S8. The S8 has an identical screen size to the S9)
https://www.tomsguide.com/us/galaxy-s8-screen-size-compared,news-24927.html.

Now that you've gotten PROOF, you're still going to find an excuse. Go ahead, I am looking forward to it.

So you don't consider the tabs part of the main screen but you consider android status bar part of the main screen and claim that is why it is wasting space. Well I don't consider the status bar part of the main screen. Works both ways .

"the tabs allow for quick rewind / jump back....without risking fingerprints..." LOL. So wait let me get this straight, don't you have to touch the main screen to navigate to the youtube video in the first place? Hence fingerprints?

Again, please explain how the iPhone X has more usable space like you claimed a few post back.

Sigh.

You keep using this word "proof" but I don't think it means what you think it means.

Honestly, it's really simple, but you seem really angry about the topic and that might be making it hard for you to appreciate any thoughts that aren't negative. Or maybe you just like to argue. Whatever. I'll try one last time, and you can read when you have cooled off. Don't feel like you need to repeat yourself. I'll just assume you overlooked the evidence and clearly labeled opinions while you rant about "proof" again.

The tabs allow content to be displayed without changing the aspect ratio where primary content will be displayed. It doesn't have to hide the status information or change the aspect ratio of the content. It can show both in their native ratio. Three places to show content is greater than one place. That's an opinion based on experience with multi-display devices and using Samsung and Apple devices. It's really that simple. That's how it ends up with more usable screen area. Not because the screen is bigger. If you were paying attention I actually think the iPhone X has less primary screen size than Apple claims. Honestly, it wouldn't matter if the Samsung screen was 40". The tabs allow separation and division of content that can be displayed while something else is using the primary display area.

The advantage comes from the existence of the tabs. Since gestures to each tab cause different outcomes it simplifies having two gestures from the same side of the display. If there were no tabs, such as in the iPhone 8, it would have the same issues as the S9. Instead Apple designed a new way to show content. I'm sure Apple tried to avoid adding them, but they found themselves with tabs and they made it work better than without them. How do we know this is better? Oh, I don't know, because one of Android P's new features is support for tabs? (I would call this "proof" but I don't think anyone understands what that word means to you.)

As far as fingerprints go, I can clean the display and then start watching. If I need to rewind I don't add new fingerprints.

Android Auto is better than CarPlay. Especially now that it has Waze.

Waze is pretty awesome for nav. I think that's why Google couldn't bring themselves to rip it apart and stuff its carcass back into Google Maps.

Waze is great. Speed camera and police / accident alerts especially make it worth it right there. Occasional quirks where a route I've taken by mistake ended up becoming a few minutes quicker on the app than the route recommended originally by waze though. I use it every day :D

The elephant in the room is OLED PWM screen flicker on the X at a frequency that induces eye strain, whereas the Samsung phones don't have this problem. I can't even look at an X screen for more than a couple minutes. Thank goodness they're using LCD screens on the 8 (no flicker).

Ummm... Perhaps Im misinformed, but doesn't the X use the Hybrid method of screen brightness control, where above about 35% brightness the Iphone X uses flicker-free current variance to control brightness, but below 35% it uses PWM to control brightness to offset the the manufacturing tolerance differences of the varying pixels.

The Galaxy Line (s8, s8+, and I believe the new s9) use PWM all the time. So if PWM is a problem, then the galaxy series would be worse.

Genuine iPhone enthusiast here. I have to say, the S9 is a nice looking device. Ultimately its Android that doesn’t interest me. Hardware between smart phone manufacturers has high standards, but iOS and its security has me loyal.
The security issues with Android have always, as far as I can tell, been related to Google's app store - people installing Trojans. But it does seem like Google has gotten a bit better about screening apps over the years. Also, Google's accidental approval of malicious apps is one of the reasons why some Android derivatives like LineageOS (fork of CyanogenMod) and Replicant (fork of LineageOS without binary-only drivers) come with F-Droid instead of Google's app store.

Maybe that’s why I get headaches from Samsung oled.
