 This makes no sense. Just because you don't use all of the real estate of a single 27" does not mean that other people don't find that setup useful.

And 2 x 27" displays is more functional than 15" + 27"...

Your right, spending $999 to having mail open on a full 27" monitor, while not using the 15" built in screen is truly more useful and functional.

Right, and he uses that second screen *just* for mail.

He has a nice setup and can afford it, so what?

Dual screen setups are extremely useful, as i've just found out.

Why is this suddenly new news? I mean sure its cool but I see people running dual displays off MacBooks all the time....I'm planning on getting a USB graphics card and running dual cheapo 1600x900 or even 1920x1200 displays off it PLUS using my MacBook's screen. Still cool but I can't see the justification in spending that much cash...

Daisy-chaining the TB displays is definitely something new. It makes your desk setup clean and neat without all the excessive cables. The point here is the TB connection I guess, not so much the dual $999 monitors.

You don't turn it off even when you go mobile? I'd turn it off when lugging it around.

I haven't powered down my MBP since I bought it at the start of the year either, other than to resolve crashes and do updates. It's so much more convenient just to have it ready to go when I open the lid.

With my last MBP I sometimes caused a safe sleep when I moved it too roughly and too quickly into my rucksack after closing the lid, mind you.

P.S. Most ironic ad-placement prize contender?

Really like your desk! May I ask where did you get it from?

Oh, yea I couldn't find a simple desk that I liked anywhere online so I just went to Ikea and bought a 73" wooden countertop and plopped it down on some white sawhorse legs. Nothing fancy but I love it.

Oops, can't edit my post any more but this is the photo I meant to include for the prize-for-most-ironic-ad-placement-prize:
