Yeah for past models it's true and could be true about the new 15" macbook pro 2016 i don't know. But the 13" doesn't have a dedicated graphics card and can drive that many pixels without one.

http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/three-generations-intel-hd-graphics-tested/
this article talks about the desktop 530 and mobile 540 compared to past versions of intel hd graphics but doesn't compare to iris pro specifically.

arstechnica has a review of the 2016 13" macbook pro without touch bar and shows that the hd 540 beats the iris pro of the 2015 15" on their gfxbench and cinebench tests you can look at that although it's not the 530. These tests are also not the be all end all like flops performance.

you won't find too many direct comparisons as there are other factors at play.
Dude Iris 540 and 550 is twice as fast as HD 530. End of story. Look up the numbers. The one I am talking about is HD 530 which is inside 2016 15"

540 and 550 will never lag as I confirmed while playing with 13" display models at Apple Store

I tried the same thing on my HD4000 and even when scrolling like crazy, I can't bring the GPU usage to 5%!!!

Something else is wrong. Try scrolling another folder instead.

By the way, did you check your GPU usage while doing this? I'm sure it's near zero.

Stop TROLLING!
My 2012 rMBP with the miserable HD4000 iGPU doesn't stutter at all in any of the scenarios you mentioned.
And if you don't like the new MBP just return it then. What is bashing it over and over again gonna get you? Do you expect Tim Cook to show up in your house and apologize and reinvent the whole MBP line? Return it while you can and stop trolling on the forum.

I'd say it's valuable information. My 2016 rMBP order wont be here until end of Dec giving me plenty of time to test in Apple Store, I must say if I see a single frame of lag I'll be cancelling my order. I'm expecting 100% buttery smooth, my existing rMBP has never lagged on me once, I'm not paying more to put up with lag.

Just got back from the apple store, zero lag on the 15 inch. The one i played around on was 2.6 ghz and 450 gpu. Another thing i noticed was that the space grey doesnt look as nice as i thought, i actually prefer silver now. I kind of want to change my order but im scared they'll delay my delivery even more

If you are not going to be happy with your order just cancel it, sure you'll be hit with a delay but at least you will end up with something you want. It is a lot of money to put up with something just because you wont It sooner.

I have re-ordered 3 times now as I keep changing my mind on the build.. It as pushed my order from 2-3 weeks to 5-6 weeks.. it could get it as late as January.

No stutter or lag here whatsoever under the same conditions shown in the video. 15" base model and compared it to a 13" base model as well.

Honestly im sticking with the space grey because i dont want to wait any longer. Space Grey is still pretty nice, but whats more important is the mbp itself. I'd be fine with it even if it was purple or something, im running on a mid 2010 13 inch atm. Also, if im really unhappy i could just return it

bro you didn't read ****, the intel iris pro has MORE FLOPS performance than the hd540 AND THE HD540 beats it in all tests. Flops doesn't mean anything.

what the heck does twice as fast mean?

The RADEON is supposed to be used for all demanding tasks, so everything else: opening folders, pdfs, web browsing, scrolling, etc. THE HD530 should have no problem with.

the HP Zbook 15" with a hd530 drives its own damn internal display at 4k resolution. It's probably a really sh*** computer but all your points are invalid.

Twice as fast means this:

HD 530 : 441.6 GFLOPS
Iris 540: 806.4 GFLOPS
Iris 550: 844.8 GFLOPS

Iris Pro 5200: 832 GFLOPS.

2016 15" only comes with HD 530 which is twice as slow as Iris Pro and twice as slow as 540 and 550. Make sense?

2015 15" comes with Iris Pro 5200, which by the numbers is also twice as fast as HD 530.

I am not sure how good you are at math. But 800/400 =2. Get it now?

In other words 2016 15" DOES NOT COME with Iris Pro. It only comes with HD 530 which is twice as slow. Is there any other way I can explain this?

Dudes, this test doesn't even solicitude the GPU/CPU. We are in 2016, not in the eighties!!!!

like i said the 540 should be slower than iris pro by your definition.

The hp zbook and other windows laptops use the hd530 to drive their 4k internal displays. Those laptops use it for more than basic tasks. It should have no problem on the mbp.

I never said that Iris Pro is slower than 540. I said that 540 is twice as fast as HD 530 (Which is not Iris Pro)

What are you using to measure GPU usage?

you said FLOPS = better which i showed is not true at all.
What? You didn't show anything. Of course higher FLOPS means better performance.

If Flops is not a good measurement then why did Apple use FLOPS to compare Radeon 460 Performance to Radeon 370X to claim that it's 130% better ?
Don't you think that the best marketing machine in the world would have chosen the best way to tout their new GPUs if Flops wasn't the best measurement?

If for instance editing a large image in photoshop was more than 150% better then I am sure they would have used that instead and would have claimed that it's 150% better instead of using Flops.

Simple logic

I used OpenGL Driver Monitor (a Xcode development tool).

flops is more important for graphic intensive work, hence why they only showed it for the dgpu

for basic UI and other aspects its not that big of a deal

I just ran this test as well, this has to be software related (i.e. its not optimized). If you force the dGPU on by turning off "graphic switching", the result is the same.

macOS Sierra is by far less optimized compared to El Capitan. I notice the same lag on my late 2015 iMac 5K. This lag didn't exist in El Capitan.

15" 2.7/455

Im guessing it has to something with the touchbar software not being optimized correctly. I've seen a few people here talking about it

If you can enable the dedicated graphics card on that thing, then do the same test to see if the stuttering goes away, I'd like to see it.

This also something I would suspect.

dark_mark, you don't have another input device to use?

The hd530 can natively drive 3 4K displays at 60 vs last years one 4K at 60. It also has other improvements in eram 3D graphics etc. you can find this via internet I don't think it should have a problem driving its 2800 x 1800 internal display at whatever resolution you set it to.

Show me evidence of this. Their is no way a 530 is driving THREE 4k displays at 60hz

Why don't you try scrolling in the App Store? Or in Mail?
I tried scrolling in iTunes, it's not as smooth as my 2015. I also tried scrolling through my messages in Microsoft Outlook for mac and it's a complete stuttery mess there. I imagine this is very important since most business world use Outlook for mac. Whereas 2015 is buttery smooth in Outlook

I didn't try Apple Mail yet.

Oh and scrolling in google photos in safari or chrome is a total lag fest.

was this stuttering seen on day one of getting the machine? maybe Spotlight and such was still making it's way through everything and slowing things down.

yes, the integrated on the 15s is not great. that is the compromise for the faster 4 core CPUs. you can thank Intel for that with their fractured lineup. is there no longer a setting in OS X to force the dGPU? I would have that on, since you paid for it and all.
