You've obviously not seen any of the other fakes that have been done.

I've seen plenty and they're almost all ****** photoshop jobs that could be done in 15 minutes. Nobody is going to waste hours building a perfect looking model of the thing.

Half of the opinions on this thread are ill informed of the rumored Mac mini specifications floating about for months, unaware of past fakes, or just ridiculously emphatic.

With the right equipment someone could easily build a very clever little case like this in a couple hours. You need some plastic and plastic cutting tools, aluminum and a shaper, superglue, some decals you can make on a printer... and time. It'll only cost you about $10 if you are thrifty and have some spare computer parts lying around.

Probability of someone spending time to do such a thing--rare.
Probability of at least one person doing something like this--likely.
Probability of someone doing something like this and making it look this good--extremely rare.

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this, but isn't it possible that the design is similar because Apple is going to update silently (a la the whiteBook a few weeks ago?), and so there wouldn't necessarily be a new casing?

It's not what I'd like to see (I love the black and aluminium look), but I also think that they may want to keep some similarity between the Mac hardware and things like Airport Extreme and the Time Capsule...

I think this is very plausible. Especially since the internals of the Mini have been based on the MacBook in the past.

What could be coming is a completely new low-end model based on the Ion platform for around $499 in a new, thin case (like an AirPort Extreme?), while the Mini gets modernized with mini-DisplayPort, Core 2 Duo and nVidia graphics, keeping the same casing it's using now for $699?

How about this?

That said, I'd prefer an "ugly" mini with firewire (or, even better, with an additional e-sata) port, than a shiny new one without it.

I love it. Hummingbird battery, heck, that's like my PC laptop's old NiMH battery. ;)

Compaq Presario laptop, 1998 era, when bought brand new, the battery gave you 50 minutes before dying. Within a year, totally dead.

real or not ... fake or not ... march is just 7 days away, there gotta be a update to macmini, imac (mac pro mostly on end of the march based Xeon EP Processor availability)

next tuesday or the following tuesday -> new mac mini or EOL for mac mini

hang on there guys just a week away ;)

The original poster has now offered up a video of the purported next-generation Mac mini.

Do you guys really think Apple will release a machine that has dedicated GPU and FireWire? This would mean a low end machine could run pro apps with video editing capabilities wheras the MacBook could not, this the lack if FireWire fir video cameras, unless if course Apple somehow defeats this by hardcoding the pro apps to not run.

Apple giving users great wrking solutions at a reasonable price? I just don't see that happening although it's a stepbin the right direction. Again I just don't see this happening unless Jobs us no longer at the helm.

"Virtually unbreakable unless dropped or hit."

love it too :)

Perhaps someone would like to describe the video process that makes this a FAKE? It looks very real to me and has Mini-DP and five USB is NOT unreasonable.

Okay, but it could easily just be a shell, as has been said dozens of times.

And since the person with the device won't plug it in, turn it on, and show us the hardware, it's safe to assume that it's a prank.

I hope it is not real because the current design is boring and I want something new
Boring??, I don't understand, it's a computer!!, nothing wrong with it imo, small footprint and has enough ports (though FW800 & 5 USB would be great)

As long as it works running OS X what's the problem ?, too many folks are obsessed with how things 'look', ........function over form!.

I even made a video of me playing with my own (current model) mac Mini on a wooden table!

Enjoy!

That's an obvious fake. A real mac owner wouldn't have fingernails that short.

Besides, this "Mini" is shown with 4 USB ports while current iMacs only have 3! It's a well-done fake, but still a fake. Your biggest mistake was putting a single USB logo over the ports instead of a separate logo over each one.

;)

Very fake..

Okay so if it is the same person that uploaded both the photo and the video.. then they don't match.

Look at the top of the case its got a new rounded off look in the video but in the photo it's the old style. I have reason to believe our friend has access to CNC and a knockoff macmini to work with.

Check the picture, hopefully your wern't being serious.
As you can see that is one USB symbol!
also to those who keep saying its a fake due to the alignment of the display ports, if you look at the imac you will see that the mini DVI is actually centred and not on the bottom like you say.

Okay guys. Try to keep up with me. When the first few fens if the MacBook came out, barefeats reported you could run pro apps on it. Still games were impossible but pro apps were not. So what did apple do? They released a new GMA that affected no one except users trying to run pro apps. This is why when the latest macbook came out with a defecated GPU FireWire was removed as now you can run pro apps but forget about using a firewire cam corder.

Then I thought, could apple really be releasing the mini with firewire and dedcated GPU? If they did I would be shocked unless their reasoning is home users using pro apps are different from mobile pro users. Then I realized about 29 minutes ago, with apple there is always a snafu when it comes to low end and trying to run pro apps and realize Apple will probably release the mini with a super slow atom processor making rendering impossible. This will be the snafu if Apple dies indeed release firewire and dedicated GPU. Hope I'm wrong as the pro market share is less than 1% and Apple shouldn't care anymore. All there sales cone from the consumer and iPhones. Which they may lose marketshare if the don't impliment copy paste flash and thethering as newer smart phones will offer.

Let's hot Apple rises to the challenge and gives the user hardware that is cutting edge without forcing you to be upsold to higher end devices.

 oh please , a cnc machine to do a pic/video on a rumour site. Now I know there are lot of dedicated rumourists (is that a word?) but really now, a cnc machine  is going a little bit too far.

..also want to add its not like apple to bevel it's new designs.. thats why I think this is fake.

I've seen quite a few shops' in my day. This is obviously fake.
