I think it is a mod. It doesn't make any sense otherwise.

This is what you will see from Apple in the new Mini:

-Aluminum & black
-Unibody
-Mini Display Port (sorry, I don't think they will add dual display ports)
-MagSafe power adapter to work with LED Cinema Displays
-Super Drive can be replaced with second hard drive
-nVidia graphics and chipset

Here is my quick mockup of what it will look like. We will see soon, but I'm confident my predictions in specs and mockup will be very close

Now that is what we're talking about! If you said that IS the new Mac mini, I would believe you more than the guy who posted the video and picture.

1. 5 USB ports? USB chipsets have 4 USB output. To have 5, you will have to use an internal hub, so one port split into two. Do you really think Apple would add an internal hub for ONE extra port on an entry level Mini? If you want to add an internal hub anyway, as well make it seven.

You should keep in mind that there are also internal devices in the machine that run on USB. Bluetooth, IR and maybe even more devices are connected to the USB port. Using a 4 port chip would leave only one or two external USB ports, so Apple might need to use an extra chip.

Also, a lot of chips that are not dedicated USB chips provide a small number of USB ports, e.g. a chip that provides FW usually also has a small number of USB ports.

I don't see the 5 USB ports as a sign it's fake.

well, it looks like old parts to me...but imagine if they can use old parts and drop a low end mini to 399USD can you say stock blast? Given the world economy going into the toilet, a true Mac for 399 would be amazing.....

i think its a fairly well made mock....no matter how much begging we do Apple would never give us thatmany USB ports :D

Wtf

Hahahah No?

This piece of **** looks like the same old model with silver trim. Apple would never update a product and make such minor exterior changes. I say its fake. The dude who made the video / posted the picture must be good at paining.

Many reasons to believe it is fake

Total rubbish. Pretty much every chipset on the market today supports 10 or 12 USB ports. THe 9400M supports 12.

4 ports? That takes me back to 1999.

Your other arguments have been discussed to death already, and there's no reason why Apple wouldn't have 2 video outs or Firewire 800.

You are right....by looking in the System Profiler, it seems all the external USB ports are ALREADY on a hub....so to make 5 ports, it will need 2 hubs.

The point is, if you want to add a hub, as well take advantage of it and get SEVEN (or SIX).

In any case, we will see if it is fake in a few months, won't we?

No reason?

How about don't kill the Mac Pro sales?

Technically, it is possible to squeeze everything into a Mini package and sell for $500, but would you do that if you run a company?

hahahhahahahahhahahahhahahahhahahahhahahahahah

Do you seriously think people who were looking at a mac pro would get a mini just because of its extra ports?

Just because its a real object does not make it a real computer...
You can buy counterfeit macs in china relativity cheaply. they actually are decent products hardware wise however OS 10 does not really run to well on them. However if your looking to run windows or linux your golden.

My best guess is that it is fake considering he got it in a subway.. yea my mom also bought her Gucci purse and channel glasses in a subway...

I'm sure that Apple would rather sell 5000 Mac Pros instead of 500,000 Mac Minis.

It's not like the 9400M's graphics are amazing, or that the Mac Mini is expandable like a Mac Pro, etc.

Totally different products. I can't see how a dual-core Mac Mini with low-end graphics, a small amount of memory, a single slow 2.5" hard drive, etc, can compete professionally with the Mac Pro. It's not even a big upgrade over the previous Mac Mini that came out so long ago, indeed in many ways it is a retrograde step if you take standard improvements in computing into account. If it wasn't a threat to the Mac Pro in 2006 or 2007, it's not going to be a threat in 2009 with minor specification bumps.

Why would that be? I don't believe that Apple makes 100 times more profit on a Mac Pro. Besides that, generally it's die hard Apple fans that buy Mac Pro's, they're already in Apple's camp. People that buy a Mac Mini's are generally getting their first introduction to Apple computers, and might upgrade to an iMac or better if they like their Mini.

Looks like a good mod to me. So props to him for selling that. But I'm with the people on the black top. For a company who prides itself on the design of their products, not having black on the computer wouldn't fit well with the rest of their line. Nor do I see it looking good with those new displays, but either way I don't think that the white is ugly. I actually like it, but I think the black would be more fitting to the mac line.

It's not a fake!

It's the new Psystar Mini secretly being developed at Microsoft under strict supervision of Steve Ballmer. Now he's really screwed for letting the R and D techs work at home.

Um, I meant the opposite, as should be quite clear. Maybe I used sarcasm.

I hope it is real just to contradict the overzealous posters who know for a fact that is fake. You know who you are. You may be right about it being fake, but you could not be more annoying if you tried.
